I've never had any problems using the uni knot on fire line. It's the only know it use on that line.

I'm definitely going to get at least of few sessions with it and try some different things to see if it will fit my arsenal. Even if it only fits a few select applications, I wouldn't worry about it too much since I got it so cheap. This may lead to me buying another St. Croix at full price though, lol.

Let me try it this way: it's not what I'm used to. I'm going to take it out and fish with it a couple of times before deciding to keep or sell.

I think I'm mostly comparing it to my other medium rods. This one just doesn't seem to flex as much during the cast so I feel like I'm getting less "fling" off of it. I kid you not, the only reason I have this rod is because I was browsing Gander Mountain and saw this rod sitting there with a $59 price tag on it. I knew right away it wasn't correct, so I took it up to customer service, asked them if it was right, they said "No, it's $199.99, but pricing errors go in favor of the customer. Would you like it for $59?" I felt like I couldn't get my wallet out fast enough.

So, I recently acquired a brand new 7' spinning rod. Medium heavy/fast action. St. Croix Avid. What should I use it for? I mainly fish LM and SM (rivers) and typically use casting outfits, but everything is usually medium power rods. This MH feels STIFF compared to my mediums. For now, I through a Lew's speed spin on it and have it spooled with 12lb Berkely Nanofil. It's kind of difficult to cast lighter baits, like Texas rigged worms. Is there any special application for a MH? I think I'm just thrown off by how much stiffer it is than my current rods. Thanks.

I've always had good luck with plastic crawfish baits. That said, the last two times I tried fishing the Saline river for smallmouth, I caught just one flathead catfish.

I've been using these Magellan boots for the last 2 years. They are pretty nice. Very comfortable once you are actually in the water and wading. My only criticisms are that they don't really drain, so once your feet are wet--they are wet. Also, the sole stared to separate from the boot a little bit right at the arch. Warner Tybee Hooked (240) I love it. I also really like the light weight and adjustable ferrule. I use mine at the 15 degree setting.

I've never done this type of competition before, but wouldn't the anglers be responsible for keeping track of their own fish and culling photos? The just submit their top 2 or 3 or whatever on the final day?

What are thoughts about letting it run more than a single weekend? With work and family, it can be difficult for some of us to find time. That, and I actually have a fishing trip scheduled for the second weekend in April. . . Aside from my own sschedule, I think a longer open period, maybe 10-14 days, would give more people an opportunity to get involved.

Are we going to go Fri-Sun or just Sat-Sun? Fri is my only available day to fish. I would also like to see it be open to all black bass. ETA: A longer running competition would be cool too. Maybe do anywhere from 2 weeks to a month or two, just to give people ample opportunity to get out and fish.

I fished the Saline River last week and not a bite. Targeted bass and walleye with slow crankbaits, jigs and plastics. Heading to Lake Maumelle in the next few days to see what the white bass are up to. Usually fish for them from my kayak west of the HWY10 bridge. You could always try and go chase some trout below Carpenter d**n on Lake Catherine. They are supposedly biting pretty well there right now.

I skipped the silicone on my well nuts for that very reason. Haven't had any problems. Now, I did use silicone in areas where I used a rivet or a self tapping screw, just not with well nuts.

Will do. I've heard of Cadron and Crooked, but never been on either. The Rush to White float is nice, but that 18" minimum is a killer. We caught more fish on the Rush to White trip, but we caught bigger fish on the Gilbert to HWY14 float. Go figure. The lower wilderness is the Blue Ribbon Trophy area too.
