  1. Logan, I'm interested in hearing how your club runs using boaters versus boaters and co-anglers versus co-anglers. We could post on here or private message or I'll give you my email address. Maybe I could get you to email me a copy of your club rules. I'm really interested in hearing the details of how you guys make it work from tournament points to payouts. Thanks in advance.
  2. They are coming to St. Clair this year. I thought about doing that.
  3. And then kicked everyone's butt on the BASS tour a few weeks back at Cherokee Lk. The dude has talent no doubt but that win surprised me. He seems to be in his essence when it's 85 degrees out throwing a frog in heavy lily pads not when its 40 using a spinning rod.
  4. You may be right but I thought you had "earn" your way through the next level down (Costa). But if you can actually just buy your way in, heck maybe I'll be a "pro" one day Yah Scott Martin he's another big name too but has sucked so far this season.
  5. Not saying they aren't good fisherman but there are a lot of names that are new. You usually say Canterbury, Rose, Thrift in the Top 10 of every event. KVD is good but he doesn't finish Top 10 in every event.
  6. Just curious to what is everyone's thoughts on why the bigger names have left FLW (Wheeler, Tharp, MDJ) in the past year or 2 to join BASS? I know they don't have to take a co-angler fishing so maybe that's what it's all about but the prize money seems about the same. Maybe it's exposure on the BASS trail, because watching FLW pretty intensely over the past year you realize that Bryan Thrift is probably one of the biggest names in fishing that the average fan has never heard of. The guy is in the Top 10 of nearly every event.
  7. I would find the best deal that you can on a Stradic FK either 2500 or 3000 reel (probably the 3000) since you fish bigger water and the rest is your rod budget. You should have around $350 left to spend on your rod. There's some amazing choices in the price range.
  8. Nobody really addressed this point you brought up. In my mind G Loomis sets the standard for power on rods, meaning that a medium is a true medium or they use 2 as their designation. If you get the IMX you'd probably want the last digit of the rod to be either a 3 or 4. The length of the rod is in inches therefore a 7' MH would be designated as 843.
  9. It really depends on how you want to fish. Personally, I think 30 is a bit on the heavy side but I'm more of a finesse guy. I have Sunline SX1 in 16 lb test on two of my rods and I bought a spool of the 12 lb to try for this year.
  10. Come on fellas if we're dreaming it's gotta be NRX and Megabass big like the above post. Furys, Tatulas, Mojos don't cut it
  11. Sorry to revive an old topic. What colors for the 120's are you using up north A-jay? Midnight Black II is a really intriguing color how does it work in clear water?
  12. Gamakatsu drop shot/split shot hooks in size 1 is my preference.
  13. If you have a lot of weeds where you are fishing look into the Neko rig too.
  14. It depends on the length and the power of the rod but for your average 7' Medium power rod I would go with the 2500. This is referring to Shimano reels I would assume Daiwa are similar size but I don't know that for sure. 3000 reels are good if you mix in some pike fishing too because you can bump up your line strength.
  15. I have twin daughters in college right now too so I can appreciate where you are at regarding purchases. I tend to research and over research all my purchases too hence why I commented on your post from a year ago.
  16. Is this a one day tournament or multi-day event? You may want to have a back up finesse set up in mind like a drop shot or a Neko rig for after those fish have seen crankbait after crankbait swim by.
  17. They make nice spybaits. That's the only product I've personally used.
  18. Thanks. Nice fish! I'm hoping to get a 6 this year.
  19. What size jerkbait are you starting the season with? Are you downsizing?
  20. Do a search on TW and type in swimbait heads there will be alot of choices for what you asked for. Read the reviews on there to determine what you want. Here's my search I'm not sure if this will work or not. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/searchresults.html#search=products&searchtext=Swimbait heads&opt_page=1&opt_sort=alphaAtoZ&opt_perpage=20
  21. I would think most of the time the fish probably can't even see the color on top. I think they're mostly just seeing the shiny flash of the chrome. Now saying that there will be days that chrome/black is better than chrome/blue but that's more about the lure matching what they are feeding on.
  22. Get some Poor Boy's Erie Darters, go with the 4". I bet those fish haven't seen alot of those where you're at. They are big in Ohio, Michigan and Indiana. I don't know what the heck they are supposed to represent, they work though.
  23. I consider myself more of a finesse fisherman also. You have to learn to drop-shot. Yamamoto shad shaped worms as @Darren. mentioned, Roboworms, Jackal Cross-Tail shad. Those 3 will give you a nice selection of baits to try for drop shotting.
  24. I ordered some of those centering pins over Ebay so I can attach them to any hook. It was like $4 for 25 from China.
