  1. The good news is you know you can sell your 13 Metanium for over $300 now if you choose to.
  2. I do think they could have made more of an effort to try to win over a customer. There were no different options given. $95 more take it or leave it.
  3. Based on this experience I'd say I'm probably done with Dobyns.
  4. Original value yes. But I bought mine on a black Friday sale through American Legacy.
  5. Right on! It's all about perspective. Worse case scenario I'll make it my light tube/spybait rod. It probably won't be a workhorse in my rod arsenal but will see spot duty. To me this is a high end rod maybe not to others that have a rod locker full of NRX'S. I really wanted it to be an everyday rod. I think that's what I'm most bummed about. I still have a Johnny Morris from 10 years ago that will probably be more of an everyday rod.
  6. I get it. I honestly didn't realize when I bought the rod it was due to model close out. I don't think there was anything advertised about that but maybe I'm wrong. All I know is if I bought a pair of pants from Macy's and they were on sale and I never put them on in 3 months and I lost/gained weight and all I wanted to do was exchange for another size they aren't making me pay the price difference. I guess I had unrealistic expectations.
  7. I have used 6 and 7 pound straight fluorocarbon on my reels without issue catching smalies up to 5 pounds. You just have to loosen the drag a bit and play the fish a little more. No swinging then on board like you southern guys do lol
  8. If you get the IMX buy from Outdoor Pro Shop. With the sale price and either using the 11spring16 code or joining the mailing list it brings your cost under $200 which is a great deal.
  9. Thanks for the responses guys, it also helps me see where they are coming from. Anybody know the average mark up on a rod?
  10. I'll be honest it makes me want to stick with Loomis.
  11. Thanks for the advice. Gonna give the rod a shot and hope it doesn't sit on the rod rack this summer. The DX was the most expensive rod I had bought until snagging a NRX during the Classic weekend at about 40% off.
  12. It seems like Mccoy is another one that people really like. Based on what I've read it appears Yozuri and Mccoy are the top 2.
  13. Maybe you're right. Maybe I should have pushed it more with American Legacy.
  14. Both. American Legacy said they couldn't do it because the model had changed but Dobyns I don't get that. I even told them I'm in a 30 member bass club. You think for exposure alone it would be worth it to them. Dobyns is not big in Michigan. In fact my closest retail stores within 50 miles are in another country...Canada
  15. Nope nothing to do with the rod condition. They would only credit what I paid. But I just wanted to switch for the same model. Yes the model has changed from last year to this year but I'm sure they could sell it for $50 less retail plus make a customer happy. I didn't think I was asking the impossible.
  16. I bought a Dobyns Champion Extreme online during the Black Friday sales. I got it for about $85 less than MSRP, not a steal but a deal. Anyways I bought it without touching first, my mistake, and let me preface this I've never experienced Dobyns rods before this. For those that don't know they run on the lighter side of power. I bought a ML spinning rod which would probably equate to a L power in some lines. Anyway before the season started I decided it's too light for my needs. For $340 a rod should feel right (once again my fault I didn't touch first). I called Dobyns customer service and at first they were willing to switch me out for a rod of different size and power. So I paid to ship the rod back. Today I get an email that they want an additional $95 to cover the difference in what I paid and the rods cost. I don't know if I'm being tacky but I just can't do it. The rod I sent back was unused with the original tags still on it I don't understand why I couldn't trade it out for what I wanted. I don't know if I'm being unrealistic but I'm a little disappointed in my first experience with Dobyns.
  17. So what type of line are you using then?
  18. That brings the NRX price down nicely.
  19. Ebay is a great place to look. I picked up new in box Daiwa Tatulas 100 in 5,6&7 gear ratios at about $94/reel. Maybe if you find a single seller that has all the gear ratios you want you could contact them and see if they would give you an additional discount. Plus Daiwa and Huk have a promotion going on. Got me some nice free swag to wear.
  20. This is the same store that EllisJuan has been telling people about the last month or so. The IMX, GLX and NRX are all on sale. Plus save another $25 joining the mailing list. I had ordered an NRX until I had buyers remorse and canceled because it was on backorder. Glad I did though as I got a better rod for less during the TW Classic weekend sale. I got my NRX about 40% off.
  21. Here's your rod right here G Loomis IMX MBR843C. Normally $295 sale price $221. Sign up for the news letter save another $25. Now you have a $300 budget for your reel. https://www.*.com/G-Loomis-IMX-MBR-Rods-p/g-loomis-imxmbr.htm?e=Y
  22. I agree with what you are saying but I wonder if all refractive indexes are the same? What is their QC process for tolerance? Good thinking though. I am a forensic scientist and that is one of the comparison tests they do for fiber analysis. Does it have the same refractive index?
  23. Thanks everyone. I bought both to try will post sometime later this fishing year. Still 3 months to go before the ice melts off the lakes in Michigan
  24. I have nothing to add to the conversation. Clever screen name though. Good luck with the information you seek
  25. It's a nice first day of spring here in Michigan 42 and sunny (almost summer temps here lol). So I broke out the new NRX and matched it with a Stradic FJ 2500. All I can say is wow. I've never felt a fishing rod like that before. I'm blown away and I haven't even tried it yet. Balances very well with the 2500 and light as a feather. I can't wait to take it on the water.
