  1. i agree with Wayne P.....the rain will wash alot of food into the water for the fish so they should feed pretty good during and right after rain...i always have luck fishing in the rain...if its not too heavy to where it runs me back on home...but fishing before, during, and after rain are some of the best times i have ever fished...hope this helps...good luck!
  2. very nice story!! sounds familar around my house hold!
  3. very few each year...it isnt a good feeling when you do accidently kill one either .....if one does swallow the hook like you said one of yours did i usually jus cut the line...i do believe they survive too...i heard that the hook will eventually rust and it will pop out leaving no harm to the fish...i hope that is true!
  4. Welcome to the best fishin board ever!! i would try a zoom buzz frog across the tops of the pads early in the morning and right before dark...i do this in the ponds i fish with pads in them and it almost always produces a 5+ pounder....good luck!!
  5. thats a monster...i would deffinately make the net guy swim back to the dock and hitch a ride home!!
  6. man that is too bad....that was a hell of a fish!
  7. What is your favorite catfish bait or what works best for you guys??? I know alotr of people use chicken livers but i have never really had much luck on those......the bait i rely on and use the most is clam snouts....they stink and they release alot of oils in the water which seems to attract them good...also the simple hot dog dipped in stink bait 8-)hahaha....what do you guys like to use the most??
  8. when i fish pads i have used senkos right on the pad line and it has produced good fish for me....i also ALWAYS bring a buzz frog slowly across the tops of them....to do this you have got to have a heavy action rod and very strong line to yank em out of the pads....i have always used 20 lb braid to do this but i have even got broke off with that....my cousin has a reel spooled with 50 lb power pro which is specifically for the lilly pad fishing and he says it works really well to yank em out.....good luck
  9. i usually use smaller tubes around 3 or 3.5 inches on one of the new ikey head jig heads....also i use smaller spinner baits, senkos, small jerkbaits, beetle spins.....and any other kind of spinners you can catch em on.....
  10. thats a nice fish man...i have fished for peacocks once while visiting my grandparents in FL....i miss fishin for em cus it was sooo much fun!!! im hoping to make it back down there again to fish for them again!!!
  11. thats an excelent fish man!!! im sure she survived if she took off on her own while you were reviving her...again congrats on a great fish!!
  12. I recently had a great outing wading the rivanna river....me and a friend got on the 4 wheelers and rode through the woods to the river....we usuely wade either up or down stream for a couple hours so i know the area well and the holes and good fishin spots....well we got in the river and got to the first hole and i caught one nice 17 inch smallmouth and about 10 more smaller ones with some small bluegill and river chub mixed in....so i caught about 12 fish in the one hole!! as we moved on we were catchin smaller fish but alot of them....we waded for about 2 hrs and in that time i caught 35 smallmouth, 5 bluegill and 4 river chub.....so catching 44 fish in 2 hrs was a hole lot of fun!!! and to make it better with the competition with my buddy he only caught 10 fish...so i had to rub it in....wish i had some pics of the bigger 17b incher but i dont carry the camera with me in river....good luck to everyone on your next trip!!!
  13. way to go....sounds like ya hade a great 2 days of fishing...congrats to your wife on breaking here personal best twice in 2 days!! thats awsome!!

  15. thats what im talkin' about!!! way to go man!!....im hoping to get a chance to hit the river after some smallies soon myself...hope to hook into a pig like that!!
  16. i have had the exact same thing happen to me before...i had no clue what to do....the next day i went back and nailed him with a lure with the exact presentation that he had no interest in the day before....so i guess its just depends on how they feel or how much they have allready feeded that particular day....hope this helps!
