  1. I went from Presidents to all Supremes for one reason, the increased line pick up (the Supreme has over 31 inches per turn vs. the Presdents ~25 inches per turn). I wanted the faster reel was to keep up with a charging SM coming up from 30' of water.
  2. I had the GLX MBR 782 and ended up selling it. If you plan on throwing only say 1/4 oz spinnerbaits, it will work, but even then it lacks that juice to rip that spinnerbait through lillypads or weeds (which is where I like to throw my spinnerbaits). The GLX MBR 783 has a nice tip to really toss a wide range of weighted spinnerbaits into tight spots and has that extra backbone to rip the spinnerbait through cover along with ripping that fish out you just triggered into striking your lure just after ripping it clear of weeds.
  3. This is an easy one. The GLX MBR 783 is the best spinnerbait rod I have used. I've tried the SBR 812, SBR 813, IMX MBR 783, GLX BCR 803, and the NRX MBR 843. The SBR were good, but I throw spinnerbaits that go from 1/4 oz up to 3/4 oz. and I didn't like having to carry two rods to cover all my spinnerbait needs. Also, the IMX MBR 783 had a slightly different action than the GLX MBR 783, which is why I didn't like the IMX, but loved the GLX. That subtle different action between the two made all the difference when it came to fishing spinnerbaits.
  4. I hooked a rope once that was tied around the neck of a dead foal. Talk about foul smelling.
  5. This is dead on. Chinook, the best, Walleye, the worst.
  6. NICE!! Congratulations on the PB musky. It seems like it came at a good time to help lift up your spirits after being out of commission for a while.
  7. Haha...I wish 50 inchers were common for me. However, when I fish for bass, it is almost always Smallmouth, so I have a better chance of catching 1000 50 inch Musky vs. 1 DD Smallmouth. Nice Fish, by the way! I would be curious to hear the measurement on that one. I would guess that's a nice mid-40's fish, which is a great catch. As far as 50 inchers being rare, finding a honey hole that puts out fish like it has been for you is far rarer than catching a 50 inch musky. That's the true great accomplishment here.
  8. Nice Fish! Locating a Honey Hole like that is a great find. As far as having a hard time to go back to bass, I can understand that. However, after several days/weeks of not getting any action (which will happen as these are very temperamental fish), bass will be looking pretty good again.
  9. Nice video, Glenn. Mark mentions an "892" GLX rod but there isn't an 892 Baitcasting or Spinning rod listed on the G Loomis Site (there is an 892 Flipping Rod, but I doubt this is what he is referring to). Hey Mark, if you are lurking, would you be able to provide clarification?
  10. I find this to be very disappointing news. I suspect Bass Pro will convert some Cabelas stores over to a Bass Pro (while closing the others) and then will try to force feed their house brands down the consumers throats. The most saddening part is that Bass Pro's fly department is a joke. Cabelas actually has decent house brand fly rods (the LSi is still on of the most underated fly rods out there) and they always seemed to have a better in-stock selection (though, it helps that the Cabelas near me has a distribution center I can goto and pick up items). Sad news.
  11. No, I was casting it (which is a freakin' work out to do for 10 hours). I did get the idea from watching Aaron's video and I made a 3, 4, and 5 arm model. I caught that fish on the three armed model.
  12. Not a big fish by any means, but it was my first caught on my homemade Musky A-Rig (there's always an element of pride in catching a fish on a lure you made/tied)
  13. My favorite hollow bodied frog is actually a mouse. The Live Target Field Mouse gets my vote.
  14. I use my as a dedicated deep water tube rod. Excellent for that technique.
  15. Interesting question. If they stopped stocking Steelehead, I would guess the population would die out pretty quickly (much like what happened to the Salmon when PA stopped stocking them 20+ years ago). However, every once in a while a Coho or Chinook Salmon is caught in PA, so either there is some very minor natural reproduction or there is a really lost salmon from New York. So Steelhead are not classified as threatened or endangered in PA, but if you wanted to get creative on your report, you could compare the fragile nature of the artificially planted fishery and the economic impact it has on Erie as one that could be considered "endangered" if the state ceased funding the stocking program.
  16. While having a cruddy go of it in finding Smallmouth in Erie, we happened into a pod of Walleye. To lessen the sting of sucky bass fishing that day, dinner that night was certainly tasty...
  17. I think you need to retitle your thread to not how overrated the CI4 is, but how underrated the Pflueger Supreme is. I agree with you 100% as I tried the CI4, but preferred my Pflueger Supreme's over it (I have 10 spinning combos and every one has a Supreme on it. Just a great reel).
  18. I know this is a long shot, but I am always amazed at the background and talents of those on here. Have any of you guys see these Jenner Connectors?:
  19. What does your NRX line-up look like now?
  20. Heh heh...Jeff, I don't know why, but I got a chuckle over this. Thanks for the kind words. That King in terms of how Kings go isn't really "big" (as they shake ones that small off in Alaska), but being an Eastern King caught on a fly rod my wife had Scott (a.k.a. SHFishinSticks) make me as a 40th Birthday gift really added to the sentiment of the catch (and I think the pictured turned out ok. I tried posing like one of those hard core fly guys).
  21. 7lb. 0oz. 34 inches 53.5 inches Those are about the only PB's I keep track of. I have yet to catch a Largemouth I would consider worth tracking as a PB (biggest so far is only 5 pounds).
  22. I use the Davy Knot all the time when I fly fish for Trout and Steelhead. Really is quick and helps you save on tippet. However, I have never used it for bass fishing for one main reason, the difference in rods used. All my fly rods are 9' to 10' long and have a lot of "give" to them. So when fighting a fish with a fly rod, those quick burst runs can be asorbed by the rod and not as much stress is introduced into the line and knot. When bass fishing, you are using shorter, stiffer rods and there is more strain in the line. Therefore, I never felt confident enough in the Davy Knot to try on a $25 Megabass Vision 110 or some other lure that I am hoping to get a Smallmouth to smash.
  23. I assume this is a joke. Did you really put your line in the oven for 15 minutes at 400 F?
