  1. I tried this many many years ago, with a perch patterned rapala jerkbait. did it work? yeah,.. after i took the first hook off and could actually fish it, and ground down the bill a bit so it wasnt constantly catching bottom. but it didnt produce like I thought it would so i scraped it
  2. I usually dont go heavier than 12 pd test stren mono, but then yet im getting old and am set in my ways,... but thats what i have always used even in bogs, swamps, and other various scary areas.,. my pb came on 12 pd green stren
  3. doesnt anyone use pork rinds anymore? they have got to be the number 1 trailer for jigs, and i like the fact that they hold scents better than any other trailer made. I still have some and still use them
  4. My hook choices depends on the size of the lure, I will choose the smallest I can get away with,.... like in worms? i have some finesse worms that i will texas rig with a 1/0 offset shank round bend, and then I have some 12 inch monsters that I will texas rig with a 6/0 ewg,... this is based on the thickness of the worms head obviously,..Pit boss and brush hogs have some thickness to them so they would get a 4/0 ewg,... lizards fall into same catagory as worms. and the few times I actually used a senko i think i used a 1 octotpus
  5. A old arkie 3/8oz black with a slightly trimmed black 101 pork rind, I also add a small piece of white plastic, before i attach the rind, like a piece of a manns twin tail trailer for a body to 1. add some color, 2, keep the pork from sliding down the hook, 3 add some more bulk to slow the fall even more. that "body" piece is key. sharpen the hook, also drown in real craw, and its ready to go
  6. I just put up 2 pics of my 2000 16.5 ft tracker deep v on the rig thread (near last post). take a look, its a tiller model so theres no console in the middle of the boat, opening up the deck. When my kids were young i took all 3 and my gf out for a day of fishing.,.. and even with no console, it was tight, would have been better with only 2 kids, but still kinda tight. the boat handled it, and we had fun but a 18 or 19 may have suited us better, the new tracker deep v's have a bit more room as they are wider by a few inches, and thats huge in comparison. the hidden costs and accessories, prior posts covered well. Make sure you look around for a while and get what you want. It will be a while before you decide to get a newer rig and during that time you will want something that fits your needs
  7. NIIICCCEEEE! boat Nitro, congrats on the upgrade and im sure some day your dream nitro will be yours. you will work out the pro crafts kinks im sure. And yes the baby pic does make ones day for sure. who couldnt smile at that pic? And thank the young serviceman for his service for me, happy he caught one. I feel your pain Bluebasser86, but good memories die hard, hold on to those good times,...and always remember, good lord provides us with what needs be, when needs be... and good things do come to the righteous. Just look at nitro now, hes got a bigger better ride to assist the veterans in the kind manner he does,... Your day will come to. and I hope and pray soon. You and Nitro have released your first rig, and thats gotta be tough, but new things fill in the spaces. I hope I have the resolve to continue on uneffected if I were to let my boat go, but i kinda doubt it. I bought mine new in 97 they replaced it in 2000, when i gave them back the 97 it saddened me a bit, even though i got a new one in return. I cant imagine what you guys have been thru. but pray you both good tidings Catt and Tim gave me a good long needed laugh ,...Thanks And Catt, with 6 kids and raising 2 grandkids,... At 64,.. you must be fishing on autopilot, and really napping!,. I can see it now; "snoore, snort! snooore,....whooops, another 5lber, ,....musta been the snort" . lord knows you could,...lmao!!!!!! Ditto on the family stuff Nitro,.. I have 3 daughters as well, and I have always been all about them first, but they are now all teens, and tell me they dont need me, they're all about the smartphone and drama, and im sure you know,..they, "know it all"..Im still here for them and always will be but,..these days I need my release, my sanity, my tracker!...lmao ,..They are upset I sold the bike, they loved that thing. but they like the boat too, and with my injuries the boats a smarter choice. Even though material things are minial and miniscule in the scope of things, they can bring joy, happiness, and endless memories. And when those things are shared with loved ones, they become something more than miniscule and minial, almost part of the family. The memories my girls have of days we fished together will be the ones they never forget, rides i took them on the bike, again they will remember. And to me? their happiness is all that really matters. Im sure you all know the smiles on their faces when they caught their first smallie, or the long ride down that "certain country road" Bringing them joy is what im all for, as you said,. "there is really not much else that matters" Keep ya line wet!
