  1. I do consulting for that in florida. I dont know anything about grass in Iowa but it may be fescue. I would sod if you can instead of seeding. My son lived in Omaha for awhile, and it had a lot of clay and kind of rocky soil if I remember correctly. So if it’s like that where you are you definitely want to till it first, rake it level ,remove weeds, old grass, rocks, roots as you go. Then get an edge around the whole perimeter so the sod fits in when its layed and the roots are not exposed. All the sod in the interior fits together so the roots wont be exposed there if it’s level.
  2. Where are you? Ive done lawn repair and care etc for most of my life...
  3. Same here. I can buy 5-6 packs of ZOOM anything ( 10 per pack ) for 25.00 . ?
  4. I mainly shop at Academy, and they have been understocked lately. The best wal mart near me for fishing stuff has been the same, even though they have a knowledgeable bass fisherman running the sporting goods dept. He’s telling me people are just buying everything up...
  5. when I set the hook on a larger bass, They nearly always try to jump. I try real hard to not let em by lowering the rod . So I initially cant tell if it’s REAL big, but I have a general idea. I caught a 7 pounder once that felt like reeling in a deflated basketball. It didnt fight at all. I think it was too full with all the shiners and bream it had ate to fight. I caught an 8 pounder once that I thought was a 4 pounder until I lifted it out of the water. Ive also caught 4-5 pounders that I thought were much bigger. I dont know if fish have some degree of personality but it sure seems that way sometimes...
  6. I use a 4/0 heavy wide gap gammy hook. I use no weight with mine , because I can cast it pretty far , and it sinks fast enough for my situation. I catch nearly all my fish swimming it. It is # 1 on big fish producers for me this year. I dont know what they call the color specifically, but it’s half june bug and half pumpkin. I’ll also try leaving the tentacle on next time...
  7. I use the rage tail cut-r . It has the little tentacle attached. I always take it off. I catch bigger fish on the cut-r ,not numbers.
  8. Got out for a couple hours before dark. I got a 4 pounder and another decent fish on the rage tail cut-r
  9. Another pond, another Gator. @John Dingman Sr. You can do it two ways. The easy way is to find a picture re-sizer app and download it onto your device. I downsize mine to 50% size and it works fine every time. Then come here and click on add files- photo library, and pick the picture you just resized. The other way takes twice as long . Try the easy way first.?
  10. Im glad she seems to be doing better. I like this video of them 30 + years ago.
  11. When you went in his house he had nearly every kind of florida wildlife on his wall. Gator hide, and claws, rattlesnake skin, mounted bobcat, Big bass, deer antlers everywhere , turkey mounts. No rare florida panthers though, thank God!
  12. Ha- I had friends growing up that lived self sufficient. One of them had cattle, a big garden, A huge chicken coop, 2 fish ponds, and they killed several deer a year. They were some healthy folks! Another one got whatever he shot , caught or trapped. I mean anything from bears to gator .One time he shot and ate a woodpecker and said it was tough . ?
  13. Ive got some huge stocked grass carp in my lake. Would anyone believe me if I said one of them looks like its 5 feet long? These carp wont bite anything- corn or bread balls. I finally snagged one and it was 23 pounds- only a year after we put them in weighing 1 pound... That was at least 5 years ago... Im afraid of snagging one now because they would destroy anything Id catch them on, except maybe a couple of my biggest saltwater combos. Got quite a ride from the 23 pounder !
  14. The little bucks are doing that up close to the bank on my lake. Waiting for big mama to come by... One is locked onto a bed halfway under my boat. The bream are driving him nuts trying to run them off . Not sure of the water temp at the moment but its most likely around 70 here. These fish are real aggressive and easy to catch for me with any soft plastic. I usually leave em alone and let em do their thing.
  15. My picture above was around 15-20 miles WEST of st. augustine.
  16. Pictures like this are getting less and less common around here...
