  1. Thanks, I checked out Dobyns and they look pretty good.
  2. I started looking for a bait casting rod to use for lipless and small cranks. I'm a St Croix guy so I did look at their glass rods. I was on the Chicagoland fishing show exhibitors list checking to see if St Croix would be at the show when I found a short video w/KVD talking about his new redesigned Quantum KVD Tour cranking rod. It's a composite/glass rod made to use for small cranks and lipless cranks. I didn't know that there were comp/glass rods made for crank baits. I'd like to hear from anyone who has used this rod for lipless and which model did you get? I looked on St Croix site, found glass but no composite/glass rods. Is there any other rod I should be looking at?
  3. The pic must be too big. When I get home later I'll try again...sorry guys.
  4. I'll try again.
  5. I've been fishing this craw & stupidly threw the package away. So if anyone recognizes the attached photos & could tell me who the manufacturer & bait is...I'd appreciate the info.
  6. I'd like everyone to see what type of company and customer service Humminbird is. I have a 898c SI and have been having problems w/2d sonar so I contacted Humminbird. The customer service rep was very good but we couldn't resolve the 2D sonar problems I was having over the phone. So she requested I send the unit and transducer in to their repair center and told me the turn around time to get it back is usually 5 days...not even close. Humminbird recieved my unit on Weds June 19th and I had it back by Friday June 21st! They had made a repair to the unit and replaced the transducer because it was malfunctioning in 2d sonar. This is why you buy Humminbird...outstanding customer service. Thank you Humminbird.
  7. Thanks for the suggestions.
  8. I'd like to get some ideas on my first trip out this weekend. The water temp is just around 50 on a deep southern Wisconsin lake. What type of baits & techniques would you try? Ok guys give me some ideas.
  9. This is the latest I've seen ice out in Wisconsin. The bass fishing opener is always the 1st Saturday in May. This year as of today most lakes in northern Wisconsin still have 20" of ice. In southern Wisconsin the water temp is between 46-50 degrees. So with the opener this Saturday and water temps in the low 50"s, what would be your choice in what to throw and/or best technique?
  10. I'm looking to buy a new Humminbird 898c SI Combo & naturally I'm looking for the best deal. So far I've found them from $1249 to $1499. Any help on this?
  11. Here is something else to consider. My buddy & I own a 18 1/2' Lund together. We were strictly Lowrance guys until we had some problems w/both of our units. We got kind of jacked around by their service...it took 6 months to find out they wouldnt't do anything about our problems (1 unit the out housing cracked/the other I can't recall). Plus I think...could be wrong...that there was a charge for any updates to the units. So in 09' we switched to Humminbird and never regretted it. All software updates are free & easy to do. We've had to use Humminbird's service twice. Their turn around time once the unit was in their possession...we had it back in 4 days on one & 5 days on the other.
  12. Wayne...yea I'm not expecting the 898 to come down much...I've found it for $1249 & $1289 at 2 online marine stores. I actually think that's probably as low as I'll find it. But since I'm living in the north (Chicago area)...I'm not in a hurry & might as well wait to see if I get lucky. Wayne you seem to know as much about Humminbird units as anyone...don't you think 3/4 of the icons in the Humminbirds aren't much use to marking fishing waypoints?
  13. I need some info for anyone who has already bought a 898c SI Combo. I recently sold my 798 to buy the 898. I'd like to know if Humminbird made any changes for editing waypoints. On my 798 I'd create a waypoint & name it. But when I it came to picking the icon that best matches what is at that waypoint...the icons to choose from for fishing was very limited. So for the 898 I want to buy...has Humminbird increased the fishing icons so that there are more choices to describe what's at that waypoint? Since I sold the 798...I'm just waiting to see how much the price ($1499) will come down when the sales start...like the Bass Pro Spring Classic. Thanks for any help.
  14. I've got 2 Humminbirds and would like to find a product that both cleans the screens & removes waterspots. Any suggestions?
  15. Any more thoughts other than Wayne P? I'm still trying to decide if I want to get the 898c SI Combo, I'll have to sell my 798ci SI Combo NVB unit first. Lots of thinking to do.
