  1. You have two types; salt core and non-salt core. Salt cores sink faster, are generally softer, but tear up quicker. Non-salt cores are the opposite. It doesn't matter what type you buy. If it doesn't flutter as hard as a real Senko then boil it until you get the same softness. Weight is going to determine the rate of fall. The easiest way to adjust that is hook size. For example, I mostly use the super cheap Big Bite Baits 25 pack for $5 with a 5/0 EWG. They have a dimple cast in them to keep the hook weedless that fits perfectly with a (drum roll).....5/0 EWG. So, even the manufacturer knows you're trying to knock off a Senko in every way. I boil them to the point where they have the same bend angle as a real Senko. You can do this with any of them. So, like I said, any and all of them will work.
  2. I only use Pfluger's and I have the Supreme on up. The Supreme is an awesome real for the price.
  3. For me I use just regular Z-man's in wood and Rage Blades in grass/weeds. I run a huge grub trailer too. I don't catch very many fish on them, but when I do it's a keeper.
  4. Any of them. Boil them to get the Senko flutter, play with your hook size to get the Senko fall rate. Not much else to cover.
  5. I use their 10lb 100% fluoro for shaky head and drop shot leader and really like it. As for a main line I wasn't a huge fan. I'll stick with Shooter for that job.
  6. 80lb braid for top water and A-Rigs, 12lb CXX for glide baits, and 20lb Big Game for everything else. I don't go heavier than 6oz though.
  7. Yeah, on a nose hook. I've never caught anything but bass on them.
  8. I fish a bunch of different plastics and have success with most of them. For this year the two I added that made a big difference were the Keitech Custom Leech and Crazy Flapper.
  9. Paca Craw on a Mega Strike shaky head. Anything buoyant on a true stand up head has always been the most productive for me.
  10. I have about twenty years to go, but I know when I do retire I will have a house on a good bass lake with a hydraulic lift. When I feel like going, I will go. Which will be most days.
  11. I've fished out of all three and own a Triton 21X and wouldn't trade it for anything. It has a front deck comparable to a Phoenix, is stable like a Ranger, and runs fast like a Triton.
  12. My answer to every question at the ramp; "A crankbait.'
  13. Beast! Congrats man!
  14. I use a St. Croix Rage, 6'8" M/XF.
  15. Put a piece of electrical tape on the spool. Slipping over.
  16. I've never fished a GLX for those techniques, but I have fished an NRX. Personally I'm not a fan of the NRX blank, even though I still use one for jigs. I really like the Toray 40-Ton blank for drop/shaky fishing. That I know of the Phenix MBX line and then 13 Black line use those. The K2 is the Toray 46-Ton blank. You will find A LOT of support for the NRX for the simple fact that the owners paid so much to get them.
  17. This time of year I'm pretty much only throwing a jerk bait/fluke, craw colored jig, natural colored worm, an underspin, and a crankbait that doesn't dive below 12ft. At least for here I've never found anything that produces more as they start to move back shallow to fatten up. Of course if it's a slow day we just break out the big stuff and swing for the fences and it's the right time of year for it.
  18. Now run a double Fluke rig and you will really like it.
  19. I agree with this for two reasons. 1. It will make you a more confident fisherman. If you know for an absolute certainty that it's you and not your gear then you're on the right track. 2. Resale. A $300 and above rod has legit resale value. A cheap rod, well you might as well just keep it. The two things I tell every beginner are to be confident and fish. It's the same two things I tell people learning how to play guitar. Know you can do it and put your time in. I see guys all the time come flying up to the stretch I'm fishing, come off plane, look at me for ten seconds, and punch it back out of there. I just shake my head. If you know there is fish somewhere then fish it. I could have motored away a minute before they got there and they would have stopped and fished away. Why? Because their brain tells them that is fresh water and they are confident that it will hold fish. Pull up, see what the boat in front of you is doing and do something else. If the boat in front of you is throwing reaction baits go behind them with bottom contact or top water and fish your pattern.
  20. Fat Impact, Speed Shad, Cane Thumper, Grass Pig, and Seismic Shad.
  21. Fall fishes so much different than summer. I went out Monday and caught my first fish on a deep crankbait, jig, shaky head, A-rig, and jerk bait in months. I couldn't get anything on a drop shot, shortened my leader from 18" to 8" and started catching them like crazy. They bite the same year round, they just don't bite the same stuff in the same way year round.
  22. Thanks guys. We do have a pretty solid population of bluegill and pumpkin seed here. I started throwing the big and little Gantarel during the post spawn a couple years ago and it is awesome. I'll have to pick up a bull gill too.
  23. The Calcutta has no equal for round reels, but for low profile I am Lew's all the way. Except for my Revo MGX they are all I use now.
  24. Which Bull Shad do you recommend? The buzz is all over but I don't know anyone out here that throws them.
