  1. Alright guys, when you go fishing for Smallies what's your absolute FAVORITE way to catch them??? I don't wanna know the "best" or what has worked recently, but what you personally like to do the most. Me, I love me some tube fishing! I love the slow and steady retrieve and the feeling of a big fat Bronze back slamming my tube jig when it's sitting still. Nothing beats the thrill of a solid hooksets after coaxing a big bite! It's a great combo of patience and thrill at the same time for me. Well, let hear 'em!
  2. I don't have anything fancy for reels (yet) but I just got this little guy that I'm psyched about!
  3. Oh I will for sure! It'll be a while sadly. d**n winter.
  4. I'm looking forward to my first experience with the PROvider tubes that A-Jay always recommends. They in transit now. I've had really good success with Cabin Creek 2.5 inch tubes around here (central wi). Color wise any shades of green pumpkin, watermelon, or browns with various glitter colors.
  5. There is no such thing as writing "too much." This is fishing! That was an excellent read for me, and anyone else who has no experience with dropshotting. I want to learn it next season, it's one of my biggest fishing goals. One question for you, tell me about the weights you use. Size, shape, what effects which you decide use, etc.
  6. I don't have pictures, but..... -4 packs of PROVIDER 3.5" tubes -40 Tourney Jigs tube jig heads 1/8 and 3/16 -40 gopher tackle mushroom head grub jigs in 1/8
  7. Happy new year, everyone! Does anyone have any experience on Rowleys bay in door county? It's a nice sized bay on the lake side of door peninsula. I've been there once on a guided trip and my same Friend and I are planning to go back in Spring (unless we find a better option) to do some smallmouth fishing. If anyone has good advice for there it'd be much appreciated!
  8. Ah, I see. Well I know it's hard to go on pure word of mouth. I don't have any experience with Falcon rods so I can't compare them. All I know is how much I love my St Croixs. Theyre both very light and amazingly sensitive. The legend is a but higher end so it's a bit lighter and more sensitive. I use my LTB for everything finesse: tubes, worms, sebkos, craws, etc and it never fails to amaze me. It's easily my favorite rod. The legend tournament series has a 7' 1" MF rod .adequate for fishing plastics that would be a great t-rig rod.
  9. I have 2 Avids and 1 legend tournament. You won't be disappointed. They're light and I they are very sensitive, especially the tournament. Honestly, the best thing you could do is go to a store and hold them and see how they feel in your hand.
  10. I'm a late arrival, but I fish shallow rivers too and stick to a handful of proven winners. My absolute go-to is a 1/8 or 1/4 oz confidence baits draggin head with tubes and sometimes craws. I also use "birds" from the same company. Others I use a lot are Mepps Aglia #3 in gold brown or white silver, 4" Husky jerks in various colors, 4" kalins grubs on 1/8 jig heads. I've had success with wacky rigged 4" stick baits (Yamamoto and yum) but haven't used them a lot. Getting vetter with that setup is goal of mine for next season. I know I'm way late with this but it's never too early to get excited for spring!
  11. Legend elite.......ooooooooooo want
  12. I have no experience with dropshotting. What hooks and baits do you guys like? I fish a LOT of rivers, can it be effective in current? How about shallower water? I've also seen a lot of the 3 sinker options but no real pros and cons of the shapes.
  13. I'll second the St Croix Avid. I have a 7' MH (mine is spinning) that can and does do it all. You can't beat their warranty service either. Now, mind you, I don't have experience with the others you mentioned, just sharing my experience with one in your price range.
  14. I wish the Pointers weren't so darn expensive! I do really like husky jerks, xraps and shadow raps however. I've also used smithwick suspending rogues too on a few occasions with success.
  15. Those are some great fish, man! I really like the look of that sizzlefry. I've heard good things about the LC slender pointer as well. Ive wanted to try one out but i cant find them in stores around here so i have to get them online. Hoping to find a few on sale soon!
  16. Hey guys, what jerkbaits do you use for Smallmouth? I saw a general jerkbait forum that had lots of good info and it got me wondering about smallmouth specifically. Do you down size? Any particular go-to colors? Preferred brand? Divulge!
  17. Those bridge pilings are gorgeous! I bet you get some good fish outta there. I'm the same way with weight, the least I can use to maintain bottom contact is best. Im a big fan of confidence baits draggin heads from up in your neck of the woods.
  18. That's a thing of beauty. Gotta protect the gene pool!
  19. That's an awesome guide! Thank, man! I appreciate it a lot.
  20. A-Jay, what PROvider tubes do you prefer? I only have experience with smaller tubes (2.5 cabin creeks). They work well in my home waters. You're up on Lake Michigan right?
  21. Thanks, A-jay, I've seen your comments on the actual tubes and have been wanting some. Imy glad their jigs are good too! One stop shop.
  22. Awesome tips, that's exactly what I wannam know. I spose I could get used to more memory eventually if it means a little less stretch.
  23. Have any favorite brands?
  24. Thanks for the input! I've heard good things about Big Game as well. Definitley gonna check it out. Berkley is pretty reputable all around by the sound of it.
