  1. Wait. So you did get one? Last I knew you were debating it. How does it compare to the GLX?
  2. No unfortunately the one I ordered was on backorder. They said it should ship out probably this upcoming week.
  3. Glad to hear that since I ordered a NRX in the power that I wanted.
  4. From what I'm reading it seems that St Croix runs on the heavy side of power. My opinion is Dobyns is towards the lighter side. What are your opinions of G Loomis?
  5. What kind of baitcast reel did you buy? Alot of times the less expensive ones can be more difficult to use. Not saying that is your problem.
  6. Casting in a smooth fluid motion is important too. Herky jerky casts tend to backlash. The wind is your friend too. Easier to cast with your back to the wind. But as the others said the spool tension knob is something your going to want to adjust.
  7. It really depends on how your fishing. Different types of lines will have different strengths/weaknesses. Fluorocarbon is a great line and I'm not opposed to straight fluoro. Some like braid with fluoro. Some applications call for straight braid.
  8. I just went out to the garage and played with the rod. So nice and light. And I like the extra length. I just need to have a conversation with the people over at Dobyns and see if this rod has enough backbone for those strong smallmouth. I'm confused what to do. Nothing like having a $350 rod that you're not sure how you'll use it
  9. Thank you very much. This is very confusing for a novice Dobyns guy. I hear great things about their rods.
  10. Okay I'm confused because when I read the rod descriptions on the Dobyns website it has the 734C as the Heavy action rod but the 735c is the Med Hvy/Extra fast tip. It seems like the 733 and the 735 are the same except the 5 has a extra fast tip. Is that correct?
  11. Thanks for your advice. I'm doing this blind.
  12. Mostly 1/4 and 3/8 ounce heads. You think it's too heavy of a rod. I liked the idea of the extra fast tip for those applications. 3.8" Keitech swimbaits.
  13. Yah 762s Interesting thought on the spybait. It would make for an expensive rod for that technique but I guess if they weren't willing to swap it out it would give me another use. I thought it could be my tube rod but I think it may be underpowered. I was also gonna give the NED rig a shot but I have other rods I could use.
  14. Let me preface this by saying I live in Michigan and fish Lk St Clair alot. My first Dobyns I bought was during the Black Friday sale I got a Champion Extreme 7'6" medium light spinning rod. I really like a longer rod to handle the runs smallmouth make at the boat. However Dobyns rods are on the lighter side of power. I still have the tags on it and haven't used it. I was considering contacting Dobyns and asking them if I could switch it out for a Champion 735C based on all the good things I've heard about that rod. Would that rod make a good Keitech swimbait and underspin rod? I've only done that with spinning gear in the past but thinking about switching over to casting gear.
  15. I own the 705CB. I haven't fished with it yet as I live in Michigan but it feels awesome.
  16. Maybe it was the version before that. I don't know it looks the same. my mistake it was the FH that was released in 2003.
  17. Your comparing a Cadillac and a Lexus. It would probably be 60-40 CI4 over FJ but you're talking about 2 solid reels. Can't go wrong with either. I have FJ's from 10 years ago that perform flawless. I can't comment to the CI4 as I have never owned one. Hear great things about them though.
  18. With a gift card and credit card points even a better deal for $35. Plus you can submit for a Abu Garcia sweatshirt too
  19. Are you calling me an ass
  20. You gotta be able to tolerate the Rages handle to make the deal worth it. I bought 2 and sold them both before I used them. Just my opinion but there probably better deals out there if you look hard enough. Saying that I own a Mojo and it's a nice rod.
  21. I was thinking about keeping a journal this year but this exact dilemma also crossed my mind. Let me know when you figure out the right answer Luckily I don't have any rod and reel combinations that are the same otherwise that would further complicate things.
  22. Unfortunately you have to go into the store. Not sure if you have one near you. You might want to call ahead and see what sizes they have left because at that price they are going fast.
  23. What about the Villian on sale at Bass Pro Shops for $79.97 right now? Normally $179.99. $79 qualifies you for a Abu Garcia sweatshirt for S&H costs.
  24. I think a President with a Mojo bass rod in either medium or medium heavy would make a fine spinning rod to fish a fluke. Really even a Triumph would work well for that.
  25. Dobyns 734C they have it in different models. Go touch a Fury if you can. You won't be going home alone.
