Lake Mooney is overpopulated with bass. You will catch TONS of 8-10" bass there. The Virginia DGIF encourages people to keep a limit of 5 undersized bass, in talking to their actual agents they want people to keep all that they catch but that would upset too many people. That lake has FABULOUS structure and once the bass population gets back in balance the forage should thrive and the size of the bass will improve.

I have one power pole and it works great. I fish the Potomac regularly and the power pole is a life saver when the wind is blowing, when you need to retie, and when you are trying to stay in one area and cover it thoroughly. I would love a second but I cannot justify it for the money.

Last year the grass was really starting to come back to being as prevalent as it was 8 years ago but all this cold weather and rain has muddied up the water for so long that I do not expect the grass to do well this year, at least the milfoil. By July the hydrilla will come in but the best grass is the milfoil. There will be some protected creeks where the milfoil is strong but I expect the main river grass (especially North of Mattawoman) will be worse than last year. Now I have only been out once this year due to boat troubles so I could be wrong, but my suspicions have been verified from what I have heard from reliable sources.

Laytonsville is within a half hour of Clopper Lake or Black Hills.

Needwood, Clopper, and Little Seneca are all good but really fish better from a boat. If you are fishing exclusively from shore then the kentlands ponds are your best bet. Throw a senko and a popper and you will catch plenty of fish. The big kentlands pond next to the office building is technically off-limits but if you stay off the shoreline where the office and parking is then you should not be bothered.

"Premium Law Enforcement Projectiles" are the same as modern defensive hollowpoint ammo that we can get anywhere except New Jersey. Regarding a concealed carrier only getting one shot, I think that is very optimistic. In a situation where you have to pull your concealed weapon adrenaline is high in everyone involved so a single shot to center mass is far from a guarantee to stop the threat. If the person you are targeting is high on uppers then the likelihood of multiple shots being needed is even higher. A single shot of .45ACP can kill but rarely is it instant, if you hit the threat in the chest and he does not stop then you have to shoot until the threat is eliminated. The slightly lower terminal ballistics of the 9mm compared to the .45ACP are made up for with higher mag capacity and lower recoil which allows for more accurate shots and faster follow up shots.

The lake allows anglers to take up to 5 bass UNDER 12 inches and I encourage everyone to do that. The bass really need to be thinned out of this lake so that the forage can recover and new forage species stocked. It has the potential to be legendary but anglers need to do their part. I know catch and release is ingrained in all of us but if we want bigger bass at Mooney we have to remove the smaller ones.

Everything worked. Chatterbait, crankbait, drop shot, texas rig, carolina rig.... I had a 7" bass bite a 12" worm...

I went out yesterday and caught a ton of dinks. Gas motors must be trimmed out of the water. That lake has the potential to be amazing but the bass are overpopulated right now.

I just brought this one home last week. I have not taken her to the range yet (or even wiped her down for a good picture) but I might get a chance this weekend...

I love everything about the .45ACP but with modern self defense ammo the difference in terminal ballistics between a 9mm and a .45ACP is very small. Small enough to tip the scales towards 9mm when you take into account increased magazine capacity.

Lake Mooney in Fredericksburg, VA opened for fishing on the 1st of July after years of anticipation. Did anyone get out and fish it? VDGIF reports that the fish are already stunted but I was still thinking about heading down there soon to catch some numbers. From what I have heard it sounds like I can launch my bass boat as long as I keep the gas motor out of the water. I saw that the park opens at 8:00AM, are boats allowed to launch earlier than 8?

Having been to the Harrisburg and Hanover BPS stores I can say they are about equal. Overpriced but decent fun as a destination. The Hamburg, PA Cabelas is an awesome store. Huge fish tank, AMAZING taxidermy display, tons of guns, but as far as tackle goes either BPS has it beat. FWIW I buy all my tackle from tacklewarehouse.com

Fished Sunday out of Lake Ridge and had a decent but relatively slow day. We spent too much time in creeks and caught about 8 fish total with the biggest at 2-12 and another at 2-9. Found fish in the reeds on secondary points, on main lake points, and on main lake wood. Green pumpkin creature baits were our main producer, also caught fish on an underspin with white fluke and a small swimbait on a slider head. Couldn't buy a bite on a crank or chatter but the water was really calm most of the day which probably played a big factor.

Thanks! I am hoping to launch out of Lake Ridge for the first time on Sunday and I will try to hit main lake spots and the first third of the creeks.

I launched from Fountainhead on Saturday morning having not seen quanjig's post in time. The wind was insane. Burned through my TM batteries and had to idle back to the ramp at the end of the day. Caught a total of 3 in the backs of creeks on a chatterbait, biggest was 16". Missed a real nice one that I saw come out of a tree and crush it.

I am a fan....

Hitting the Rez tomorrow with a friend. Launching out of Foutainhead in my Stratos and fishing with my trolling motor unless the water is muddy in which case I will launch from Lake Ridge for the first time. Last two times out i have done well and got into a good deep crankbait bite the last time. Hope the cold front doesn't shut them all off tomorrow... Anyone else gonna be out there?
