  1. I appreciate your honest and candid view. I guess I will see if I can convince my wife and if I can't, then no real loss. Thanks again.
  2. If you know, then why not post after seeing it? I guess I am looking for encouraging words that this is not an Anti-American movie that both my wife and I will enjoy (since it will be about $25 for the both of us to see it)
  3. I don't mean to bring this thread back to life, but I watched the trailer and I just can't imagine this movie is that good. I know, I know, you will say that I have to just go and see it, which I am trying to convince my wife in doing, but it still looks very odd (and as if us Americans are crazed conquerors). Why couldn't it be the Russians who are the ones conquering foreign planets for resources (I remember growing up, the Russians were always the evil ones).
  4. $700 Budget...here is how I would break that money down (this is my personal opinion). First, I would spend $280 on the Shimano CORE 100MgFV that is currently for sale in the Flea Market Section (Scroll down to page 2 where he mentions he is selling it): http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1264703177/15 Then I would goto *** and buy a G Loomis GLX BCR854 or GLX BCR855 (depending on how heavy the cover really is). With the extra $20 or $30, I would get a spool of 15 lb. Berkley Trilene 100% Fluorocarbon. That is an awesome set-up (and one I use for all my weighted plastics). Good luck in your shopping, but whatever you choose, make sure to feel and hold both the rod and reel (and preferable the reel on the rod) before you purchase it. The last thing you would want to do is buy a rod and reel to soon find you don't like how they feel in your hand.
  5. I didn't know Dean Rojas was a member. Welcome Mr. Rojas.
  6. For shallow cranking I use a G Loomis CBR855 and a Daiwa Sol. You asked about the Deep Flex rods. I have one, but it is the CBR896DF, which is "intended" for deep diving crankbaits. I have never cast this rod yet, but it is so moderate in action that I bet it would load up when casting a shallow running crankbait. I have this rod paired up with a Revo Winch.
  7. It still doesn't change the fact that it's your fishing rod. Broken or not. They should send it back. Then have one of your buddies send it in with the Xpediter program. Just clarifying a point for LCM, not my position on the matter. And I appreciate the clarity.
  8. In one year, I went from never fishing a Shakyhead to it being my goto technique. Here is what I have found works best for me Rod: G Loomis GLX SHR822S Reel: Pflueger Supreme 8035 Line: 8 lb. XPS or Trilene 100% Fluorocarbon Jig Head: Picasso Worm: Big Bite Squirrel Tail Worm (with the Roboworm coming in a close second) (Disclaimer: these preferences are based on my experience only and this post is not intended to knock any other brand)
  9. As Speedbead pointed out, your first take was correct, but your second take is incorrect. My warranty claim was denied, and NOW I'm no longer eligible for their Xpeditor Service, and it cost me $26 to be denied. Roger Oh...I see now. Before you even sent your rod in for a warranty claim, they were trying to steer you towards the Xpeditor Service, but once you so no and you wanted to go the warranty claim route, that made you ineligible for the Xpeditor Service. Well, I am back to the opinion that they have developed to dumbest policy ever. I just don't get that...
  10. I would like clarification on that point as well. I thought you were not allowed to use the Xpeditor service because you sent the rod in for the warranty service. You had it right, Ed. The first words out of their mouth was the Xpeditor Service. They pushed Xpeditor as hard as a refrigerator salesman would push a 5-year warranty. I understand why they want the $50, but I trusted their integrity to honor my warranty instead. I was wrong, because they found a "hit mark" that was not there. Once declined, the Xpeditor Service is "no longer available" (the hot setup, eh?). Shimano furthermore refused to defray the $26 cost of shipping Their behavior only justifies my decision not to buy into their 'inexorable' Xpeditor Service. Flechero, Yes, in retrospect your approach would've been the most economical. BTW, I respect your ability to do an about-face, that's a show of principle. Roger Well, that actually clears things up for me. I was under the impression from what Bantam1 said, that once your warranty claim is denied, you are not eligible for the Xpeditor Service. I'm still sorry to hear about your bad experience, but I'm happy to hear that the Xpeditor Service was still an option (and still an option if I ever get denied on a warranty claim).
