  1. All great advice. I went from braid to straight 12lb fluoro and that helped. I went from a 4 power to a 3 power with a better blank material and that really helped. I never liked the line on the finger thing, but it did help. I also weigh my line before I twitch it off bottom. I started using bigger EWG's that make it harder for them to swallow so I match the hook size to the length of the bait. For wacky I use jig heads with EWG's. I haven't gut hooked a fish on a Senko in a few years now.
  2. If you don't have a lot of money then buy a small amount of nice stuff and not a ton of crap.
  3. I use Canadian night crawlers on a Carolina Rig in summer. I rig them with a small tail treble hook with a long sewing needle and inflate them with a syringe so they float. For the most part I just dead stick it. This is a very common trout rig, but it catches bass.
  4. I have used Tatsu down to Stren Fluorocast and if you are matching line diameter with a compatible weight it's very hard to tell the difference. Like if you're throwing 1/8oz on 6lb brand isn't going to matter. It's when you throw 1/8oz on 15lb that the high dollar stuff stands above. Tatsu can be worth the price of admission or a waste of money. It depends on what you are asking of it.
  5. I do between 8 and 10 up front and usually 4 in the back.
  6. I think GYBC is overpriced, but their California Roll is an extremely good Neko rig bait.
  7. Have between 3/4 and 1.5 and let the cover tell you what it wants. For simplicity anything made by Gambler is a good punch bait.
  8. http://www.***.com/Lamiglas_Infinity_Bass_Casting_Rod/descpage-LIBC.html In the 7'2" MedLt / 723 model. It's my dedicated Senko rod. It has the tip to throw them a mile weightless and it has the back bone to bury a 5/0 hook. It would be a very good spinner bait rod too. I could see it throwing square bills very good as well. It's right in the top of your price point but it's hand made in America an extremely versatile rod. I think the 3/4oz rating is low.
  9. I've used 12lb with my Senkos forever and I only run a 5/0 EWG with them. With fluoro's low visibility in the water going up one size wouldn't matter and will give you some extra confidence driving the hook home.
  10. I've got about a 50/50 between red and silver split on my spinnerbait trailer hooks and I haven't noticed anything that I would consider a difference.
  11. You'll be fine, just adjust your drag to a point where your hook won't bend out.
  12. OK, and Chevy sold more Cavaliers than Corvettes. Your point?
  13. I have a Citrix casting rod I throw spy baits on and if I remember right it is an IM8 which is no slouch. It has considerably less power than the Helios of the same size, action, and power, but still an extremely good value for the price tag.
  14. If you are running a straight shank up against a sinker use a Snell. The hookup ratio is tremendous.
  15. That's kind of like asking what go-cart is best to drive in Formula 1. There really is no advantage in any technique fishing mono over braid or fluoro. We used to use analog gyros and true north azimuth to guide rockets and missiles. It worked-ish, but digital GPS is so much easier and more accurate. I know, I'm a rocket surgeon. It's the same concept with line. Step into the future and never look back.
  16. Jig rig and as a jig trailer when they are bedding.
  17. I have a Pro-X 735 that I use for frogs. I'd like something a little longer for rigs if possible.
  18. Black/blue, craw, green pumpkin, and PB&J are the four colors I own. Swim jigs are white/black, black/blue, bluegill, and orange/purple.
  19. A jig rig ranging from 1/8 to 3/4 with a 3/0 Gammy Superline EWG. Up to 1/2oz in open water the rod is a Phenix UMBX 707ML with a Lews Lite reel, 30lb PP w/15lb fluoro leader. From 1/2oz and up in cover or in really rocky structure it's a UMBX 707MH with the same reel and line. There are about 2,000 craw baits in a range of sizes that will all catch the same fish. Pick the one that makes you warm and fuzzy and use it.
  20. I never get to actually handle rods so I just buy on what models I like, but I can't decide on a C-rig rod. I'll be throwing between 1/2 and 1oz steel with a bead, two swivels, and a big plastic. I'm between 3: Phenix UMBX 707H, Loomis GLX 875, Dobyns DX 784ML. What would you guys recommend?
  21. I use them on a jig rig and have really good success with them. I wouldn't say they outfish anything from Rage, Gambler, Paca, (insert whoever you want). The one thing I really like it they have a bigger profile than all the similar baits in the class so they actually have a reason to exist.
