  1. You're right. I was just curious to why a fisherman would put more into the reel than the rod. There is no wrong or right answer but just wanted to start a debate.
  2. Never had an issue with the Palomar just wet your line before cinching.
  3. Tom not if you buy a good rod. I had a 10 year old IMX that I just snapped the tip on a week ago. For $100 I got a new $300 rod delivered to my door no questions asked. Something to be said for that kind of warranty.
  4. I'm thinking 12 pound would be what you want for the techniques you described. I use 6 pound test on spinning gear. And have had no issue catching 5 pound smallies. My issue is fluoro is expensive and needs to be changed out every few outings. But I'm one of those fools using straight fluorocarbon no braid.
  5. I'm thinking about switching over to all co-poly too. Have you used it on spinning gear yet?
  6. My bottom contact spinning rods new for this season are going to be an IMX 852s jwr, NRX 872s jwr and a DX 743sf. I bought 2 Stradic FJ from a buddy last year and had 2 FI's from previous years but I don't plan to upgrade my reels.
  7. Their good for sure but what EllisJuan said about Outdoor Pro Shop aka Monster Fishing Tackle is true. That line of rods is 30% off. Sign up for their mailing list and get another $25 off.
  8. EllisJuan your "slumming" rods are GLX's.
  9. I understand the reaction baits on a less expensive rod but you fish a Ned Rig on a baitcast setup? I thought that was more of a finesse setup like ML spinning rod.
  10. What do you mainly use this rod for?
  11. Seriously though I'd like to hear from the guys that fish a $300 reel on $100 rod and explain why. Not that you're wrong. I'd just like to hear your reasoning.
  12. EllisJuan knows his deals. It's all his fault I own a NRX.
  13. What model DX did you order? And I just bought a Villian. I'll trade you for any other DX's you don't want
  14. Haven't used the NRX yet. I picked up a e6x at Bass Pro Shops and I was pretty impressed.
  15. They say there is a big jump in sensitivity between the IMX and a GLX. I've fished an IMX but not a GLX. I have a new NRX in the garage that I haven't used yet. I'm sure the St Croix guys probably could relate it to their line of rods too. From what I understand at a certain point there is a diminished return in performance on the high end rods. I'll be honest the only reason I bought a NRX is because I got for a little over the IMX price. Maybe this will help clarify things to, I live in Michigan so many of my bottom contact rods are spinning rods. Most of moving baits I fish with baitcast rods but in my mind I don't need a sensitive rod for that. More for fishing a tube, drop shot, twin tail grub. Does that make sense? Why would I need a $300 baitcast reel to pull a spinnerbait?
  16. For example I bought a NRX recently. I have Stradic FJ reels. I don't understand the thought that I would need to put a Stella on there. FJ's are great reels.
  17. I've heard guys in my club and have read guys on here say, "I'd never spend X amount of money on a rod. If I was going spend that much money it would be on a reel". Granted maybe I fish more bottom contact lures but I'd rather invest more money in a rod than a reel. Explain to me what I'm missing about the other philosophy.
  18. Agreed but it takes $200 for free shipping. You might want to add a reel too.
  19. How much money ya bringing? That might help give you a few suggestions. And if you have $100 you might consider ordering a Daiwa Tatula 100 from Ebay.
  20. Nope. I can find the regular Tatula for less than the Dobyns Fury.
  21. Without regard to application who wins this rod war? I know it's a vague post just have fun with it. I curious if anyone owns both rods and can compare. I own 2 Furys and they feel great. I don't own a Tatula but have been tempted to buy one. Saying that I've been tempted to buy 90% of the rods out there
  22. The Tatula regular appears to be moderate fast. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Daiwa-TAT701MRB-Tatula-Rods-B-Cast/36009108 If this is the regular Tatula and not the Tatula X here is a great deal for you.
  23. You might be able to pair your reel with a Daiwa Tatula rod. You want the regular tip not the fast tip. I'm not exactly sure how regular compares to moderate.
  24. I know they are not high end reels but I bought 3 Tatula100 from Ebay. A 5,6,7 gear ratio. A good price is between $93 -$95 which is $50 less than MSRP. Saying that I haven't used them yet. Hopefully this weekend. The ice is off the lake on St Clair.
  25. I'd highly consider the warranty too. I had a decade old IMX that I accidentally snapped the tip this weekend for $100 I get a new rod shipped to my door.
