No way. I’m fishing locations I never fished before. I’m catching fish I would never have caught decades ago. I can effectively fish different situations I would have been never thought possible before. I might not get out as much now but my time is just as fun and full filling. The thought of fishing with a Lews pistol grip, a 5000 and a black jelly worm 90 percent of the time is not appealing at all.
Well didn’t twenty five years blow by. Congratulations Glenn to you and your better half for creating something truly special. I think the Columbia River is one of the most unique fisheries ever. I will also throw Pot Holes in the mix because it gave me the most incredible sixty minutes of fishing I’ve ever experienced.
Largemouth..........Texas
Smallmouth.......... Battle for Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin and New York.
It would have been Mexico but Johnny Morris hasn’t bought Mexico yet.
Once again, the area you fish, the body or bodies of water you fish, the characteristics of those locations and your personal past experience will more likely dictate what you prefer in a rod for any lure type.
To be serious, when you combine the various series by Dobyns, the 734C is the all time best seller. The demand for longer rods is what drove the expansion to rods exceeding seven feet. All the longer options was a huge factor in my trying them in the first place.
I recently discovered a shop that is 45 minutes from me that produces custom color patterns relating to my regions forage base. The work, is to me, exceptional. Have any of you die hards added custom baits to your box(s)?
First, the 734 will be under powered. The 735 has ample power for frogs and heavy cover. It is a braid friendly rod. The reality is the sweet spot for the 735 Fury is 5/8 ounce. I would put the realistic maximum at 7/8 oz. Once you move beyond that you will want to move to a 765 or 805 Flip. That 1.5 maximum range was established for lob casting larger swim baits which it will do. Lob casting. Hope that helps.
Everyone has their own opinion on what they need from a rod to fish frogs. The situations are so varied their is no A-typical “frog rod.” If your fishing really heavy vegetation a Dobyns 6 power will move big fish buried in that cover. For less dense cover or pads the 5 power has ample power and enough tip to make more precise casts. If you’ve not handled a Sierra, the actions are a bit slower than a champion. The majority of guys I fish with fish the 735 Fury with 65 braid. I just prefer the 6 power. FWIW Dobyns will happily work with any potential dealer.
