  1. Anytime the fish are feeding heavy on shad. I'd say a pretty effective bait spring thru fall.
  2. I have 2 nrx 872's and I fish St Clair. That is a fantastic rod. I'm not sure if I have gone much heavier than a 1/4 Oz weight though.
  3. I've never heard that I use my Boomerang tool for all types of line.
  4. Save your money and get the E6x. Swimbaits don't need to be thrown on a sensitive rod. You'll know when you have a bite.
  5. Best braid line cutter- Boomerang Tool Company hands down. Very much worth the $12.99 or so they charge for it.
  6. I used it in the first tournament of the year two years ago. It ended being a cold, calm morning. I was fishing a steady retrieve on a flat near spawning beds that the females had already spawned. I had my limit in the first hour of the morning and my boater talking to himself
  7. How did you swing that deal? It's settled then 1 NRX of every type
  8. Maybe consider getting the Fury 705cb for shallow and medium cranks and get the E6x and up it to a MH/MF for the swims and chatters. Just my $.02.
  9. Facing upward I mean. Thank you. Your explanation was very helpful. I was making them the same technique.
  10. I totally get what you're saying. Wait so you're supposed to pitch with your thumb up? I think I mainly kept the same hand position as the back handed cast. In fact I definitely mixed some of those in there when it was in the 50's last Saturday in Michigan
  11. Yes I was definitely pitching then. Are the rods the same that you use for pitching versus flipping?
  12. You have to forgive me. I'm a Yankee. I was born with a fairy wand in my hand. I use the terms pitching/flipping interchangeably but don't really know what they mean.
  13. Do yourself a favor and check out Sportsman's Outfitters and pick up the Daiwa Tatula that you want for $109 and free shipping which is a great deal. I hear you what your saying regarding the Mod Fast action and I agree. The Japanese call that their regular action rods. I throw my paddletail baits on the Daiwa Zillion 7'7" Medium regular. I would suggest you look at the Tatula in either the 7'7" medium or the 7'2" MH regular. All that for $1 under your hard cap Oh and I have the Fury 705CB rod. It's a nice lipless rod but it's a little flimsy for a swimbait.
  14. I'm looking to get started flipping. I practiced some over the weekend. It didn't go too badly. I would have 3 or 4 good flips in a row and then one would go 10 foot wide of the target. At this point I'm not fully all in I only want to use the 2 rods I have before I invest in a Flipping stick. Anyway, I have a Shimano Expride 7'2" HF frog rod and a Abu Veritas 7'6" MH fast rod. Which one sounds like the better rod to try to learn on?
  15. Are you rigged up straight?
  16. For the price point you're looking at check out the Daiwa Tatula 7'4" heavy frog rod. Also the Irod Genesis II as someone else suggested.
  17. Look into the neko rig too. A lot of others are choosing that over the shaky head rig.
  18. Nicely done. I'm a non-boater like you in a bass club. I have the same size bag. What I've figured out is I use a mixture of the Plano boxes and gallon sized zip-loc bags that consist of individual techniques. So I have one plastic bag for drop shots, one for senkos, one for crawdad lures, one for other worms. My 6 Plano boxes consist of tube baits with jigheads, top water, lipless cranks, mid depth cranks and deep diving cranks. The challenge is to figure out what to weed out and bring to the event. If I'm on fish in practice on tip water and drop shotting, I may leave the rest of my boxes at home but that comes with a risk. One of my boaters showed me a technique he uses to optimize his time on the water the day of the tournament. He has what he calls his "go box" what has back ups for all the lures he plans to throw that day including the terminal tackle. That way he's not wasting time digging through his boxes in storage.
  19. You can't go wrong with the Keitech Swing Impact Fat. But the one you suggested seems to have a lot of different colors on back order on TW which is a good sign.
  20. You don't have to but it will save you baits.
  21. Yes the half moon style are mainly what I have too. I ordered them off Ebay so no name brand.
  22. I watched a video with Paul Mueller and he uses the Decoy Big Bite finesse hook. He uses the 3/0 but I like the 2/0.