  8. Thats a good plan, good luck!, gotta love Maine, i sure do
  9. I have a 7' 11" bass hunter that i bought in the early 80's a few years ago I took a good look and decided to paint it.,... I ended up with the krylon plastic paint, spray cans, greyish in color., Gave the boat a good washing and a better rinse one day, and painted the next. Planned it so weather was nice for a few days and it came out awesome,..looks almost new at 35 years old
  10. LOL ,...good thing i thought first,..i wonder how many guys are cursing that commercial,... stuck at the ramp til a good samaritan comes along and is nice enough to give them a ride to that brand new 65k boat floating away wayyyy over there, towards the rocks, in a 20 mph wind. now that I think of it? Its not funny
  11. As far as a gunnel mount with no holes? i dont know I've seen some that utilize seat bases, whether its a 3/4 pin, or the 2" pulltab version
  12. check out your states requirements for electric motors, whether they need to be registered or not, I had to register my canoe for a trolling motor in my state. At first i had a 10 pd thrust (in the 80's) which worked but slow and windy days I still had to paddle. I upgraded to a 28 pd thrust and that was much better, worked fine, but had to be careful as to how far I turned, as to not swamp it. I then upgraded to a pontooned 8' bass hunter and never looked back
  13. Im sure he would, and thanks nitro, I got alot of complements on that bike...did you get another boat? I hope so,..if not, your welcome to come and fish with me whenever ya want.,.. also Im sorry to hear that you let your rig go, I know it would be a hard time for me to do so without a replacement.,... I've had offers for mine, actually asked what it would take for me to let it go,..my reply?,.."pry my cold dead hands from it" But things happen, and ya do what ya got to when the time comes, as i used to reply to offers for the bike in the same manner,...lol
  14. Id have it inspected by a reputable dealer looking for hull cracks (inside and out) and have them check out the motor as well,...it's money well spent,... also find out what size motor its rated for, as if your looking for a future re-power,...like Catt said champions are a great hull, and they truly are,.. ive been on a few and, depending on a seasoned boater, they ride smooth and fast. If all checks out good and you pull the trigger, since its been sitting, plan on swapping out the trailers wheel bearings, if its been sitting for 20 years they can divot a spot where all the weight was on one spot that long, this is short money as opposed to getting it towed home, only to have to replace a whole hub assembly.... and make sure the tires dont have dry rot anywhere, usually on the inside of the tires under the boat,...20 years is a long time to sit,.. find out what it books via kelly blue book she looks like a nice rig, clean, and its a champ
  15. this is what I gave up to repower my boat with the desperatly needed ulterra with I pilot link, helix 9 (to link with), and newer electric start and trim 40 hp merc. The crazy things we do for the things we love, ,....the bike went to my brother so I see it often, Kinda hurts a little everytime i see it, I miss that rocket
  16. One thing no one has mentioned,..with the rope from boat to trailer method of unloading? I attached clips to the ends of the rope so im not fighting tight knots at the ramp.,. one clipped on the bow eye, and the other clipped to the safety strap I slowly float the boat, brake the truck, unclip from the trailer and walk the boat to the dock,... with the docklines already on the boats cleats , just tie off to the dock so others can use the ramp and go park the truck/trailer I now have the ulterra but will still use the rope method as I refuse to rely on the tm as of yet,...its still new and I dont know how far away the remote will work,...I can see my boat floating away and me standing there looking like the typical $#^&head with nothing but a useless remote in my hand. I will try that commercial trick when i have someone with me to drive the truck and me on the boat first
  17. I hope this works,..My 2000 tracker super guide v 16 tiller,..(one of a kind)
  18. I hope this works,..My 2000 tracker super guide v 16 tiller,..(one of a kind) the tracker 2 the tracker
  19. summertime shorefishing? topwater, spinnerbait, powerworm, jig and pig, and jerkbait
  20. try using a deep diving crankbait in the open water areas, This will allow you to feel out the bottoms structures, and cover. After a few outings you will know whats down there, and where you should be concentrating your time on. You will no longer be wondering, you will know.,..If the water is too deep for the crankbait use a heavy bottom bouncing lure. This is what I used to do in the canoe I had access to in my teen years. It had no fishfinder, but, I knew the ponds depths and content.
