It’s totally dependent on the type/ body of water in play. A high desert deep rocky river or a shallow bowl of a lake require different approaches. Tidal effected sloughs or highland reservoirs deem their own approach. I like Big Hands’ response but also feel the order of the changes would differ by local.

I am so very sorry about your loss. As you can see, you’re not alone. I lost my Dad to cancer 21 years ago. It’s very very hard. I made promise to my Dad I couldn’t keep and it haunted me for years. I had to know he would have understood and it wasn’t my fault. I tell people who never met my father that they actually had by knowing me. Know me was akin to knowing him. My Dad is still present in me. I respect that and do the best I can to reflect the very best of his essence in me. I have most of my Dad’s tools so I try to recall him using them and teaching me how to use them. I at times talk to him when I’m alone. Being older, I have few pictures to his hard hat and tools are my memory triggers. Finally, I talk about my Dad to my grand children often so he is alive in their memories. I even wrote my Dad a letter telling him how loosing him impacted me. In all these actions, I allow myself to grieve and sometimes weep. It’s healthy. Most of all I count the blessing of having a father, however imperfect who really loved me in his own special way.

I posted this a few years ago and felt it might be helpful to share again. Hollow core lead comes in 3/16 or 1/4 diameter. It has several applications. You can cut to length as a crimp-on drop shot weight. It stays attached well but if wedged in rocks, will slide off. It makes a great finesse Carolina weight when fishing for brown bass or spots. You can also fish a dragging rig by tying a long leader to a barrel swivel with a 3 inch dropper and crimp the HC to the dropper. Finally, use it as the weight as in split shotting. A roll will last a life time. It

I make my own internal weights buy using lead bullet weights and 15 lb test mono. Run the ends of a small piece of the mono through the point end hole and pull until a small loop is left. Pinch the weight with pliers and trim the loose ends. Very inexpensive and very efficient. Use an EWG hook and you’re good to go. Cast, pitch or skip away.

I read an article with Edwin Evers regarding balsa crankbaits and he rated their actions and marked them AAA, AA, and A grades. He’s pretty picky.

I would venture to say there are no old farts in the BR members group. There are however a healthy number of seasoned members who have years of personal experience, wisdom, perspective, and proven values. I wish I was one of that group.?

I had a 736CB Glass, which is a composite rod. I also have the Kaden 735CB which I prefer. It’s all graphite but still moderate with power.
