  1. I use about 5 different brands of hooks, because I have a favorite style of hook(s) from each. I have a high level of confidence in each, and it's hard for me to put a price tag on that. If you have found a hook that works for you but price is a concern, most brands offer bulk packs.
  2. Every single time ??
  3. Depends which location has the inventory. I'm in PA and expected my last order to come from Atlanta. All items (rod, reel, baits, etc) shipped from Cali. Either way, it should be much quicker than it has been!
  4. Are you a member of B.A.S.S.? The "gift" bag that came with my membership is like a mini speed bag. Would work very well for that. Or, you could consider a bait binder. Or... Stick with me... A good old fashioned fanny pack.
  5. @N Florida Mike that's great! Except for the part where your wife was thrown from the horse. Hope she made a full recovery! There's a place like that not far from where we are staying. English Mt. Came across it browsing the web. I'm not much for trout but those places are always fun to poke around and shoot the breeze. Thanks for sharing. BTW - I'm in PA and here it's "Yinz". Never realized how it sounded until I moved away and came back. I very much prefer "y'all" but to each their own.
  6. @newbiedmv the Fontana I'm seeing is across the line in NC. These stories aren't encouraging me to buy a license for both states ?
  7. Looks like a Zoom Chunk got thrown in the same box with some elaztech...
  8. Well, I'm not sad that they haven't come back to the Three Rivers (Pittsburgh) and that's in my back yard...
  9. Appreciate the input but I'm specifically interested in getting a guide and bass fishing. Anyone have any experience in the fall on Cherokee, Douglas or Loudoun?
  10. All, Headed to the Great Smoky Mountains in September. Any suggestions of where to go if I can get a day of fishing in? Douglas, Cherokee, the Tennessee River around Knoxville, other? Big green bass are my favorite, but I'll chase smallies too! As a bonus, let me know if you have any suggestions for a guide service. Thanks!
  11. I wear a lot of Aftco, but all the major brands seems to be effective. I keep an eye on their sale page https://aftco.com/collections/mens-sale Also, stay away from fabric softeners for the moisture wicking and anti-stink and stain.
  12. Is this a new company?
  13. Is that the double line, draw a circle around your finger, 3 wraps and back through the circle? Gary Klein and Shaw Grigsby use that, too. I've also seen it called double-pitzen on YouTube. Anyway, if we're talking about the same knot, that's what I use with great success. You can get pretty quick with some practice. It's really pretty simple. My only complaint is you have 3 tags that face outward and like to grab vegetation. But, break-offs are minimal.
  14. I don't fish a ton of poppers but the Berkley Bullet Pop 80 size works for me when I get the itch.
  15. I've fished in North Carolina, Texas and Florida, and I have Erie just a short drive North. I've been on the Atlantic twice. I try to incorporate a guide trip into my vacations when possible. Thus far, Florida has been my favorite and I hope to go back annually or every other year. As far as new destinations, I think Michigan/Wisconsin/Minnesota would be fun to explore, and a great learning opportunity. Giant bass in Mexico is also on the bucket list.
  16. Yep. There's a blue one, too. Forgive me for not being familiar with the characters.
  17. That's asking a lot from one rod. Something like a Falcon Amistad (7'3" H/F 1/2-1.5oz) would work. May not be ideal for each lure, but it will do the job. The BuCoo series come in at $110. I have a couple H/F BuCoo and Lowriders and they are not "complete broomsticks".
  18. The stock screw locks on them are a little too big for some baits. I change them to a Medium Owner CPS. May not be necessary but thought it was worth sharing.
  19. Countless number of ways to fish a soft jerk bait. You'll probably get a lot of mixed opinions, from a nose hook on a spinning reel to a Carolina rig, and everything in between. You'll want to experiment with each bait and figure out their action and play with fall rates for depth. Personally I like a Zoom Super Fluke on a VMC Drop Dead 4/0 3/32oz. Makes it easier to cast, weedless, increases the fall rate but still falls naturally and I can twitch it on the surface if I want to.
  20. I've not bought the 6th Sense box, but I've used 6th Sense products and I've used another subscription service. Here's what I learned... 6th Sense makes a good product. Their crankbait hardware and paint jobs are above average in their price range. The only issues I've had were cracked bills, but I haven't seen it enough to say it's an issue. My favorite/most used lures are the Crush 50x, Flat 75x, Divine Hybrid Jig and Curve Finesse cranks. As far as subscriptions go, it's a neat idea. For someone just starting to learn about baits and how to fish different lures it could make sense. I did it for about 6 months, before I stopped. Although I saved a few bucks from retail, I got on average one lure a month that I never used (based on the waters I fish). Basically nullified any savings I was getting. My personal opinion is I would rather pay retail for the exact lures and colors I want and not leave it to chance. But, if you currently have limited tackle and want to expand your knowledge, but aren't sure how, a monthly subscription could be an answer. My boxes provided information about when/where/how to fish each lure, and suggested rod/reel/line for each presentation. Hope that is useful toward your decision.
  21. Learned to read a radar in my baseball days. As an angler it's a safety tool, and I'm glad it's accessible 24/7 from a phone. Reading the weather has definitely evolved for me as an angler. I'm no meteorologist, but I better understand the bigger picture. That being said, I often have little control over when I can fish. Tournament dates are established months ahead of time, and family and work responsibilities (usually) come first. So as long as the conditions are safe enough, I go when I am able. Hopefully some day I can try the retirement thing and be a little more selective...
  22. Welcome, Josh!
  23. Not sure what styles you're looking for but there are a few jigs on the current sale page https://siebertoutdoors.com/products/ols/categories/sale-items and I think the jig packages may get you a better price per jig https://siebertoutdoors.com/products/ols/categories/jigs You can always email if you have questions about a product or order, but IMO his prices are very fair.
  24. If you really want to make it simple they feed up before reproducing, recover/guard the hatch, and then feed up for winter. Basic survival, eat and reproduce. If we are talking about predicability on my local water it would be summer. We have fish that will stay shallow until the water freezes in the winter. During the summer the lakes really shrink and they will be on/around anything that creates a canopy or casts a shadow. It's not easy fishing, but it's easy to eliminate a lot of water.
  25. I just give a quick snap or jerk too, which often triggers a strike. A more erratic retrieve is often more effective than a straight, consistent retrieve anyways (but not always). All of that. Often when you rip it free, the bite that follows is a no-doubter.
