  1. The Swamp Donkey is by far my favorite frog to fish with. Nice soft body, walks the dog great, seems somewhat durible, and my hook-up rates seems to be higher with this frog than the others. I'm happy to hear they are coming back. I may have to stock up on a few before they disapear again.
  2. As everyone said, go with the rope. Your hook-up to catch rate will go almost to 100% with this method. I used to fly fish for longnose gar and these suckers would just nip at the rope and it was fish on. The only pain is removing the rope from thier mouths. If they get the rope good and roll around a lot on you, be prepared for a little work untangling that mess from their jaws. Also, don't bring the females on-board during the spawning season. I had one unload all it's eggs all over the carpet of my boat. That was a real mess.
  3. Who is the maker of the rod? It would be a pretty good A-Rig Rod. It might be too heavy for anything else in the bass world.
  4. x2 My wife is instructed to bury me with this rod (which I hope is a long time from now).
  5. Hmmm...The Lucky Craft Man Fishing Extravaganza...I like that. Do you know of any sponsors with deep pockets will to start a show like that? The premise will be a fisherman (who admittedly sucks), but goes to locations that harbor trophy fish, hire a guide to put me on these fish, and then I will look decent (though, I think this concept has been used already). As far as not watching shows like the one I mentioned, I don't.
  6. I understand the business end of it, but if they are going to hawk me a product, at least add some educational or informative value to it. The Lindners push certain products during their show, but I feel I learned a new technique or approach after watching an episode. The guy on Fishing Univeristy also pushes his products, but all I have after watching his show is a headache, with nothing learned.
  7. My pet peeve is actually the opposite of this. I hate when a host claims, "This is a Big One!," only to have it be a 2 pounder. I know they need to build the drama of a show, but for some reason it annoys me when they call out these big fish they just hooked when it turns out to be just average at best.
  8. I purchased a Major League Fishing BassPass for the Summit Cup 2013 (the one held on Chautauqua Lake) a while ago. I logged in and I wanted to watch a few extended episodes again and it appears that I have to pay again. Is there a time limit on a BassPass? I was under the impression that once you buy a BassPass for a certain season, you could go back and watch those episodes when you wanted. Did anyone have a similar experience about having to pay again?
  9. I have found 28 IPT to be pretty optimal for most of what I do. I could see this for a flipping or pitching, but for anything else it just seems like it would be too fast.
  10. I went through the same process as you did. I have a 7'6" rod, but I wanted something a little shorter that could handle those mid-weight jigs. I know this isn't on your list, but I ended up with a G Loomis GLX BCFR863. This thing is just awesome for pitching lures in the 3/8 oz. to 3/4oz. rnage. Unfortunately, G Loomis stopped making this model, but if you look around you can find one in your price range.
  11. Well, I just spoke with Steve (the owner of Rod Wraps) and he said they are ramping up business and will have Rod Wraps flowing again. Since I called every tennis shop in the area and all grips come in precut length, I guess I will just stick with the original wrap. Moderators: I tried deleteing this topic, since my answer has been satified, but it says I do not have the authority to do so. If one of you guys wanted to do so, I would mind at all.
  12. I use Rod Wrap on the handles of all my rods. I am now so used to it, that I don't like fishing a rod without it. Well, I recently ran out and was hoping to find a more availible substitue. I have tried Tennis Racquet Handle wrap, which worked ok, but I only found them in short precut lengths and don't cover much. If anyone knows a place that may sell Tennis Racquet Handle wrap in long, non-cut, rolls, please let me know, because ideally that is what I am looking for. I did do a search for Rod Wraps and found people suggesting Tennis Racquet Handle Wrap, but no one specifed where they get their tennis wrap from and if it is in a long continous roll.
  13. I actually have a few 5'6" G Loomis Mossybacks that are MH in power and I love to use when fishing from the shore around docks. It is incredible how accurate I can cast this thing and it is quite a fun expeience pulling a 20 in. LM from under a dock with this little stick.
  14. I entered this the last two years and just forgot to get in this year, which it figures is the year I catch my PB smallmouth bass. ( 7lb. SM / 8.5lb. SM PA State Record = 0.8235). Oh well, I'll just have to catch a bigger one next year ;-) Nice catches for all those who did enter!
  15. Wow...sad news there. I'm sure we have all be caught by surprise by the weather. My heart goes out to his family. Here is another article about a 29 year old in Illinois who got struck by lightening. That lightening is a wicked thing. http://www.muskyhunter.com/musky-matters/lightning-strike-kills-illinois-musky-fisherman/
  16. The one thing you want in any reel (low cost or not) is a sealed drag system. There is nothing worse than dipping your reel in a turbid stream and have fines around your drag disc. I think the Sage 1800 has a sealed drag, which will serve you sell.
  17. I agree with the Lamson recommendation. I have 10 fly rods and everyone has a Lamson on it. As far as the Predator goes (I have a 10 wt.), I am casting 10+ inch flies and I wanted a really stiff rod, which it fits the bill. I don't think I would want one for anything else.
  18. I know exactly what sales rep. you are referring to (he told me the same thing). I was at the Charleston store looking for a fly rod for musky and he referred me to a Redington Predator. I asked him where they were on the rack and he said that Cabelas doesn't sell them. I really liked his honesty and when I did find a place that sold the Predator, I was really impressed. Though, I have not exactly used that rod, I can say that my experience with Redington Rods has been a very positive one. Good luck in your search.
  19. Oh, I love WFN. Fly fishing tuesday is my favorite day of the week. The Saltwater shows lose my interest a little, but I DVR enough shows to fill in the voids.
  20. I love that lake. It is only the North Winds that pose a major problem. I have a 14ft. Crestliner that I take on that lake all the time and have been out in 20mph winds with it. It was not fun, but it handles the situation fine. Do you have any pictures?
  21. I think the GLX MBR783 is the ultimate utility rod that can perform every techniue well (with the Spinnerbait being right in it's wheel house). If I am fishing from shore and can only take one rod with me, it is this rod. I do have the GLX BCR803, which is a great rod, but I feel it is more tuned to plastics and bottom baits. Good luck in your search and I am sure you will be happy with either.
  22. How long is a 4.5 pound Pickeral?
  23. I'm not sure I get the point of this post, except for that Capt. Bob like his St. Croix's. I am a G Loomis fan and I didn't really like the St. Croix's that I tried, but in the end it doesn't matter. You fish with what you enjoy. We are all here to share our passion of fishing and not compare who's rod is longer. These divisive threads are more detrimental to a forum like this than they are beneficial. RW, is Irene around?
  24. Dwight, Great Looking Fish!! They should just give you the keys to the city and make the month of May, Dwight Hottle Month.
