I'm not sure what level of enthusiast you are but I'd say it's a nice mid level set up. After using a G Loomis NRX for a while and then switching back to the Carbonlite 1.0 I wanted to toss it in the trash. Yes it's a good deal for the price.
I don't like it. But I also didn't put line conditioner on and do a little dance and whatever else makes it work for others. If P-line CX worksfor you why change?
If you have $180 to spend on the rod. Wait out a TW sale and pick up a St Croix Avid or Avid X. I'd say ML or M at most. St Croix runs on the heavy side of power. FYI Dobyns runs on the lighter side of power.
That's tough to answer because rods 2 & 3 probably would be best suited as casting rods. I think for rod 1 you are looking for a short rod 6'6" to 6'10". I'd say ML to M power at most.
Dude I'm from Michigan near St Clair but I know what those Northern Michigan Lakes are like. Deep and ultra clear. You're better off with a spinning rod and light line but to each his own. @A-Jay is a northern Michigan bass expert. Follow this guys posts and you'll be on em in no time.
It seems like the Japanese rod companies have a good handle on the finesse market. Give a good consideration to the Daiwa Elite rods, Megabass (the Levante spinning rod gets good reviews on TW even though the same isn't true of the casting rod) and @WRBTom seems to always recommend Major Craft rods.
This is coming from someone who was 100% spinning rods until the last few years. Get yourself a nice 6'8" to 7'2" Medium or medium light fast or extra fast action rod.
I would think you'd be more likely to experience a stress break in extreme cold weather but what do I know. I guess this would be a question for someone from Loomis or Shimano.
I believe demo rods are rods that are brought to fishing shows and the like and have been thoroughly handled. As far as I understand the full warranty still applies. It's a nice way to get a high end rod at a discount.
I wouldn't eliminate G Loomis GLX rods too if I were you. Check out The Tackle Trap and you may find demo rod for a great price. I like my newly designed GLX 892s.
I have my rods in the garage right now but it's been such a cold winter I'm considering moving them downstairs in the basement. Anybody have any evidence that the cold temps are bad for my rods?
Keep a separate reel with heavy braid (65 to 80 pound test) and you're good to go. If you like froggin' then you might want to get another rod at that point.
