  1. Tackle warehouse has a very good discount on the Dobyns Sierra series right now. They are actually less or same that Furys at 109.99-119.99. That is an outstanding deal. Definitely worth a look.
  2. I prefer a ghetto mocha.
  3. Dobyns Extreme 795Flip HP Diawa Zillion HD Mag Sealed 7.3:1 #50 PP Green or #20 Sunline Sniper 3/8 to 1 ounce tungsten Owner 4/0 Jungle Flippin Hook or Gammi 4/0 Heavy Cover Flippin Hook Rage Structure Bug, Magnum Rage Bug Now the rod might change in the future when I get a Dobyns Xtasy 755C.
  4. I've owned a few GL2's. The Sierra will be lighter and better balanced. The current TW deal on the Sierra is a no brainer in my mind.
  5. Anything with the word RAGE in front of it.
  6. I know. It's sad.
  7. Yo Zuri Hardcore. Offered in different depths. Great bait.
  8. The issue for me A-Jay is not just snow but draw downs. The reservoirs are down well below winter pool already. Ramps are out of the water. It's winter steelhead or nothing. I'm going through my tackle to try and weed out those baits I can just live without. Feng Shui and all that crap. So far I've filled a sandwich baggie and I'm almost done. Any body want some fluorescent pink Yum Craws?
  9. I would say you bought an SV103 in 8 to 1 (purple) and was provided the wrong box. You don't fish with the box so you got a fantastic deal. I would jump on that model for that retail every day all day. You hit the lottery. I have the same model in a lower gear ratio. Awesome reel.
  10. Check the Show Off Your Stuff thread
  11. Tackle Warehouse has Dobyns Sierras at a DEEP discount on the 25 Days of Christmas sale. Some selected Loomis and Megabass too. A Sierra at 109.00 is a heck of deal.
  12. Back in the 80's BASS used to cover their Opens in Bassmaster magazine with an added feature. The top five finishers gear was provided. I noted a huge trend because sponsorship's were far less then. Casting reels were Shimano Curado B series and line was Berkely Big Game. When anglers had to foot their own bill, that made a statement. #15
  13. I have to admit I've never factored the aroma of a reel into my purchase. Mine smelled like Vick's Vapo Rub.
  14. Eight foot is my max.
  15. I'm right with you Mobasser. My buddy took me out on a late Feb. day with water temps in the upper 40's. Water had warmed from low 40's in a two day period. I fished a Mann's blackberry jelly worm in the flat tail on a J95 3/0 offset worm hook. Sorry Catt. Lead bullet weight unpegged. The rod was an HMG 555 pistol grip with an Ambassadeur 2500C and 12 pound Maxima. I crawled that worm as slow as a human could. My "mentor" had me down 11 to zero. I was frustrated. I thought I had hung in some grass again and the grass pulled back. My buddy's last name is Sewell so I always said the bass committed Sewellcide and I hooked and landed it. That was like an Epiphany for me. I had been pulling the worm out of the fishes mouths thinking I was hung in light grass. The day ended up with my passing John and out catching him. From that day forward, 2-11-1979, I committed myself to learning to worm fish. Catt has said many times, the more bites you get or feel the better the fisherman you become. This applies especially to worm fishing. I fished Gator Tails, Culprits and Manns worms the first several years. Over the years the Baby Brush Hog displaced most of my T rig worm fishing and I find myself fishing worms Wacky, Neko, Drop Shot and on a Shaky Head now. I can remember that day like it was yesterday. Great memory. Thanks. Doug
  16. It's a conspiracy generated by subliminal messages hidden in Bass Pro/Cabelas commercials.
  17. Luhr Jensen Speed Trap is hard to beat in my book.
  18. My jerkbait rods are both all graphite but have a "moderate " crankbait action. They rebound quickly to allow for that snap I like to work the bait. The rod's moderate action comes into play when playing a fish. I prefer fluorocarbon line in #10 and sometimes #12 to help get the bait deeper. I would like to hear what Dwight Hottle might add. He is a jerkbait guy for sure.
  19. Way to go on your new reel. Glad to hear thing are going well on the home front. You got yourself a great reel that can do a lot, pitching to long casting. I have three CT Type R's and they are great work horse reels. Enjoy that sucker.
  20. You'll get your chance you little primate.
  21. The bait monkey and I have redefined our relationship this holiday season. We will most likely pick each other's fleas off until mid March.
  22. Thirty years ago I always fished a spinnerbait with a trailer but never a trailer hook. The materials and skirt color options were so limited. I added a pork twin tail, twin tail or single tail grub in white or chartreuse. The designs today and skirt materials are fair more productive. Hooks have also improved dramatically so trailers just don't seem to be as necessarily albeit there is always a time and place for a trailer. The fish will let you know. I still add a Fat Impact or single tail grub on occasion but that's about it. I rarely add a trailer hook but have them in the boat.
