  1. https://siebertoutdoors.com/products/ols/products/morel-widegap-3-pack Or the Owner Block Head Offset (also available through Siebert. Not a big fan of elaztech with that style hook but something like the X Zone Ned Zone or Zoom Beatdown work very well.
  2. For the cold water months I'm playing with some finesse swimbaits and underspins. 2.8 on a gammy round 26 and the coolbaits down under with the little 1/0. In the summer I'm hoping to adapt some of the topwater swimbait stuff (Gambler EZ) I picked up on Florida to my local water. So, soft plastic swimbaits is my final answer.
  3. Abort the Palomar if it's an ongoing issue. I have been using the above knot (double pitzen?) for 2 years with success. The only minor issue is the 3 tags can be stout with heavier line and like to grab vegetation. A non-issue IMO as the knot is very strong, fast and easy to tie in a real world situation.
  4. I think there's something to be said for throwing a bait that they haven't seen a ton of. My go to is the 6th Sense Flat 75X, but I also got an order of OG Tiny 4 that I'm looking forward to testing out in skinny water.
  5. I've gone to Erie for a trip like that. Normally a 2-1/2 hour drive but towing and construction on 79 usually takes a bit longer. I think that's about where I'd cut it off. Last thing you need is to fall asleep behind the wheel on the way home.
  6. No. If I can't fish around, over and through the veggies, count me out.
  7. Haha Cody is my guide ?
  8. Looking for some advice/opinions for the guys and gals using Ark Rods. The last 2 years I have been blessed to visit Florida and fish everything from Okeechobee to golf course ponds. I'm looking to buy a "utility" rod that I can throw some braid on and keep down there to have at the ready. I was recently exposed to Ark rods, and the Invoker Pro is currently on sale. My question is which model would be the most versatile, specific to Florida? 7'3 Mag MH 7'4 MH 7'6 H Other?
  9. I've been given fish with the intent of me targeting them, down to the bait they were eating. Even with that info, it can be very difficult to catch another man's fish. However, the intent is never to turn a spot you worked to find into a community hole.
  10. #10-#12 copoly here. YZH.
  11. I've had that happen out of the box... Then I tightened the star drag and voila, problem solved? And yes, I agree.
  12. Hadn't seen that. Thanks for sharing!
  13. I'm not sure any brand could get me to switch from Shimano. More likely, a decline in Shimano product quality would lead me to seek an alternative. Curious what he might have to say, or if he has seen/used one.
  14. You've peaked my interest. Not in the reel, but the decision and strategy. I'll be on the boat with someone very well connected with Ark next week. I'll have to do some digging.
  15. I've been waiting on my OG Tiny's since November. A little jealous of those of you who have them. Due in (optimistically) Feb 18th. Really looking forward to testing them out as I have seen great success with the DT-4 in similar situations that I will throw the OG. 6th Sense Flat 75 is my go to flat side, but the smaller profile of the Rapala should finds its way into the rotation quickly.
  16. Looking back, a lot of my struggle likely came from pairing the wrong bait to the wrong rod... Or in my case early on, throwing every bait I owned on the same rod. The actual operation of the reel came pretty quick, but understanding the rods role in the cast wasn't as quick, or in my budget at the time. I'd say after a season (7-8 months at most here) I was comfortable with the gear. Still far from a master, but a lot more efficient.
  17. I've used a couple of these. It's a niche bait, IMO. Hybrid jerkbait/lipless. They work as advertised, but don't expect to get more than maybe 3' depth on your retrieve.
  18. The Amistad is a staple... It's one power up (what Falcon calls a 7 or HH) compared to the Head Turner and HC Jig (6 Power or H). That model should be available in most of the lines and price points they offer. My 7'4 Lowrider is in Florida right now waiting on me... I won't be punching mats with it, but its going to get a workout. Looking forward to see how it performs.
  19. Another option in the line is the 7'4 H/F Heavy Cover Jig rod. It's a very versatile rod. I've throw up to an ounce Texas rig on it without worry. I've frogged with it. Drag a football jig. Etc. Enough tip to be accurate and enough backbone for moderate cover. They come in around $100. I throw the Lowrider model, but did own the BuCoo SR. I don't own a big flipping stick (7'11" XH) because it would rarely get picked up on my local water, but I have a few rods in the 7'3-7'4 H/F that see a lot of use. I like a 200 size reel in a 7 speed. Curado K would be above your budget, but it's a solid reel.
  20. I'm not, and the collection keep growing ??‍♂️
  21. I don't do anything preventative to my cork. If it needs cleaned up a magic eraser does a good job for me.
  22. He must be doing well. I missed that one, but I did see the video where he attempted to replicate one.
  23. I use the 3/32 VMC Drop Dead with flukes with success. It'll shimmy on the fall, but still light enough to work it high in the water column. I use the Owner Weighted TwistLOCK with a CPS with swimbaits as a topwater. They make a good hook. Think you'll be happy, but can't speak for the gauge/strength of the "light" version.
  24. Consult Tackle Warehouse for the answer ?
  25. I'll be on the lake the 18th & 19th. Got to try and figure it out quick, so feel free to give an update ? Most likely launching out of Scott Driver and head toward Tin House but won't know for sure until we see what the wind is doing. Good luck! Thanks to @Mike L for sharing that info. Always helpful and generous!
