  1. Thank you guys for the input. I'll take it out tomorrow and if it still feels off I'll definitely have to consider getting it replaced.
  2. I purchased a CI4+ in the 1000 size recently, and I took it out for the first time today. I had high expectations, as one may for a 240 dollar reel. But a few casts in I noticed that there seemed to be more resistance than I was expecting. I know most people will say its just because it's because its a 1000 size reel, but I've used a 1000 size sedona for probably 5 year with much heavier and more demanding baits with no similar problems, and thats a 70 dollar reel. Do you guys think this is normal, or something I should contact the store about? Do I maybe just need to break it in a bit to smooth it out?I don't want to continue using this if it isn't a normal thing, given that its a tad expensive. If anyone has had similar problems, tell me what you did. Any ideas or advice is welcome. Thanks!
  3. Thats crazy... ever tried fishing bluegill swimbaits?
  4. The lake was never actually formally restocked. I say formally because it appears as if someone as released fish into it already, for better or worse. Thank you for the advice on structure and cover, I'll definitely keep that in mind.
  5. It's actually not silted in... anymore. Hurricane Sandy broke the dam back in 2012, and that seems to have ripped all of the silt out of it, so its mostly sand now.
  6. So cover off of points... got it. As for bottom composition, do you think pea gravel would work well?
  7. Not too many people fish the pond, but I'll keep that in mind. Any idea what spots would be good?
  8. I figured it out using microsoft paint. Here's the picture of it high and dry. And this is it full of water... it kept telling me it was too big but it was 86 kb.
  9. I should have specified; its a small private lake. I should probably double check with the homeowners association though, come to think of it. Also, I didn't realize structure and cover were different, thanks for pointing that out. I'm trying to upload the photos, but I have to compress them first.
  10. Hey guys, my family owns a cottage on a small lake. The dam on the lake broke during hurricane sandy, but now that it is filled in again with a new dam, I'd like to put some cover in to help promote fish growth and spawning success and so on... you get it. I know that the time to do it would have been when it was high and dry, but I couldn't find a time to do it. I'm Thinking of making some concrete and PVC "xmas trees" and sinking them in various places, but I'd like some input as to where those places should be. Also, I've thought about putting down some sort of pea gravel in places... would this make a good spawning spot? Any suggestions are welcome, Thanks! I've included two pictures below.. one of the lake with no water and one with it full, although the name is blanked out... for obvious reasons
  11. Yeah I think that makes sense. I already have a rod that would probably work well for walking bait. I'm guessing mono would be best for jerkbaits and cranks in shallow water?
  12. I'm looking for a new "multipurpose" rod/combo that could be used for walking baits, jerkbaits, or small crankbaits; mostly medium sized trebled baits under 1 1/2 oz. Also, do you think a curado 70 would work for these kinds of applications? It would be best if any rod suggestions were under or near 200.
  13. Everything I see about winter fishing is all for lakes... what about winter fishing a small, muddy pond in Virginia? Also, I've never had much luck with anything in the winter, so any tips are welcome.
  14. Thanks! Thats good to knkw
  15. Hate to change the subject, but although I've done a good bit of fishing over the past few years, I'm pretty new to the whole prespawn, spawn, and post spawn thing. I was just wondering if you guys would have any advice for fishing on small ponds with mostly soft bottoms? Most of what I find is for reservoirs with gravel slopes and bottoms.