  11. 4" Senko or Smaller and when Skipping Docks, I use Spinning. 5" Senko or Larger and when fishing heavier cover, I use Baitcasting.
  12. I have used Sufix Elite and Siege for tying the butt section of fly leaders. It works great for that.
  13. I caught a bluegill once on a bare gold hook. I let the bluegill go and put the same gold hook in front of the same bluegill I just released 1 second before. He swam over and ate the hook again. I would say that fish (at least bluegill) have less than 1 second memory retention.
  14. Hmmm...I have a GLX BCR893 with a Steez on it, but for some reason yours looks different than mine and I can't put my finger on what it is...Ah, I got it. You have cork handles on your reel. That would have bothered me all day if I didn't figure out what was different. (By the way, what an AMAZING combo! Nice work.)
  15. hmmm...I have slightly an opposite viewpoint. Fortunately, I have never broken a rod, but if I found myself breaking rod regularly, then I would get a slightly cheaper rod with an unbelievable warranty (like a Bass Pro or Cabelas Brand). Those rods you can take back to the store and go get another one off the shelf with no cost to you. If I had to pay $50 everytime I broke a rod (assuming I was one who broke alot of rods), that would add up quick. The good thing about G Loomis (since a lot of the bad things have been listed here) is that they make top-of-the-line rods, which are a joy to fish with, and if I happen to break one, I would just pay $50 and a brand new replacement is on the way. Again, I think we all understand this doesn't match Bass Pro or Cabelas true "over the counter" warranty, but it is still one of the best "services" going. For that reason, I will keep my G Loomis Rods that have provided me with years of enjoyment and will buy more in the future.
  16. After going through many rod and reel combinations, I finally settled on a G Loomis GLX MBR783 and a Daiwa Sol. Great set-up for spinnerbaits in all weight ranges.
  17. I have mine on a G Loomis SMR814C-CB and I use it for jerkbaits. Great Set-up.
  18. Steve, you are in trouble. I am a Daiwa Guy and I had few Curados, which were nice, but soon were replaced with either a Fuego, Sol, or Zillion. Then I got a great deal on a Shimano Core 100MgFV. After it arrived, I was blown away. That reel is AWESOME. I ended up buying 4 more 100MgFV and another Core 50Mg. This reel is the finest reel there is (besides of course the Steez). I think you will be happy. Here is what I paired my Core 100MgFV's with: - G Loomis GLX BCFR954 - Flipping and Punching Heavy Mats - G Loomis GLX BCR875 - Carolina Rigs - G Loomis GLX BCR854 - Weighted Plastics - G Loomis Msybck BCFR894 - Hollow Bodied Frogs
  19. I don't understand?! Haha...if you type the letter "W" next to a "T" next to a "F" you will see the above message.
  20. To make your purchase even sweeter, I found on another site a 10% off TW coupon you can try. After your gift card the Extreme 702SF would be $219.99. PS I PM'ed you the link to the coupon.
  21. This can't be any worse than your Avatar...if you don't mind me asking, what is going on there?
  22. Great, now that I've looked into them more I think I'm going to save up a little more for the Extreme. Well, since you are saving money, you might as well get the GLX BSR852. I can't imagine a better, more sensitive spinning rod than this (though, I realize your original post was asking about a Dobyns, so I apologize for discussing another rod).
  23. I used to use a G Loomis Mossyback BCFR894 for flipping and a G Looomis Mossyback BCR874 for Carolina Rigs. With both of these rods, I used braid. I recently upgraded to a GLX BCFR954 for flipping and a GLX BCR875 for Carolina Rigs. Well, both of these rods have ReCoiled Guides and with the recent thread going around about grooving guides while using braid and about G Loomis's interesting warranty policy, I was thinking about using heavy Fluorocarbon on both. So to finally get to my question, has anyone had any experience with using Fluorocarbon for either Flipping or Carolina Rigging? Thanks in advance.
  24. Lake Erie and Chautauqua are two of the greatest lakes on the planet (though, I haven't visited all the lakes on the planet, so I could be wrong)
  25. I woud say the DD22, but I don't think it gets down to 20 feet. I have never used the Rapala DT20, but the other DT's seem to reach their "target" depth, so I have no reason to doubt that the DT20 will make 20 feet.
