  1. He was my fav . player. I was also watching live when he hit # 715. I was 14 years old then. I still consider him the valid home run king. A lot of people dont realize this, but he is the Rbi and total bases leader also. I think he is third in hits. Not a flashy player , but one of the top 5 batters of all time.
  2. They always are, but the water clarity is moderately clear.
  3. Got me some more copperheads today for my superviser at work. He’s bringing me some of his collard greens...his are the best Ive ever eaten, including those Ive grown...
  4. Great suggestions. Thanks !
  5. I have never fished with one. As some of you know, my home lake is shallow, averaging 4-5 feet deep. It also has a lot of eel grass, which makes it difficult to use anything with treble hooks exposed, or any bait that runs even moderately deep. What do y’all suggest for a squarebill in my situation? I doubt if these fish have ever seen one... so they might be all over it.
  6. If Im out for the day, I start with a breakfast sammich, then usually a ham or turkey one for lunch ,peanuts, a snicker bar, waters , and a coke zero for the drive home.
  7. They were great this year but not the greatest ever. Defense wasnt near one of their best ones. We got 46 on them to keep it somewhat close anyway.?
  8. Yours is 1 oz off my PB . What did you catch it on ?
  9. You can leave a note at least if you go to the funeral home site Glenn posted. I was wondering... Thanks for posting this Glenn. I felt O.N was a friend, even though we never met in person. Would loved to have wet a line with him. Loved his comments on fishing , faith , and family! Prayers to his family ( lifting was the way he said it )
  10. I had a garlic based scent I used once. After the 3-4 th fish picked it up and spit it out I quit using it.
  11. They should separate news from spin and opinion. All the spin started when news became 24 hours a day stations. It used to be local news at 6 , national at 6:30, and local news at 11. That was it, except for 60 minutes which was more on the opinion side I thought. When news stations started being 24 hours is when they had to come up with stuff to fill in the time. That’s when fact became opinion and opinion became fact. Im sure it’s much deeper than that but that’s where it seemed to start...
  12. I quit watching all Tv “news”. We still have basic cable but I probably watch the insp. channel 90 % of the time to catch the westerns. I watch mountain men and the swamp people shows and thats it for “ reality “ shows. I listen to our talk news radio station and can stomach about 5 minutes before I get mad and turn it off. Ive been off facebook for years, much better off. I do get drawn into you tube videos and comments... Im really trying to limit that. I have enough trouble with MYSELF, to worry about things I can’t change. Tired of being lied to. I figure if something real actually happens, I’ll eventually find out!?
  13. Folgers classic roast usually. Black with nothing in it. I run it through a keurig. We have the little cup that I spoon it into. Saves money from using the keurig ones. I like most black coffee in general. There is a local store that has ground coffee and I cant stand the taste of it. I dont like starbucks either. I occasionally have a cappochino, usually french vanilla ,pumpkin spice or chai Lottay.
  14. Welcome to the forums ! I have fished mostly between Ocala and the Fl/ Ga. line, and mostly east coast saltwater.
  15. You just described my home lake.
  16. I fish both , but fish the trick worm more. I dont do well with the magnum finesse worms for some reason. Ive done good with the trick worms., especially june bug, watermelon red and watermelon seed colors. I generally catch smaller fish with the finesse worm I fish trick worms with a 3/0 hook , wide gap or straight shank , and either weightless or with a bb shot. I go to a 2/0 with finesse worms...
  17. I love fishing slow when they bite that way! When they aren’t active due to cold , I try to slow down even more. You can never tell how they’ll bite though. Cold fronts really slow things down here, but I caught a 6.3 blazing a spinnerbait along my bulkhead on a christmas day in .december . I caught one the other day pulling a senko over a grass bed . The bite has been slowwww the last 3 weeks or so.
  18. Shoot. We can just barely afford keeping the weeds under control. If everyone on the lake would pay their dues we might be able to afford it.
  19. That’s a good idea. I know they do Electro shocking on selected lakes. It’s doubtful they’d be interested in mine but it’s worth looking into !
  20. Is there any chain pickeral in there? Mudfish can be real agressive too. I dont think it was a gar- Ive never had one hit a moving bait of any kind.
  21. Thanks for the replies. I already stocked carp in my lake. They are the state- allowed triploid grass carp. You must get a permit to stock them and they must be confined to the water body they are stocked in. They are largely near the surface and you can get fairly close to them in a jonboat. But they go crazy when they realize you’re there. I have a lot of eel grass but other than that not much cover.. As far as other people keeping the fish , it is very doubtful. I personally know a lot of the residents ( theres 83 houses all the way around the lake ) . Im also the lake association director, so I have more contact that way too. The basic discussion I have with them is they ask “ Is there any fish in the lake ? Then they want to know what kind. Right there I know they have no clue about bass , much less how to catch them. One guy even asked me if it was fresh or saltwater ?. Im on the lake a lot. I almost never see anyone fishing in a boat or the bank. The ones that do dont seem very good at it, unless they’re pretending to be novices by using push button reels with corks , swivels , and a big hook with a lone earthworm hooked 10 times. Some people would say the answer to the mystery is the big fish have seen your go -to baits too much. I agree - thats why me and my 2 friends I let fish there use a wide variety of baits and presentations. I even caught shiners and threw them out several times with no result. Did catch one fairly recently that was pushing 4 on a small bream...
  22. Yeah , the residents are always after me to trap the nutrias, but they dont care about the stupid domesticated geese and ducks somebody put in. Lord knows we have enough canadian geese and mallards without putting more in. Hopefully , snapping turtles, hawks, and owls will keep the numbers down some...
  23. I havent seen any of there poop, . I do see nutria poop at my landing frequently. I trap them and remove to an undisclosed location. ? I dont even know that I have otters. when one shows up, I usually see it pretty quick because Im on the water so much. My friends that said they saw them were sure that’s what they were. Im doubtful. I see nutrias a lot and to me , it’s easy to tell the difference. Im not so sure my friends know the difference. As far as thinning the bass herd, I do that . I get a lot more healthy fish than skinny . Got a fair to good forage base in the lake .Im thinking that fish might have been gut hooked in the past , and maybe had some injury from it. What I cant figure out is where all the big bass went. I have managed the lake for years to keep good numbers and bigger fish. Ive released every fish over 16 inches except the rare fish that had gill damage from the hook and died ... Mysterious conditions at the moment...
  24. Ok . I have an ulterior motive to discuss about otters. I was getting more and bigger bass every year in my home lake. Then last year it started going backward. I do 95% of the fishing on the lake , so Im sure nobody is catching and keeping all the big bass. The only answer to the mystery that makes any sense is otters. There is no way the bass went anywhere- the outlets are way too shallow most of the year . They really arent outlets but INLETS into the lake. Even if the water stayed high enough for them to leave, the outlets dont go anywhere- the fish would have to come back or die. We havent had a gator in the lake in a while now either. We have fish eating birds but none more than 2 years ago when I was catching 7-8 pounders. I even had a couple big bass hunter friends come in 3 times this year and couldn’t even catch a 3 pounder yet, using different baits than I usually fish. Another weird thing is I still catch catfish. Otters ate my catfish last time they came but I still had a good population of big bass then. So Im scratching my head trying to figure this out. It doesn’t make any sense. Biggest bass last year.: 4 pounds 10 oz. Way down from the last few years biggest fish.
  25. Come on, and bring turtleman while you’re at it. He may need work since his show is canceled.?Yee Yee ! Live action! I cant gaurantee a 10 pounder but you’ll have fun trying!
