  1. wow, talk about testing your patience. I have been trying to fish deeper waters in my home lakes (100+) but i struggle with the wait
  2. Made it to Cayuga yesterday from 6 PM-8 PM. The water rose enough to get my boat off the trailer at the State Park launch on the north end. It appears that the new launch by the dam is finished and usable. Water temps in the Northern portion of the lake are in the high 50's. I didn't catch any fish yesterday.
  3. I got my boat out for the first time in NY last night. Put in on the north end of Honeoye and fished for about 3 hours in the evening. Caught 8 11-12" fish, mostly shallow. Water was between 68 and 71 depending on bottom composition. I did not see any beds once the wind calmed down, but fish were pretty aggressive.
  4. I grew up in the Rochester area, so I'm pretty familiar with the areas you mentioned. My wife and I are both excited for the move - she wants to go look at a place out in Bloomfield when we get out there. I'm not complaining.
  5. I'll be working in Canandaigua. Going to look for a place in that general vicinity.
  6. There are certainly going to be pros and cons to living anywhere. At this point in my life, as long as my wife has a place for her horses and I have some decent bass fishing nearby, we will be happy. The property taxes do seem outrageous in the villages, so we'll be careful where we buy.
  7. After moving away in 2006, I have lived in the southeast and out west in Utah. Im excited to say I got hired for a job in upstate! Cant wait to get moved and get my boat out on the water. I'll be posting more in this section now, and looking forward to making new friends and maybe even joining a bass club. See you fellas on the water! 2018 is going to be a good year!
  8. This is perfect. Im going to give this a shot and let you know how it goes.
  9. Ill have to measure when I get home, but if I remember correctly, its a circular hole with a 2" diameter. The fiberglass is about an inch thick. Again this is a rough approximation.
  10. I pulled the transducer. Selling the whole setup to a fishing buddy.
  11. I just finished pulling all the old lowrance equipment off of my bass boat, and Im left with a hole in the hull where the old flush mount transducer use to be. I know that I could just fiberglass the hole and permanently fill it, but I'm wondering if anyone has come up with another way to do it? A plug of some sort would be nice, in case I ever sell the boat or decide to get the flush mount Humminbird transducer. Any ideas?
  12. What lake in upstate? I grew up in the Rochester area.
  13. Im not sponsored, and I dont tournament fish. I used to dabble in everything, and if you looked at my boat deck you would see seven or eight rods, all different manufacturers and various lineups. I got my first Dobyns and I fell in love with it. Then the second, third, fourth....12th...I like looking down at my rods and seeing some consistency. I have gotten to know the lineups that I use really well, and I know exactly what each rod is used for. I followed a similar path with reels as well. On a different note, I would like to try a GLX or NRX....
  14. Hahah I was watching a videos of some guys in Europe who cut a large hole into the ice. They would basically draw pike in using whatever method, and then spear them. It seemed like a very different concept than what we do here. Although in northern Utah on Bear Lake, people cut out giant sections of ice and use dip nets to catch these little native fish called Cisco. Looks kind of fun in its own way.
  15. Do you ever travel north in the winter, or do you stay in Florida? Ice fishing can be hit or miss, and its not nearly as fun as fishing from the boat, but it is a great way to pass time in the winter.
  16. Temps have averaged below freezing for over a month now, and most of our reservoirs are beginning to ice up. I stopped bass fishing about a month ago, and Ive been working on mods to my ice tent. So far, I added a layer of insulation, and setup a few light bars off of a 12 volt bettery. It should be good to go now for those after work expeditions. How many of you guys are already on ice?
  17. Haha man, I dont feel like such an idiot anymore. Last year, I broke a high end Dobyns on my old boat cleat. My new Ranger came with flush locking cleats, so I actually really appreciate that little detail.
  18. Access is an issue where I fish. Reservoirs I like to fish are privately owned, and dont open the boat launches until May. So boat (as much as possible), and float tube for all else.
  19. 1. 8" ROF 12 Huddleston in Rainbow Trout 2. Huddleston 68 Special ROF 12 in Rainbow Trout 3. 1/2 oz. black football jig with double tail grub 4. Storm Arashi 05 Squarebill in Baby Bass 5. 3/8 oz. swim jig with craw trailer
  20. I fly fish for trout a lot, as well as fish out of a float tube for bass in smaller reservoirs where boats arent allowed. I have used fabric mesh, rubber (like the one posted above), and finally the one I carry on me when Im wading 99% of the time. Its pretty sturdy and lightweight, the net itself is deep so you can keep fish in the water while youre unhooking them, its long enough to net larger than average fish, and the rubber dipped material doesnt catch any hooks. Its long enough to reach out from the float tube to land a fish, but not so long that I cant carry it. http://www.frabill.com/nets-accessories/trout-nets/9x20-rectangle-trout-net-with-fixed-rubber-handle.html I added a small carabiner and a magnetic release to mine, so it sits behind my body while im wading. When I need to land a fish, I just pull down on it, and it releases from the magnetic holder. I dont know what youre looking to spend, but this one is only 25$.
  21. I am going to spend more time on this thank you Wayne.
  22. Thanks!! I have lots to learn. I was using the time slider but I didn't know my side imager had a recorder haha. I'll look into both thank you.
  23. Sorry if this topic has already been covered, I tried to find an answer before posting this so if I missed it I apologize. I have several reservoirs around me that are not graphed out on my Lakemaster card. I would eventually like to invest in the autochart pro software, but for now, I have a decent system for graphing. I use google earth and use the waypoints they provide during low water years to plot out the inlet channel. The only problem with this, is that when the channel swings the display is just a massive cluster of waypoints and is almost impossible to quickly decipher what the heck is going on on the screen. Is there any way to graph a line, that is, can I have something on the screen permanently that traces the inlet channel instead of using waypoints?
  24. I was going to start a new thread asking about how some of you guys approach the muddy shallow water, but this pretty much answered my question. Water dropped pretty far in my circumstance, and the ski boat traffic was HEAVY. All the traffic turned the water really turbid. This water, if left undisturbed, is typically pretty clear. Assuming the ski traffic had been going for two days, would this be a long enough window of time to draw them shallow?
  25. I mean no offense, but if I lived in Missoula (aka fly fishing Mecca), I wouldn't be looking for any bass lol.
