  1. I really like the savage gear in the small and medium sized glide baits. Ive also really like the shine glide in the 5.25" in bluegill color. Honestly 5-7 inch glide baits are not to big, i fish in CT and MA and there will be days when perch and bluegill follow it. When I use the bigger 6.5" wide glide the bigger fish in the area come and take a look. At 12-16$ these baits are easy to use in the entry level glide bait sector. River 2 sea works great too, both are fun to fish. I fish in the land of the dinks and im telling you its not too big of a lure and you can get away without getting a swimbait specific rod.
  2. Going to Buffalo for a week to visit family. Obviously bringing poles. Any one know where I can fish from the bank? Im having trouble with the search feature. My gf and sister will probably come some times idk if that matters. Looking for smallmouth anywhere in the niagra region with the canadian side included. Any advice would be greatly appriciated. If you dont want to blow up your secret spot u completely understand il go to the river in NT. Also thinking about a small guide service. I will edit this after I go. Strictly catch and release. GO BILLS!!!
  3. lc qccc xkietech male perch color has been killing it for me this year. We dont have shad in CT or MA so perch and bluegill is the primary forage. I am always looking for perch pattern baits. One thing about kwitech male perch color. It has in my opinion a very fake green is too fake looking. Almost like a lime green when I would have prefered a more natural green like a watermelon or a timber green. I dont know that picture dooesnt look like reel life. The orange flake is nice though. Live target made a perch but i havent caught anything on it yet. I think westin made percy the perch or some sort of bootail soft bait. Ive never tried the brand has anyone tried their lures? they look really great and i think have potential Ive also tried sebile magic swimmer soft in perch color. they have natural, orange and red perch colors but the action of the lure is erratic and inconsistant although its caught me some nice fish its kind of a fluke/swimbait bybrid. Im always looking for the next perch lure so this thread is awesome!!!
  4. perfectly straight on a twistlock gama or owner weighted hook ill use a 4/0 for 3.8" and a 5/0 for 4.3" size. I used to twist the lure all the down so the nose was on the eye and then i would pull the tail tight and then drive the hook threw verticle. I feel that the lure must lay with slackness to it. Not so its bent in a u shape but not pulled taut either. If the area where the hook goes threw has tension on the plastic its more likely to tear. Ive caught pike and bass on the same lure, when it used to rip with one or two fish. For me, I get skunked sometimes and the kietech will always get bit. The majority of this year ive been trying new techniques like swimbaits, glidebaits and bigger profiles but i always know if i pick up that kietech it will get bit. Its just no longer the most fun way to catch em. Good luck to you all this season
  5. I live in Springfield but fish in Lee, MA at my girls lakehouse. That big fish I didn't even weigh, look how skinny it is. She was 21 inches and hopefully she didn't have a clogged stomach. At this time she should be spawned our. : ( Hey grumpy if you ever want to try and meet up to fish let me know, just don't phart I'm the boat : )
  6. Caught the bigger one on a top water popper in Sturbridge, MA last week. I think it was the river2sea bubble popper. Caught about 12 today on the same keitech swing impact fat in male perch color. Idk why people complain about durablility they last for me if you right them right. Both fish caught at dusk. We have had enough rain and cold temperatures recently. Good luck to everyone this season!!!!
  7. Only craw type bait that I've caught fish on in CT. Granted I've only started craw fishing last year. I love it in Alabama craw or blackblue with a simple Texas rig. Throw it into trees and structure. It's not durable but I don't care if I catch em. Got some magnum size and can't wait to try them this year.
  8. I love xrap and flat rap in CT and MA until may when the weeds come. Three Lil jerk and a pause. Jerks can be smaller than you think and pause can be longer than you would think. I've also caught bass and perch on just a steady slow retrieve. 08 size... perch, hot steal, orange any color really. Great lure for spring, you can really rip it or work it super slow. Play around with it and get a feel.
  9. Lol ya thats technically bluegill. Is that more of a translucent bait? I just find it funny almost every brand has 8 silver colors and few trout colors and no perch. The S waver has a perch but its bright gold and only comes in the big size. Good luck this year fellas!!!!! At least for me i think this is the year of the glide baits... Now if i can only figure out how to catch em on jigs... my orginial goal this year.
