  1. My best friend I ever had in this life died on my birthday last year of delta covid. Among a lot of other things he did for me and others , he was my S. school mens class teacher. Since he passed, I became the teacher. I’m trying to implement the love he showed to me by doing that for the men in the class. I try to reach out during the week to encourage , strengthen them, or just listen. More than half our class are former addicts( like me ), so we need a lot of encouragement. Great post.
  2. I’m a freedom lover, and hate restrictive new laws. But I’d have to agree with you on this one !
  3. Good grief . Glad I live in Florida …
  4. Good to see you back on some fish! I got a couple as the sun went down on the watermelon seed super fluke. The high south winds were blowing right into our little end of the lake canal. It had blown a mat of pollen up in there. When I threw the fluke up on the mat , and dragged it off the edge… BOOM.. Suprised that I didn’t catch more !
  5. We are getting 30 + winds already.
  6. I took my middle son camping and fishing once and I was ready to get on the water at daybreak. He didn’t want to get up yet so I went out anyway . As I pulled into a little cove , a nice fish blew up over by some cypress trees. I killed the motor and reached for my rod. But my son’s combo was tangled up in mine and I basically threw it overboard. It was still cold water being early april and I had forgotten an anchor that trip. I tried to keep the boat on the spot with a paddle while deciding what to do. I took off my flannel shirt , and went overboard , hanging onto the boat. I could just barely touch bottom . I said a prayer and started walking around . In about 5 minutes I stepped on the combo. I had to go underwater but I got it! We preceded to catch 12 bass that day!
  7. My company tried to order me a new work truck but the one they want isn’t available until fall…That’s hard to believe…
  8. We used to camp and fish in there a lot. One time I had my wife with me. We were just north of north grasshopper lake camping . I had run a trotline the night before and caught some nice catfish. My wife had caught her pb bass that was around 4 pounds. We were packing up to leave and here comes 3 rough looking characters on dirt bikes. I went around to the other side of the truck, where my pistol ( and wife ) were. They kept making small talk and something just didnt seem right. But because I had the truck between me and them and never moved , they finally moved on. They never knew, but I had my pistol in hand not visible behind the truck. Maybe it was nothing, I’ll never know…
  9. I caught that first fish twice in 10 minutes!
  10. I got asked once if I wanted to yak a bloody bonito out for shark in a fairly rough surf at night… I passed on that. Even though wade fishing in gator infested waters doesn’t bother me … go figure. Well, that time I was fixing to be useless permanently WITH it…
  11. Got a couple fish 20 inch + on little bream. Sometimes I get lazy and just like sitting on the dock with a live bait out while I catch bream. That 2nd fish is probably the skinniest fish for its length I’ve ever caught!
  12. I nearly drowned once after getting caught in an undertow while surf fishing. Even though I was about to go under , I never let go of my rod. I somehow swam out of it with my legs and one arm. Ive been caught in some very bad thunderstorms with lightning all around. Probably the most scared I ever was , was when the side of my bass boat cracked from top to bottom after hitting a big wave on lake George. I thought the crack would continue across the bottom of the boat, but thankfully, it didn’t. Getting a hook in my eye was pretty traumatic too. ?
  13. When I was a teen, I somehow discovered that some of the biggest bass in the lake stayed in the deepest hole in the middle of the day during summer. Id anchor the boat and toss mann’s Jelly worms into the hole and never move them , just let them sink to the bottom and wait as long as I could stand it. I caught several over 6 that way. One of the fish bit after 15 minutes of waiting ! That’s pretty unconventional!!
  14. At least it was cloudy! Thats my philosophy too. They have to eat sometime , even in unfavorable conditions! Nice fish !
  15. Sorry to hear that but very thankful you’re stable. Prayers for a successful recovery!
  16. Ive caught some big fish in July in the middle of the day , when it was very hot and still … I caught a 4 pounder on a doughball fishing for catfish. Ive also caught bass with dead cut pieces of shiners while also fishing for catfish. I’m sure there’s something involving artificial baits too but nothing comes to mind…
  17. North winds and west winds come with cold fronts here…and the fronts are usually done with their influence in 3 days here.
  18. The best numbers day I ever had for bass was on a strong west wind. I don’t recall ever having a problem catching fish on an east wind though. A southwest wind in saltwater here is always bad fishing though.
  19. I’ve completely changed since I was a teen. Back then, it was late to bed late to rise. Now it’s the exact opposite. Not sure how wise Ive become though! Sunday to friday, I usually am in bed by 10-11, and up between 5:30- 6. I get up usually once a night to pee. My wife has some health issues that makes her get up off and on throughout the night- and she wakes me up nearly every time. At least it’s no worse than her snoring? . On friday night I go to bed at 7:30, and get up at 10:30 to be at my all night security job by midnight. I come home at 8 a.m , go to bed at 9 , and wake up around 11.30. Usually am back in bed by 9 on saturday night…
  20. I’ve lived on a small lake for almost 15 years now. Ive fished the lake since I was 14 though, having grown up just down the road from the other end of the lake. I have no complaints. I fish more overall, because it saves time walking 35 feet from the back door to the dock and boats, instead of trailering a boat 1-2 hours away , esp. with gas prices like they are. We paid 283,000 for it, and it has amenities , a pool, a big open shed on a slab, the lake of course, house was added to before and after we moved in, and the most important thing- my wife loved it! And it’s not far from conveniences. ( which I would gladly give up to live further out ) The house is old though, and has a lot of needs, which I can’t afford to fix anyway- which gives me time for more fishing.? It hasnt completely stopped me from fishing other areas but the fishing has traditionally been so good in my lake It’s easier just to fish there. I did probably 95% of all the fishing on the lake until 3 years ago. Now there’s more people fishing than ever, so the fishing has declined some… But still the large majority of those living on the lake never use it. I dont understand that… I agree with that. But I don’t understand it…
  21. Got out after 4:30 yesterday. Had high hopes because of the warmer weather and near full moon. I had “one of those days”. The first thing was that a fish picked up my culprit worm as I was messing with another combo. It wasnt long, but he went through 3 different little brush piles near each other before I realized it. It took me probably 10 minutes to finally get my bait back. Then , as I was a little aggravated about that , I cast without looking up and the bait got hung on an overhanging limb. I pulled and pulled, and it broke off and plopped into the water. I ended up with 5-6, but the pictured fish was the biggest. As It got dark I began to head for home from the other end of the lake. My trolling motor went slower, and slower , then was just barely pushing the boat. ( Even though the battery was fully charged, or so I thought) . ( I Dont use an outboard in my lake) In my haste to get out , I had forgotten a paddle! So I got out on the island, got a big pine limb, and used it to eventually get home. It worked about 1/3 as good as a real paddle. That being said, can’t wait to get out again!
  22. I would much rather have the extra time in the evening. That being said… I dont have any problem adjusting to springing forward an hour though. I just go to bed an hour earlier that night …??‍♂️
  23. Maybe it’s scratched or dented somewhere…?
  24. Docks are always good here. Better in warm/hot weather after 10 a.m though.
