  1. When I got into this sport seriously, I had one spinning rod and used it sparingly because I did not fish for smallmouth. Once I committed to making the drives required to fish smallmouth ( which aren't that far ) I found myself using spinning gear much more often. The success with spinning gear translated to more use of it for largemouth. Sticks and stones may break my bones but dropshotting with a flippin stick don't cut it.
  2. One freakin' bad hair cut.
  3. I never thought I would need or use a 6 power but bit the weeney and bought the Champion XP736 C in full grip. I prefer full grip. This is an amazing model with an active tip but the power to drag em' out. I added the photo to show the flex. I'm pulling pretty hard.
  4. Largemouth: Flippin/pitchin a T-rig creature to brush and bushes. A SK Rage Bug is hard to beat. Smallmouth: Dropshot a nose hooked bait. Robo worms are proven.
  5. Deloris
  6. I would look at the Dobyns Champion 736C XP. I still can't figure out how Dobyns was able to create such an active manageable tip with so much power. It casts exceptionally well for such a powerful overall blank. It's worth a look. It also comes in the Fred Roumbanis series if you like green. (3/8 to 2 OZ 15-30 lb Line)
  7. Fenwick Elite Tech spinnerbait rod. I gave it to a young man who was just starting out. Lamiglas Certified Pro 806 Skeet Reese model. Waaaay too heavy. The silver lining was it was this rod that got me searching for a new flippin stick and I picked up a Dobyns. So it goes.
  8. He's compensating for something.
  9. My confidence is in the Rage Craw. Sieberts has great prices on them.
  10. The gear cases and stems in my 3000's are the same as a 2500 series. The spool size, being larger aids in casting distance and some reduction in line twist. My spinning reels are all 3000 models.
  11. Dobyns Football Jigs. Add a rage craw and get after it.
  12. You are in luck!!!!!! There is no wrong answer. The model options in both manufactures is broad and the Lews options should not be overlooked.
  13. Comparing the two generations is like comparing a 1963 Chev 327 to the new 350 Vortec. The both work work great. One is much simpler in design.
  14. That was easy.
  15. Well, here's how it played out. My sweetie was in the living room working on a puzzle. I hear, " Doug, the Fed Ex driver is out front. Did Katie have something coming or did you order something? Oh it must be for you. Yah, it's a rod from Dobyns. Did you order a rod because it's here. Don't leave it on the porch. " She's wonderful.
  16. Welcome !! 6th Sense Splash Back 70
  17. The lake I call my home lake is closed to all angling as are the rest of the public waters in my state. Strangely, two kayakers capsized on that lake yesterday and one drown. Very sad.
  18. I'll trade you straight across for a 10 year old Min Pin that has severe mental health issues.
  19. I'll bet you a quarter you had the reel on a moderate action rod and then switched to a fast action. That creates spool speed that has to be accounted for.
  20. Lots and lots of practice casting. I taught my seven year old grand son Ian to cast with a bait caster. He absolutely amazed me. I set the cast control on safe and he was casting a 1/2 jig on a seven foot rod over 40 feet with ZERO back lashes. I wish I could post the video. He was that good. Better than catching a fish right now.
  21. That is a gorgeous reel !
  22. No voodoo in this house hold. I am however still trying to get the crochet needle out of my butt.
