  1. You haven’t see the video of Gary Dobyns lifting a gallon of Lucas oil with an Xtreme 746C? He sets the jug on the rear deck of his Ranger and then lifts and lowers it back to the floor. Enjoy your rod.
  2. There is a fundamental principle to bait casting reels. The lure and its speed and weight must pull the line as fast as the line exits off the rotating spool. If your initial casting motion generates spool speed that the lure can’t keep up with that line coming off a rotating spool has to go somewhere. It’s a balance thing. Rename cast control dial or setting to rate of spool speed regulator. Hook you buddy’s coat or a bush and will experience the the extreme of the spool speed to lure weight principal.?
  3. Throw a change up instead of a fast ball.
  4. Have you lifted any gallon jugs of Lucas oil yet??
  5. Materials, components, design, package and quality control. That’s it.
  6. As the Founding Fathers said, “Buy tackle.”
  7. A bit slower and just a slight less power. The 5 power Dobyns are closer to the Tatula. The 736 is great for anything 1/2 ounce with trailer. The Tatula seems about maxed out but sets hooks just fine. The Kaden is right in the middle.

  9. A vibrating jig is a unique lure. It has two hinge/connection points that are a benefit and a detriment. First you get a jig with a side to side action and a blade that displaces water like a crankbait. Lots of trailer options too. Second is the design provides bait movement after you hook the fish, a problem from time to time because bass can put that hinge movement to their advantage and throw the bait. That’s my take on a very productive lure type. So I look for a rod that does four things. Cast the VJ with power. Have a slower tip to keep the blade/jig from accelerating when it tears free of vegetation. Have a tip that mitigates the fish from tossing the bait. Transition from a more moderate tip to lock up power to drive the, generally larger diameter, hook home. Find a rod that can do those four things and your good to go. One last thought. You can fish a spinnerbait with the same rod you fish a vibrating jig.
  10. Here’s a mix of various brands and models but....... if I had to pick one. The Crush 50/100
  11. So Flippin lives and is alive and well when Gary Klein is fishing. Long live the single haul.
  12. Something you read in the dentist office before he fills your cavity with a mercury based amalgam.
  13. Dobyns Kaden 715C. This model has a nice tip to throw frogs and locks up quick to get penetration with those heavy gauge hooks. It’s in your price range. Something to consider.
  14. Bingo!!! In this day of the need for instant gratification, I love to hear of the evolution of the sport and how we all gleaned from the evolution of the time. s I also like to hear about new tackle items. This sport can be a rabbit hole for your wallet and making sound INFORMED decisions what to invest in is huge. Finally, BR is a community of folks from all over the country, all walks of life, different cultural backgrounds and views on life. It’s a place in Everything Else that a member can share tough times or experiences and have us, you, me, give a kind or reassuring word. That’s very valuable. Last is any thread on an A-Jay tackle sale! Doug
  15. When Daiwa took that platform and added the SV spool the SV103 became my favorite reel. Why they dropped that model and the 105 is beyond me. Then came Tatula. Sweet coastal!
  16. That color is killer in my region.
  17. This is what I use for you application.
  18. I’ve been hearing the term, “give them a different look” or “Show them something a little different.” How far does an angler take that premise? I totally grasp switching from one bait style ( deep crankbait ) to another ( football jig, hair jig, big spoon) but does a subtle change like a slightly thinner worm over a thicker worm produce a reaction that otherwise would not? I guess I don’t lend as much credence into this concept as some.
  19. Nobody mentioned the Berkley J Walker which was a real surprise for me last year.
  20. If it has Rage on the package you’re safe.
  21. I’ve been reading BASSMASTER magazine for longer than I can remember. The issue just mailed honoring Ray Scott is one of the best issues published ever. Get a copy and enjoy some history of the sport.
