I probably had that catalog. When I started back fishing last year, I guess I was remembering those old prices. I got sticker shock when I starting buying new lures. $4.00 was an expensive crankbait back then.
I golf and it is expensive. I work at a golf course part time so my golfing green fees, cart, driving range is free. The money I make working there go to my fishing expenses.
Here in Mississippi, the weather was warm, 50's,60's, the first of the week. Last night we had tornado warnings, and this morning we have SNOW, not much but we do have snow. Probably not going to last very long.
Read some reviews on the Gliss sounds good but most did not like the line. It would be great just to use 24# test on my spinning reels and not have to use a leader. I guess for now I will stick with my Power Pro 10# test braid with 7# test Sniper fc.
I lost a spinnerbait before the first cast. I was just starting to tie on a spinnerbait when I saw a snake coming toward the boat about ten feet away. In trying to scare the snake away, I somehow manage to dump my spinnerbait overboard. I felt kind of stupid but at least I did't break my rod fighting the snake.
Just about my whole tacklebox is older cranks. I have mostly 70's, 80's Poes, Bagley, Bomber, Bandits, and even have some Strike King Spence Scouts. How many remember the Scouts? All these baits caught fish then, they will still catch fish now. My favorite are the Poe's RC1 and 2, and the 300 series.
When I bought all new reels this year, I also bought the reel covers and the rod socks. Both are pretty cheap, got both from BPS. Only takes a few seconds to put both on and keeps your rod and reels working good and looking new.
All great advise. Don't overlook buying used. You can get more HP on main motor and TM for the money. If you don't know a lot about boats, you probably know someone who does, take them with you when you are looking. If you can swing a new boat with enough motor, that to me is the way to go but don't rule out used.
First few years that I started fishing, I fished a 12 acre private lake. If you can't catch fish, it's hard to learn how to fish. Wish I could fish it now.
