If you fish diverse locations having a more rounded approach to techniques is an advantage. Having high levels of confidence in fewer techniques is also a good thing. I like being good at many rather than a master of few.
For the situations you fish your decision might be right. Braid however has it’s place. It has all but eliminated line twist on my spinning reels. It cuts vegetation and is strong so punching and frogging get braid. Sometimes swim jigs too. The lack of stretch and it’s neutral floatation make it the deal for Super Spooks but a leader is employed. That’s the deal.
Day in and day out considering both largemouth and smallmouth the average is about twelve and a half pounds. My biggest five ever just broke thirty two pounds. That was over nine years ago. If I can get a sixteen pound limit in a trip, I’m pretty darn happy.
Some of you have seen my post in the Bass Clubs section sharing the successes of our SAF kids. Well we lost on of the boys to a horrible traffic accident last week. This young man was a quality kid, precious and a shinning future ahead of him. It’s hit everyone hard. He didn’t even see his 17th birthday. It hurts.
My first choice would be the DX743C. I have that model and the Kaden 743C.
The Alpha Angler Clutch would also be a good choice being it’s built on an NFC blank. If it’s your first AA purchase, you should qualify for 10 percent off.
DVT has a proven track record. I sent Mike three reels today and the distance couldn’t be further. Mike and I talked by phone to coordinate exactly what needs to be done. I can’t want wait to feel the butter.
Matt Allen with Tactical Bassin has a tutorial focused on crankbaits. It’s over an hour but will answer every question you can think of. It’s very comprehensive. I encourage you to watch it.
I cast right handed, my dominant, and switch to reel right handed. It makes perfect sense to me because I want to lip or net my fish with my dominant hand. When you consider how many bass I’ve caught in my life this rationale was a wasted thought.
For me a few baits stick out.
Yamamoto Yamatanuki
This bait was very effective when pitched around cover, especially in the pre-spawn period.
6th Sense Glitch Worm
Excellent results as a drop shot bait.
6th Sense Munch
This is now my go to crankbait for ultra shallow fish.
Good stuff!
