Well I finally got around to spooling up 3 baitcast reels and 5 spinning reels today. Based on the consensus opinions on here I put Yozuri hybrid 10 pound line on my casting reels. It seems decent a few times I had to unwind the twist though. I put the Yozuri hybrid Ultra soft 6 pound test on my spinning reels. Initial thoughts are I really like the Ultra soft. We'll see how they fish but I might have at least found my new line for spinning reels. Anybody else using the Yozuri hybrid ultra soft on spinning reels?
How would you say the GLX compares to the NRX? I got an updated IMX through the Xpeditor-program. I like the size the NRX offers the 872s. The longer rod should be perfect for St Clair. I'd probably buy the GLX in a second if they offered the 872s.
Would it be worth looking at a JDM reel mainly for chucking and winding? I don't flip/pitch and I don't need a finesse reel. Is there something in the JDM market that I could put my toe in the JDM water? Basically looking to bomb long casts and less backlashes would be a bonus.
I'm okay with not spending the extra cash if you don't think there are any benefits.
You can find Daiwa Tatula 100's which have a $150 MSRP for about $94 on Ebay or Amazon. I bought 3 this offseason but have used 0 to give you any reviews yet. They seem to get good reviews.
I bought one too at the BPS in Michigan for the same cost. I got the same length but a ML. Feels decent I haven't had a chance to use it yet. Hopefully April will be the start of my season.
Many of you guys have mentioned making purchases of JDM items (rods/reels) which as of yesterday I didn't understand stood for Japanese Domestic Market (or merchandise). What are the advantages of buying JDM? Is it cheaper? Is it better made? It sounds there are warranty issues when you go that route.
Are you fishing with senkos? They are such a great starter bait. Really no wrong way to fish them. They are great for numbers with the occasional big fish.
I'll answer your question but also do a search on Copolymer lines. This question has come up alot lately.
Yozuri hybrid, Mccoy mean green, AN Silver thread
I bought 2 Rages and sold them both. I didn't like the handle. Some people hate it others love it. I'll be honest I had my Dobyns Fury 705CB out a few weeks back and I couldn't feel a difference between that and my Avid X. Granted this is playing in the yard not at the lake but I like the Fury at $100. And if you're using for reaction bites like cranks sensitivity is not a factor anyway.
Despite my customer service beef I'd consider the Dobyns Fury 705CB for your medium moderate action rod. It's rated as a medium heavy but feels more like a med. Good value for $109.99 and you can get it for cheaper signing up for a mailing list too.
Let me just say I have no motive in this. I would have made the same post being complimentary of their customer support had they swapped out the rod. As a consumer it's good to be informed. Once again maybe I had too high of or unrealistic expectations of Dobyns. They did offer to switch it out for a rod of my choosing. I probably also would have done it had my wife not had to quit her job for health reasons. I know tiny violins right?! But in all seriousness when you lose a good portion of your discretionary funds it makes you evaluate your purchases and adding almost another $100 for another rod I hadn't touched didn't seem like a wise move. Saying that I do think the 743s was going to work for me.
Dobyns has a store on their website that they sell refurbished rods. I saw a rod similar to mine except a medium instead of a ML they sold for $200 that had moderate use. Mine was new with tags. I'm thinking they could have got near $300 for it. At that price point what are they really losing?! Oh well I'm done with this thing. Hope to be fishing up here in early April.