  21. wow! what a nice rig, congrats A-Jay,.. I saw this on a different thread but didnt know it was new for you,... Great choices for accessories as well., I hope and wish you nothing but great success on it. Break it in well and run it often. Seeing as you were in a canoe before this im thinking the canoe will collect a little dust before she gets wet again,.. and who could blame you, that sure is a beauty of a rig,.. Be safe and rip some lips!
  22. Ditto Catt!,... I can add that I have a ton of different makes and models with Stanley's, and Manns Classics being my favorites. The vibrashaft and wedges kick bass,..I also have a dozen Hart's that are single bladed colorados for thick covered areas and slow rolling., And another dozen or so 1 and 3/4 oz Hogstickers, these are my staples,.... As for strike kings I have a few of them too, but the ones i have are for specific conditions. Some other commendables? Fleck, Terminator, and Booyah When im fishing I have 50 or so different sizes and makes with me,,... and another 4 plano spinnerbait boxes at home, (i think theres 24 per box)
  23. considering the hours your fishing try a topwater, when the light starts to fade it takes a while for a fishes eyes to adjust to the light change. If the light is fading when you are starting to fish, it will take a bit of time for them to adjust. Topwaters that make a racket will draw a few strikes during this time as its a sound thats attracting them not a color or flash
  24. a jig and pig usually draws bigger fishes attention, or a spinnerbait,... give them a try
  25. Ok,..as far as the law goes?,...Im not one to "push" it with a lakefront homeowner. I copied the law and keep a couple copies on the boat to defuse any volatile situations, If a homeowner says anything about "Its their property" or "you cant" I just politely say "I have something for you" pull out my map book (a three ringed binder in a zippered cover) grab a copy and hold it out for them. Its really just a attempt to keep tempers down and insure the future fishing ventures. It has worked in the past,"mostly" once there was a guy that just wouldnt stop as I was trolling away so i just iggy'ed him, and was met by a cop at the ramp, who understood my side, but had to check it out anyways. Only to find out that the guy has been calling the cops on a weekly basis all year, and was "to be dealt with" The next time i fished that lake the guy was in his yard but didnt utter a word to me at all. I didnt fish his dock, but kept an eye on him as I trolled on by As for anglers that just totally disrespect homeowners property? Thats just wrong, and Im sure they are the bad apples that ruin the barrell. If I have any doubts of my abilities to cast to a dock without doing any harm , I will move on without making any casts to it at all, If there are people on the dock I will ask if they mind me fishing it, and I will respect their decisions.' I do understand both sides, I dont own a lakefront home, but know some that do, and have heard their complaints. Do I argue with them? no,... i refuse to. Will I trash someones dock? heck no, any docks I ever got hung on,.., I retrieved my lure with no damage to their property. And when learning to skip lures I had my fair share of rope hookups. I have no desire to have my day of fishing ruined by an angry homeowner. I much prefer a calm peaceful day with my only battles being done with rod and reel against opponents being of the scaled species. I respect your opinions, and hope that you only have tight lines, and wage war on the fish, not each other, With the millions of anglers in the world these days , there's bound to be some friction somewhere. Keep in mind this is a sport to some, hobby to others, and pastime to the majority. Play nice, be respectful, and we will reep the benefits of mother natures bounty. Otherwise the evil opponents that take drastic measures to stop our fun, will use the negative skirmishes against us. Ive seen it happen already here, the salt water shoreline access around here is dwindleing quickly due to their efforts. And its only getting worse, they are diligent, persistent, and just a major pain in the ,...umm,....errr,..tukus (as mom says) im talking about PETA