  17. sounds like ya hade a good outing there basspro....fishing has sucks here lately....ever since i caught the 7 lber i can barely catch a small one....but me and Jordan are gonna go try somewhere we havnt been yet tomorrow...hopefully my luck will get better!!! we need to come down there and fish all weekend sometime.....just go everywhere and then the same up here man!!!!....later

  19. congrats man!! thats some nice looking fish ya got there....im gonna be in FL for 10 dyas in July with a friend of mine....he said theres a private lake nearby so im hoping theres some peacocks in there....its been a few years since i last caught one, which was the last time i was in FL!!
  20. to 2nd avids story...me and my brother were fishing for some really small fish in the pamlico sound...i forgot what we the fish actually were called since it was years ago but we were using bread on a hook as bait and one swooped down and grabbed it and he fought it like it was a fish and reeled him in unhooked him and let him flyh away.....haha d**n seagull was ripping drag....my brother said he wasnt loosing a good hook to a stupid seagull.....
  21. that looks like its a blast!!! i have never tried it before. I think im gonna have to soon though. Do you guys usely use darker colored baits? I have always been told that if you try to night fish to use darker colored lures....is that always true?
  22. way to go man!! kayak is really fun in the river....also i prefer fishing in a ocean kayak way more than a enclosed one....for several reasons...first off your not like trapped in there and can do what you want with your legs....also if you ask me they are wayyyy more sturdy and wont flip as easy, at least thats the way my buddies yak is...i love that thing....especially for yakin' out big tuna heads while shark fishing in Buxton on the point in OBX!!! cant get enough of it!!
  23. Well today(5-26-07) i decided to fish several ponds.....i decided to go to a friends private pond this afternoon that i have fished for the past 4 years....its a pond i like to fish alot since its only a 5 min ATV ride through the woods....anyways the first year i fished there the place was like heaven....we caught at least over a dozen largemouth over 4 and 5 pounds a month, with none over 6 which is fine with me cus 4-5 pounders are still big fish...well ever since then we havnt caught a fish over 3 pounds!!! it was starting to tick me off untill this year....last weekend my brother caught a very nice 8 pounder.....well this weekend i was looking to capitalize on him and catch up....we catch small 8-12" bass by the dozen in there.....i fished with a spinner bait one time around the pond and then a crawdad and lizard the second time with no bigguns'....so the third time i tied on a shallow diving orange and black crank bait...i went right to some submerged tree that are about 4-8 feet under water.....the first cast in there something nailed it and i knew it was big b/c he was ripping some drag....well he end up wrapping me around a tree....at this point i was ticked....although i could still feel the fish pulling....so i took a chance and trust my 20 pound line and pulled like crazy and got him untangled....he made 2 more very good runs and i got him to the boat....i was just absolutely flipping out when i got him in the boat....it was a beautiful 7 pounder, a new personal record!!!...i was very thankful to since there was only one hook of the three on the treble hook in his lip....i have never been happier in my life....snapped a few pictures and put him back for another day....thought about mounting him but i always said its gotta be at least 8 for me to do that....and i got plenty of years left to do that!!!....but what a way to start out the spring and summer with a 8 and a 7 pounder!!! im looking forward to fishing there this summer.....good luck to everyone on you next outing!!! heres the pic!!!
  24. some nice fish there basspro.....too bad you didnt remember to call me!!!...Jordan caught a real nice 8 pounder saturday.....i would post the picture but its on my phone....she was a pig...i cant really cast my baitcaster that good b/c of the wrap on my hand from my surgery :'( but i did the best i could and still couldnt out beat the famous older brother :-/....but anyways let me know in a message if you guys are out for memorial day b/c i might be floating the river and i know fishing somewhere...just let me know man...either that or ill come down there...either one....later
  25. i would also try bringing a horny toad across the tops of them....i put just a hook and the plastic horny toad on the line and sling it across the pads into open water about 4 or 5 feet from the pads and slowly bring it across the top and over the tops of the pads.....you will have a heck of a time watchin' them bass explode on the top gettin' it...especailly when its a pig!!! and yea you will need some tough braided line to yank them boys outa the thick stuff....good luck!!
