  1. Dobyns rods are slightly under power. If in doubt go heavier. I have the Fury 705CB rod. It's a nice rod for the price.
  2. Anybody know anything about this one? http://tackletrap.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1066_2409_2411&products_id=10660
  3. My buddy is looking to get a Megabass Orochi spinning rod on sale. I see most places are sold out. Anybody know any websites that still have any?
  4. Fast or extra fast should be okay
  5. Medium rod for sure. It's a little over your price range but I like the NRX 872s as my drop shot rod. You should probably see what Daiwa or Dobyns rod fits your wallet.
  6. I've had a few experiences myself. It's been nothing but first rate.
  7. What's your budget? That will help us give you some ideas.
  8. I'm not familiar with a moderate action being utilized for drop shots. I use that technique a lot and I'm using either fast or extra fast action rods. Now for crankbaits depending on what type of line you are using a moderate action rod comes in handy from pulling hooks. If you are familiar with the bend from a moderate rod it's more in the middle of the rod where fast and extra fast are more at the tip so more of a direct response on the lure when you set the hook. I hope this helps.
  9. Dobyns Fury and a Pfleuger President. And you even have enough left for a spot of 15 pound braid.
  10. I bought 2 NRX's two years ago when they were on sale. I kept 1 and sold the other for what I paid for it. Once you use a rod like that it spoils you. I was okay with Johnny Morris rods prior but after fishing a NRX I wanted to throw my Carbonlite in the trash. Like the others have said fish what you can afford to buy.
  11. I had one spinning set rod set up with the hi-vis yellow SX1 with a fluoro leader. It was okay but I'm not much of a line watcher so I don't see the point. I'm changing that line out for next season. I just went with the green 832.
  12. You don't need a guide I can provide you with enough information for you to have a good time. Unless you don't want to tow a boat up here I could definitely point you towards a guide also.
  13. Get a nice spinning rod for a Ned rig rod and drop shot rod. I catch way more fish on that set up.
  14. I catch so many bass on a drop shot and a Ned rig. My last day fishing this past season I caught 3 SM over 5 pounds and 23 pounds total all on a Ned. Most of the time I just cast it out and let it sit. Keep in mind what makes it unique with a TRD worm is that the worm floats up and looks like a defenseless minnow feeding on the bottom. Hope these tips help. I catch a lot of LM on a Ned. Stick with it you'll catch them too.
  15. To each their own, my sweet spot is between 7'3" and 7'5".
  16. @roadwarrior thank you for the braid you mailed me. If you ever make a trip to St Clair even though I don't own a boat I can put you on information. Early May is usually a great time to come for the spring pigs. All just depends on the water clarity and wind speeds.
  17. Whatever you do especially with having a sprained wrist don't throw a Ned rig or you may wear it out more
  18. Welcome back. Now get commenting
  19. Always a thread that was equivalent to a doctoral thesis. Plus if you lived near him he'd offer to check out his equipment or take you fishing.
  20. Just wondering if forum member @fishnkamp is okay? He used to comment a lot on this page and give great advice. Maybe he's just taking a break but hopefully everything is okay. If anyone knows him personally ask him to check in.
  21. Are you cleaning out your garage or do you have some extra unused spools of braid that you're looking to get rid of? I'm looking for some in the 15ish pound range. I can send you my address too
  22. Thanks for the opinions guys. I'll probably just stick with my Shimano Stradics.
  23. I believe the camera guy is the Marshal. Just need someone out with them to ensure the integrity of the sport fishing for $100,000.
  24. I did this last year. The advantage of signing up early is that you have a better chance of getting a 3rd day. The 4th day is based on how much you blog.
  25. It's the same as last year I see 2 more big names moving over from FLW. Shin Fukae and Wesley Strader. Going be no big names left soon.
