Reaction Innovation has the Man Bear Pig. It has a wedge on the “head” that helps hold the bait from sliding down with an EWG style hook. I used Lake Fork Tackle brand for years then BBB came out with there own. I Texas rig them with an OMTD wide gap hook in 4/0 and a flippin weight around 1/4 or 3/8 . Colors are simple with black:blue, Cali 420 and watermelon red flake. Great bait to throw behind other anglers. It shines in buck rush and bushes.

Crayfish on the Columbia above Portland Ore. are very dark brown with the ends of the claws a bright blue. Crayfish on the lower River and sloughs are more of an avocado peel color in the early spring. As the water warms they transition to rusty browns with orange-red sides. So dark jigs or hula grubs with blue tips or accents early and mud craw or brown/purple or brown/orange later.

Your not doing anything wrong. Sometimes bass come at the bait straight from the rear and fold the paddle tail forward and over the point of the hook preventing the required penetration past the barb.

A grub, plain and simple. I used to throw a grub and even pitch them like a finesse bait in medium vegetation. I’ve got to get back to that deal. Thanks for bringing the topic up!

It seems most company’s watermelon is more translucent so it is a better base to add metal flake accents. Watermelon red flake can be really good at times.

Other than the blanks being unsanded the action and power to stated rating are pretty accurate. Handles and reel seats are identical to the Champion series. My K610-4CB has the same action as my Champion 704CB. Dobyns went with Seaguides alconite for the guide series and they are lined up on the spline. May experience with Seaguides has been been very good. Note the guide count unlike some manufactures who will short a guide to save money. The quality of cork on my Kadens has been AAA. Oh, and balance is typical Dobyns, neutral.

Out of the models you listed the 735 CB Glass would be my choice hands down. The CB glass are composite blanks. You’ll get a delayed reaction tip with power. The Kaden series offers a 735 CB in all graphite. If you want to save a few bucks 80, this would also be an excellent choice.

I figured red must have some special attraction, all the Jackhammers I bought have a little dealy on them. They all get bit but I’m missing all the bites. I need to change rods or something.

My last trip in 2020, after a lousy COVID impacted season, I/we were able to get on a lake with lots of deep water structure. It was my first real chance to crank deep. I had back to back four plus pound fish from 18 feet or so. Those two fish absolutely got the juices flowing and in about a month the long rod will be back in my hands. I’m stoked to get that deep bite going again. Anyone else hot to get on something like that beside me? CC

Red is a fickle color for me and most anglers I know here locally. Reddish browns and reddish greens have worked when there is ample stain to the water. I read that red is one of the first shades to loose it’s color as the light penetration decreases. It would seem reds would have good contrast though. I have enough baits in red hues to cover most scenarios though.