  16. My buddy has a Humminbird 997 on his console and is looking for a Humminbird for his trolling motor. I have the older model (June 2010) 798ci SI Combo NVB and think it's a great unit. So I suggested buying the same unit. But he's leaning at getting the newer Humminbird 798ci HD SI Combo and also looking at the 800 series. The only problem in the 800 series is that there is only one unit (898c SI Combo) that has both side & down imaging. There must be a reason why Humminbird came out with one unit (858c Combo) that has no down or side imaging, one unit (858c DI Combo) that only offers down imaging and the 898c SI Combo that has bothe SI & DI. Any thoughts on what you would suggest to buy & why? The cost difference between the 798ci HD SI Combo ($950) and the 898c SI Combo ($1280) is a big one for me. Any help?
  17. [Glad it worked out for you...Don't you hate that, the simple solutions are often overlooked and over analyzed...LOL...The older I get the more this is happenening to me.] Boy have you got that right! Tight lines all. thanks.
  18. I have applied the conditioner to the line as you put it on your reel...thanks. I did shoot off a email to KVD's website asking for the same info on applying his conditioner but haven't heard back yet.
  19. Thanks to Jigfishn10, Grimlin & OkobojiEagle who posted just cut off the hook...add a split ring & new treble. Duh...it's so simple & a great solution. With all the trebles on cranks that I change...this never entered my mind. I knew if I put the question out there...someone would have an idea or two...glad I found Bass Resource years ago. Thanks again, this should do the job. Crank.
  20. Has anyone who's used KVD line conditioner ever heard of applying the conditioner to the entire spool...then put the spool in a ziplock type bag & let it soak in until you need to put it on your reel? I either saw this on Bass Pros tv show or read it here on Bass Resource. I've never tried it but it makes sense. When you go to the KVD line conditioner website...it doesn't mention doing this. But it does say to spray on liberally and let it dry before using the line the 1st time you apply the conditioner. Anyone else ever heard of this?
  21. Getting everything ready to get back out for another season. Glanced in my box w/Blue Fox Vibrax Spinners and found the trebles covered w/rust. I know I can get the rust off using a hook sharpener. But is there a solution I could soak the trebles in that'll take off the rust and not damage the treble and/or spinner? If I wanted to just put a new treble on...cutting off the old is easy. But there's no way that I can see to add a new treble. know I could just cut the old treble off but there's no way to put on a new treble on...any ideas? Thanks much.
  22. NorcalBassin has it right. A few years back KVD was fishing w/stick baits...I think it was on BPS "The Bass Pros". He was talking about how he experimented with & without red trebles to see...did it make a difference? If it did how many red trebles would work best? He was using the same stick bait & it had 3 trebles. The results were that he caught 50-60% more bass when he changed only the middle treble with a red treble...of course they were Mustad Triple Grip trebles. But I also agree w/Bluebasser86 & Vinny...if you think it helps do it. Then again a few days ago I was watching another BPS "The Bass Pros" show & KVD was talking about how using a feathered treble on topwater lures is a must. I usually use a red treble (Lucky Craft) on the front of my cranks (except the natural colored cranks) and a feathered treble for the rear...again...a confidence thing.
  23. I keep all of my tungsten weights separated in a small Falcon FTO box. I'm trying to put an order together and need some help on the different sizes. If I could see a picture showing 1/32...1/16...1/8...it would help. I've looked at TW, BPS, Cabela's, etc & haven't found a site showing the actual sizes. Does anyone know where I might go online for this info?
  24. Anyone interested...I contacted Gamakatsu & they directed me to go to their online catalog...click on the type of fishing & it will display the hooks in their actual sizes.
  25. Thanks Jigfishn10...I had already found that one. But my buddy has Gamakatsu ewg worm hooks...Mustad mega bite for soft plastics...etc and there all mixed up. So he's looking for something online that shows a 1/0...2/0...etc. I told him each manufacture making fishing hooks has their version of a 1/0...2/0 & on. So that's what he's looking for. I told him to call BassPro or Cabela's...I'm sure either and/or both sell hook size charts.
