  1. Does anyone make any twin arm spinnerbaits in 3/4 or 1 oz?
  2. Don't get too dogmatic with crankbaits. Flat-sided and wide wobbling cranks work year-round, just have to see what the fish what. Wiggle warts are one of my favorite crankbaits and I fish them in very cold water.
  3. Thanks for the replies. I've tried a 4/0 and the worm had little action.
  4. I'm going to order some jigheads. What hook size would you use for 4" worms (centipedes and finesse worms) on a shakeyhead jig? 3/0? 2/0? The lure-maker will be using Mustad Ultra-Point #32798 BLN 60° flat eye hooks.
  5. Is there a noticeable difference between the regular cutter 110+ and the skinny cutter while fishing? I've used the regular one and really like it. Are there conditions where one would consistently out-perform the other(or maybe a particular niche for one or the other)? I'm curious about trying the skinny cutter but also want to keep the bait monkey chained up.
  6. Does anyone have any insight into when the next TW sale is? Does Tackle Warehouse have any sales around Labor Day?
  7. I'm thinking about picking up some more Revo STX's. I really liked the Gen 3, but haven't thrown around the Gen 4. Has anyone fished with both? Which do you prefer? I don't want to assume that the Gen 4 is automatically a better reel--are there any considerable differences between the two generations.
  8. I saw that Strike King came out with a 1.5 Deep Diver Square Bill which dives to about 10 ft. Anybody try one yet? Impressions? They look pretty interesting. I have an H2O deeper squarebill I like so I might have to give these a try.
  9. I think it's important for crankbaits to make contact with cover to trigger a strike--whether it's ripping off some grass, bumping rocks or crashing through a brushpile.
  10. The salt from most soft plastics will eventually cause the hooks to rust if they're exposed to any moisture. I used to do that with my jigheads and found that many had rusted in very little time.
  11. I recently got a two ounce extra deep diving crankbait. I was wondering at what point I'd need to use a bigger, more powerful reel. I currently use a BPS pro qualifier in a low, 5.2:1 gear ratio. This reel has been great for my deep cranking needs with more conventional lures (6xds, etc ). What weight or lure resistance tells you that you need to step up your reel?
  12. I caught fish with trailerless bitsy bugs as a kid. Nowadays I'd definitely put a trailer on. You can put almost anything behind a swim jig. Personally, I like a 5" grub or a small swimbait. A trailer adds profile and sensory attraction to a swimjig.
  13. I was thinking of getting some of the #5 size. I've never seen them in person. I keep hearing that they seem smaller- would the size #5 look more like a #6 with these hooks?
  14. I've seen this happen in ponds. There was this laydown next to a drop-off on the dam of a particular pond that consistently held this 2.5-3 lb. bass. I caught this fish multiple times. I think especially in smaller bodies of water, certain bass find their niches and stick to them.
  15. Thanks for the replies. I lost a couple of my cranks to some deep snags this past tournament (forgot my lure retriever at home). I fish as a non-boater and one thing I learned last tournament was the importance of casting angles when fishing in the back. I got snagged when I cast perpendicular or behind the boat because the boat drift/movement wouldn't allow my crankbait to back out of snags. Catt, that Norman NXS looks like a crankbait I'll have to try. I normally use 5xds for that depth range and am curious to see how they compare.
  16. What deep crankbaits run true to the manufacter's claims and catch fish? I'm looking at crankbaits that run 16-25ft. What are some good reliable crankbaits for this range? Any come thru cover better than others? Thanks.
  17. I'm planning on teaching my little brothers to fish artificials. What are your favorite rigs/techniques for just hammering dinks- for those 100+ fish days. When I was really young I had a summer where I almost never got skunked throwing 4" watermelon yum dingers texas rigged weightless. I also threw the smallest size bomber fat A in fire tiger. Between those two lures, I used to catch those smaller bass like crazy. Recently, I caught my first ned rig bass. I hope to experiment with that rig more this summer.
  18. I think the timber was removed before it was flooded. Now, when they build newer reservoirs, they leave the timber there.
  19. I have three older flood control reservoirs near me. They have little weed growth, better water clarity, and less timber than newer reservoirs. They are 300 acres or less. They get much less attention than the newer lakes. How do you approach fishing older lakes? Do you do anything different?
  20. I once bought some Storm wiggle warts at a flea market that I thought were pre-rapala. They were in these bright, gaudy salmon fishing colors. Was going to have them repainted. Upon further inspection, I learned they were newer warts. Felt pretty stupid. These baits will just sit as a reminder not to make impulsive buying decisions.
  21. How do you like these reels? I have the chance to get a used one for a reasonable price and was wondering if I should pull the trigger or just save for a newer reel. How do these reels perform?
  22. I'm a novice with the ned rig. What are some options for an affordable ned rig rod (1/16-1/8oz. jigheads mostly)? I'm looking to spend less than $70. I've heard some people say an expensive, sensitive rod isn't important for ned rigs due to the light weight of the lures and because most bites are detected by line watching with this rig. Is this true? What are your thoughts?
  23. I'm looking to buy some jigheads (swim jig, flat eye arky and football) and swinging heads. I'm looking for options with different hook sizes, light and heavy wire, etc. I've bought from elken lures and I like those jigheads very much. What are some other options?
  24. I like two tone colors when possible. Black w/ blue swirl for example. Tequila sunrise is a classic producer.
  25. Thanks for the the tips. I'm definitely leaning towards the 17-20lb. flouro now.