  10. d**n what are you working in collusion with the bait monkey?? Now not only do i need to get a bone color shine glide but now i need it in both colors lol. Why wont they come up with more destinquishing names than wide glide and shine glide... common savage gear!! Also wheres my perch color at?!?!?!
  11. i just got a babybass color coming to me from the electronic bay. I was just about to order the bone one too. I fish largemouth and pike just as often as smallmouth if not more. I was wondering about the shine glide in your hand. I thought since im on CT/MA border alot of the fish i catch, lets face it will be smaller than most of you guys. With the "taller" lure in your hand wont the hook up ratio suffer since a bass cant get it in its mouth as easy as a smaller/thinner profile of an S-waver or savage. once again thankyou for your help
  12. I like the chartruse since you can see it so far away. Its great to learn all the different retrieves and twitches. I seen the football do a side swipe and yake it under. When you see the chartruse dissapear it game on. I def want a natural color for when im fishing largemouth in gin clear water. anyone prefer the s waver instead of the savage gear?
  13. I caught a nice one off a glide bait. i havent caught anything off hudds (havent thrown them enough) but I think a smallie would take a perch color hudd. i have more fun changing a retrieve of a glide bait too. NOTE: ive only caught 2 fish off a glide bait and in no way am i saying i know anything works "well"
  14. Caught in Lee, MA on a submerged log. Lure was a 5.5" savage gear wide glide in chartruse flash color. This is my first year using glide baits and baitcasters and i am hooked. Will definately be getting a more natural color and other glide baits. Fish was 20.5 inches and 4.5-5 lbs
  15. i just got one carbon fire reel and 50% off carbon fire rod. I got the heavy rod for jigs and like both. happy i foubd the sale and gave lews a try finally i will def be buying more Lew's
  16. @Janderson45 i have to go to my girlfriends lakehouse in Lee, MA and help with puttin the boats in on sunday but good luck. I caught a smallmouth in CT today so the fish are active. I definiatly need to go to quabbin soon i just love fishing banks, docks, and structure in small bodies of water. I also need to invest in electronic sonar. Any one know of any lower end sonar fish finders or informative threads to help me learn how to fish deep.
  17. In my second year the keitechs are very durable for me. You need to rig it straight on twistlock hook. Key is to only make one hook hole in its back and have it lay flush with the bait. Off just a little and it will still swim fine and swim true but i feel the hook tears into the soft plastic more. I will try bass assasin since I like their flukes but I dont care too much about the keitechs durability. It will catch everything that swims in CT and MA where I fish.
  18. when you say texas rigged worm do you mean stick bait or curly tail?
  19. ya im used to small tidal creeks and close quarters combat in ponds from a canoe. I only fish shallow and i dont know anyone local as i recently moved here from central CT. I think im going to rent a boat next weekend. thaanks for the response, the search tool is hard but i googled it and found a lot of older topics from this forum.
  20. Any one fish the quabbin? I never have and I have been interested in renting the boats they have there. I would be targeting smallmouth. I just moved to speingfield, MA so it would be the southern side. Thanks for any help and good luck this season i currently fish alot in Lee, Ma at Goose pond. if anyone else is around there and looking for a fishing buddy my gfs parents have a nice lakehouse.
  21. Haven't used a pit boss enough but never caught a fish off it and I don't like how sometimes the tails stick together. I catch bass and pike in CT off the rage structure bug and have not had any same success with and NY times times type of craw or creature. Bama craw or black blue structure bug Texas rig will work anywhere I tried.
  22. I'm from CT and I've never caught a fish on the rage craw but I LOVE the structure bug. I Texas rig it with a bobber stopper. Colors I like alabama craw or black and blue. It does tear easy but the movement is insane. I just bought a white color pack today.
  23. Stanley Ribbit on a twist lock hook.
  24. Big bites squirrel tail float but the connection to the wider worm part where the hook goes to the floating tail is very thin and seems like it tears easy. Zman won't tear, if you know how to store and rig them they work great. Grande Bass air tail waggler also works great and can be stored with other plastics. They have a ribbed worm, fluke and regular worm that float well with the airtail.
  25. Wait how does a glide bait have grub tails or..... buzz bait tails?
