  1. Affordable access to a population of catch able fish ! My local city has a park like lake. Twenty years ago it had a significant population of Crappie, Blue gill and a smattering of bass. A local civic club ran a kids day each year to catch stocked rainbows that were caught or died in a short period. They pressured the city to kill off the lake of all species so the stocked trout could hopefully prosper. They did not and a major potential resource for kids was lost. Sad. A base fishing license in Washington is near forty bucks.
  2. Cinnamon Black Pepper, Green Pumpkin-Blue Caw Swirl.
  3. I have two Dicks near me. One is buying their house the other is renting.
  4. Josh, I see you fish the Potomac and the cover, vegetation is pretty thick. It could be that little extra power is a benefit for you and where you fish. Better to be slightly over powered than under powered. You would be well served by either model.
  5. I have three buddies who were in the same situation as you are. I let them each play with my 702 and 703 and all three chose the 702SF. They each shared they liked the lighter tip but felt the the rod locked up with enough power to move fish or drive a hook home. They each use braid and leaders and that means firmer hook sets. Something to consider.
  6. Sounds like you have a couple of set ups that should work good. I just like a bit longer rod so anything over 1/2 gets a 795 Flip. I like flouro over braid but that's just me.
  7. There are those situations when you may want or need a jig with a shorter profile and trim the skirt at the hook bend. This is when the Rage chunk is a great fit. I use both and the Rage bug as a trailer. Each will effect the rate of fall.
  8. My grandfather on my Dad's side died when he was eleven. I have very few memories of dad's mother as my grandma lived in Saskatchewan. I had limited time with my Mom's parents who were wheat farmers in Alberta. My Grandfather was born in 1885 in Stalbridge England and spent over fours years active artillery duty in Belgium and France during " the Great War" and was gassed. His fingers were always yellow from rolling his own cigarettes. The rest is mine. My dad didn't hunt or fish. He worked six or seven days a week.
  9. I still have six LEWS BB1N's and it's more likely than not they will be buried with me.
  10. I am puzzled. How does practical and jokes fit together?
  11. Norman Middle N and Deep Little N for sure. 6th Sense Curve 55 is for real. Rock Crawler 55, great colors
  12. I've been fishing Dobyns for six years now. I can find a model to cover any need I have in a choice of six different series. St Croix makes a quality rod and I've owned several over the years. The grips are way to short and don't like skeleton reel seats. I think Dobyns are better balanced. The service has been second to none for me. I have not had a single failure to date ( knock on wood ). The way Dobyns rods fish, fits my style.
  13. Get a policy with a separate binder for your sporting goods. Set it up for the replacement cost, not the appraised cost. Photo document your gear and email the photos to your agent. The cost of the binder is worth it if you have over five grand in replacement cost. Just a suggestion. I also typed a detailed inventory with each of my rods and reels and their replacement costs. Home owners and boater policies have limited caps unless you specify an amount to cover your potential loss. When I did this, the company request the SERIAL NUMBERS on my reels and rods. They had no idea they have no such identifiers. Oh, BTW, use MSRP for replacement cost.
  14. First, welcome to the group ! If you are focused on a Diawa product, which is good, the the Elite Andy Montgomery 7'1" skippin rod would be ideal for your application. I know it says it's a heavy action but the tip compensates for that. Outside of that model, I would suggest any Dobyns 733C in the series you can afford.
  15. 4XD #4 5XD #4 6XD #2 8XD #2
  16. Let me look at the copy of my citation for no license...............about 1130 hours on April 8th. Most of my biggest smallies came in the last hour of day light in Octobers. My biggest in state largemouth was at 10 AM.
  17. I truly believe an angler can build a quality number of set ups buying pre-owned gear. It takes a little time but it's well worth it. Fish what you've got, take care of it and learn to use it to it's full potential. You can buy the most expensive line on the market and means nothing if you don't check your line or tie a good knot.
  18. Somebody call my name ?
  19. I hope things continue to progress for you Clayton !!
  20. Reliable info posted so far. YZ is good line. Strong because it has a larger diameter for it's test. Good abrasion resistance and knot strength. It develops memory in larger tests. It benefits from line conditioner.
  21. Much learning hath made a man mad.
  22. The daffodils next to the front of house are 4 to 6 inches high. Sprouts from the day lilies are also showing green. I expect the spawn to start when my federal taxes are due.
