  1. Florida ! ? I've only fished in 3 other states in my life. Georgia and the Carolinas.
  2. Lots of choices ? I'll probably start with a couple of the less expensive ones and see how they do.
  3. Pond fishing has been slow. I tried a new one yesterday off racetrack road yesterday with no results.
  4. I've heard of the term before from reading somewhere, but never heard them called that from fishing buddies or at bait stores, either backwoods ones or closer to cities.Maybe it's more of a south Florida thing. I don't think live ones get used as much as before, they are real expensive ,unless you catch your own ( which I usually do ). But a bass cannot resist them ! That's why I want to try the shiner swimbait.
  5. I've never heard anyone call em a roach here. Only shiners. How would you work these baits ? I have only used the small Swimbaits that you basically just cast and retrieve. I've been with a friend that used them and he did everything except dead stick em.
  6. I can see where an LSU fan would think so !?Fournette is my favorite player because he is an intense competitor on the field and seems like a quality person off the field. I often tell people about when he sold a jersey and donated it to help flood victims in SC. He's the one player I'd care to meet someday. He actually got rear ended the other day and ended up signing the guy's bumper that fell off. Thankfully he didn't seem to be injured.
  7. What's your favorite ? I've heard the live target one is good. A friend had one but I didn't hear of him catching much on it. But that thing looks real! We have a lot of wild shiners around here, the bass can't resist them , so I'd like to try one this year. How have y'all done with them ?
  8. I have to root for the home team ( jags ). Very torn on the other game. 50-50. Guess I'll go with the Eagles because if they win , the Super bowl won't be dominated by Viking fans up there.
  9. The 2 closest bps stores to me are 1.5 and 2 hours away, so that limits my trips there to maybe once a year. The first time I ever went in one (Savannah) I literally could not leave. After 2-3 hours my wife finally asked if we could please leave. When I go there, I usually get a hat or shirt , maybe a pack of plastics. It's fun to look at all the stuff but I don't buy much. I'm old fashioned. I can't remember ever ordering anything on line except a pair of boots once. My local wal mart has almost everything I normally fish with anyway. If they don't, I treat myself to the great selection at Academy or dsg.
  10. I did well last spring with a small strike king spinnerbait. Gold Colorado blade with a yellow skirt. This year I plan to experiment with gold willow blades and white/chartreuse skirts. For this old plastics fisherman, this is greatly expanding my horizons! Same here^^^
  11. I caught a good number of fish on spinnerbaits this year . Caught more on them this year than all my other bass fishing years combined. But it was a spring and early summer thing. After May, not ONE fish on them. I just watched a good Scott Martin video on spinnerbaits that made me eager to implement some of his tips in spring.
  12. 8.6 pounds , caught on a 4 inch red w/black watermelon GY senko.
  13. Had an hour before dark. Went out and caught a few nice bream off the dock. Nice, cool evening after a COLD few days.
  14. We put in at oak harbor sometimes. My son caught 20 last week before this last cold snap up at nassau sound.
  15. My son and me do saltwater too. Mostly for Reds, sheephead , flounder and black drum. I also fish for whiting , croakers, etc. when the others are slow. I also love surf fishing.
  16. It's looking better for this weekend. The bass fishing will probably be slow , but they gotta eat sometime!! Good time of year for sheephead fishing though ?.
  17. I have some Mann's jelly worms left over from the late 70s - early 80s. They are mostly all black with a few 6 inch grape ones mixed in. I have been slowly using them but I will stop when I get down to the last few. Also have some culprits from the 80s that I occasionally use. It's fun to use them because it is a way to re-live the past , it just is a connection to those good ol days as a teen when I fished nearly every day, and with some of the worms from the very same packs I had then. I need to come up with some kind of display case or maybe a board to retire some of them for good.
  18. Nice one !
  19. Im on the Southside too, about the same distance from downtown. Haven't gone much in 2 weeks now. Getting caught up on projects while it's cold.
  20. What part of town ?
  21. I also did a lot of salt water casting with heavy weight when I was young , so any lure that's heavy , or a heavier combo gets thrown with 2 hands. If it's a lighter bait on a lighter combo , I usually use one hand. For me , the one- hand motion is similar to when I threw a curveball in baseball. I dont use baitcasting as much as spinning though ,because I broke my right thumb near the wrist when I was 19. With 2 hands or one , I get a lot of pain with the wrist torque involved with bait casters. So I mostly use spinning , which I can do all day with no pain.
