  1. I've been a long time Shimano reel guy specifically the Stradic line. I'm looking at something different and was considering trying out a Pfleuger spinning reel based on the great reviews. My question is the Supreme XT worth the extra money over the Supreme. Thanks for your thoughts.
  2. Are you fishing a professional or semi-pro series? That seems like overkill for fun fishing.
  3. And brother, you're living right!
  4. When I first read his post that was my response. I was calculating 14 Conquests + 14 fancy reels = more than my car
  5. Yes you are right that is a medium. If you look at their refurbished rods they do have several Savvy 703s for $100. That might be an option for you too.
  6. I think the 703 would be a MH power for Dobyns. They do tend to run on the lighter side of power but I'm not sure that would make a good drop shot rod.
  7. Good choice with the NRX 853c. Not sure what to think of the Enigma, it's a mystery....
  8. NRX had problems too. That's why they had to switch from the black and blue rod to the green rod. But all is well now. Maybe wait a minute until they can fix any potential QC issues before you buy one
  9. 10 to 12 pound should be fine. The challenge with thinner diameter is you need more line on your reel. If you want to go straight fluorocarbon I'd recommend 7 pound Sunline Sniper.
  10. I bought a few NRX rods when they were on sale a few years back. I keep one and sold one for about as much as I paid for it. They are nice rods. If it doesn't extend your budget go for it.
  11. Since its a sale the price difference shouldn't be as much. Go for it if you can afford to.
  12. The newly designed GLX is a very nice rod too. I have a GLX 892s and a NRX872s. I wouldn't say the NRX is $100 better.
  13. I have a NRX 872s and the new GLX 892s both are phenomenal rods.
  14. If I had to go no fluoro or braid I'd go..........home. Just kidding, add me to the P-Line co-polymer group.
  15. I don't know if I got wind knots or just a tangle but every once in a while I'd get a birdsnest off a cast and end up having to cut 20 feet of line off. Now the braid portion is too short. I have mono backing on my reel.
  16. A-Jay I have a mix of SX-1 hi vis yellow in 12 pound and Power Pro Slick in the 15. If no one has a good recommendation for me I think I'm just gonna up the SX-1 to the 16 pound test. I don't really see any advantages of using 12 pound. What pound test are you using?
  17. Okay guys I've had the same braid on a few of my spinning rods for the last 2 years and it's time to strip what's remaining. I'll probably looking at grabbing some during the TW Black Friday sale. For me I've determined that 15-16 pound test is what I like best. What brand do you guys recommend in that size test? Has there been any upgrades in braids the last 2 years?
  18. That explains why you are catching brutes. What part of Erie are you fishing?
  19. I have the Zillion 7'7"medium regular crankbait rod and I love it for that and as a Keitech rod on St Clair. For the price you mentioned great deal.
  20. Can't disagree with you there
  21. Yep I had 3 like that yesterday and trust me the 5's elude me. Special day!
  22. How big was your biggest? Guessing it was the one in your right hand.
  23. Here's another picture from yesterday. Only if all fishing days were that good but it's what keeps us going right?!
  24. Had my personal best today on St Clair, 3 fish over 5 pounds and 2 around 4. 23 pound bag and all on Ned rigs.
  25. Since you're from Wisconsin if you're within driving range head over to the St Croix facility and you'll be able to acquire discounted St Croix rods.
