  1. My preference is full rear grip but a split version is okay, especially on a spinning rod.
  2. Some baits get no love but they work.
  3. Luhr Jensen Speed Trap.
  4. Attempting to learn a new technique on short notice can be a bit overwhelming. I encourage you to talk to the boat capt. again and discuss what he was doing and why. Compare his presentation to yours. Try to get back out there and give it a go. You can do it.
  5. About 15/16 years ago I went into my local shop and spotted a bait I had never heard of, a Big Bite Bait Yomamma. They had four colors and four bags of each color. I bought one pack in Green Pumpkin and the next day smashed the fish pitchin it into buck brush. I went back and bought every bag they had. They were 1.79 then. The department manager asked me why I bought them all and I gave him the run down. I was happy to sell anyone who wanted a bag for five bucks. Since then I have fished the Craw Tube, Creature bait (Brush Hog) and Fighting Frog. They all catch fish. It's still a very inexpensive brand that works.
  6. I had two of the Shimano made BB1's in 1980 and sold them both. I wish I would have kept them.
  7. It's a "1980ish" third release LEWS BB1N made by Ryobi for Lews. 4.3 to 1 ratio. The originals were made by Shimano for about two years. The second release had a switch on top of the gear housing to disengage the drive gear altogether. They do not have infinite anti reverse which is why the anti reverse dogs wore out pretty quick. This reel had a huge following by crankbait anglers for decades. Parts have been nonexistent for a long time. You have a piece of history. The reel will sell for 40 to 60 bucks in that shape, if you chose to sell it.
  8. It's a business. Both organizations are driven by profit. The vested sponsors will mostly dictate any consideration to establish a merger. The anglers are a component. This won't be like the the old AFL-NFL merger driven by owners. Major sponsors will have the most influence. Media won't even come into play being the viewer market is small and events are barely covered for TV. Neither tour comes out west any more so that effects how I view the whole concept anyway.
  9. The Fury, in my opinion, is the best value rod in it's price point. It shines for moving baits. The Sierra series is, as mentioned, a step up. You get a higher modulus blank, better grade of cork and cork rear handle portion, and Fuji guides. Balance is consistent with Champions but actions are not quite as fast. You get tip and power. The proprietary guides on my Furys have held up really well. The listings previously provided are pretty well on the money. Add a 703SF and you can fish a whole list of techniques effectively. If you wish to upgrade any model it would be the 734 and 735 because of the feel techniques involved.
  10. I retired 14 months ago which has allowed me to take time to read. It is one of my pleasures now. I have read 31 books so far. I love it.
  11. I own both series. I've met Don Malarky. If you really want to get a feel for the period read: Band of Brothers Beyond Band of Brothers Shifty's War Citizen Soldier D-Day Dog Company Fox Company The Wild Blue Helmet For My Pillow The Pacific With The Old Breed ( E.B. Sledge ) Midnight Sun Morning Star Unbroken Ghost Soldiers Eisenhower And The Oder The Greatest Generation by Tom Brokaw I know it's not WWII, but I encourage everyone to read the book, One Million Steps. It changed my entire mind set on Marines (Any combat troops) in Afghanistan. Every time I see a young guy/gal who is an amputee, it brings me to tears.
  12. Welcome. Nice to have more teenagers in their sixties here.
  13. Spent some time in Ohio the last 10 days and filled one item on my trip list, the Hall Of Fame. It was a great experience and was more than I expected. If you can go, do it. It is more than football, it's a wonderful piece of history.
  14. It's so hot, I poached an egg in the bird bath.
  15. Change your name and your'e thirty bucks ahead.
  16. This is my grand kids to a tea! Fat, salt and sugar and picky as it gets. Thank heaven they like some fresh fruits. My wife works her tail off trying to fix healthy meals in spite of picky eating habits. I remember when I was a kid being hungry all the time. My parents grew up during the depression and instilled depression values in me.
  17. My favorite lure is a Norman's Deep Little N. Over the last few years the most productive have been lures with the word RAGE in the front.
  18. I love both baits. Water temperature drives what bait I start with. Colder water, under sixty degrees gets the Rodent because of the subtle gliding action. Once the water warms up, the Rage Bug gets first duty. The bait is an active bait and the tails produce a vibration signature. That's not to say either bait can't be effective in the other temperature zone. When used as a jig trailer, the same applies.
  19. A Ballistic LT 3000 would match up perfectly. Sweet rod.
  20. I've been fishing it for almost six years now. It's very supple and comes off the reel nicely, cast or spin. I have yet to have a knot failure. I think you'll like it after you fish with it for awhile.
  21. Picked up a lightly used Ballistic EX 2500 for a song. Sweet reels.
  22. Luhr Jensen Hot Lips and Speed Trap and a Cotton Cordell Ripplin Red Fin.
  23. And at what point did you realize your fly was open ? I'm lucky I can still dress myself. My wife asked my seven year old granddaughter, Emma if she knew what it meant to be retired, speaking of your's truly. Her response, " when papa was so old he can't work anymore." That about sums it up. Time for my blue pill. Oh, I forgot something A Jay. Guess what I got for father's day ? One of those hydraulic toilet seats that lowers itself. And people ask me why I have no self esteem.
  24. Before I retired I had a rule: No overtime, no stuff. Buying gear was never questioned. Now when I pick up the odd this and thats, my wife (45 years) asked me why do you buy that ? My response, " so I don't have to burden you with figuring out what to by me." I am a very considerate husband.
