I am probably in the minority but I set down in a regular seat 90% of the time. I stand up if I am pitching or flipping or if I need to stretch for a while. I actually have a better hook set sitting down. I have tried the butt seat but it just isn't for me.
When you have the rod up, about 11 o'clock position, engage the cast bar and with the lure at the rod tip, it should slowly go to the floor with hardly no overrun when it hits the floor. Keep adjusting until it does this. Does this make any sense.
Medium or Medium Light will work. I tries the 6'9"ML but just feel right. I went back to my 6'3" Diawa Guido Hibdon rod I had from years back. I not sure, but I think it is a Medium. I use straight 7# test Sunline.
I still throw spinnerbaits with the rubber skirts. The spinnerbait that I use still comes with the rubber skirts and old twist tie. I think it gives a different look. It still catches fish.
Same thing happen to me but I never took it to the shop. I had cranked up my motor the day before and just let it idle, it was on a lake where you could not run the outboard. The next day I saw the oil running down on the skeg and freaked out. Got on the internet and found out it could be coming from exhaust. Cleaned it up and it has been fine ever since.
I don't unhook anything until I know the boat will hit water when I unhook. I believe the web site warns of this. I even installed a safety chain just in case the winchstrap breaks.
This was the method I used and worked great. I got some ultimate bunks and had to change my routine. I back the boat back until most of the bunks were covered with watch and then pull up to where I can unhook without getting in the water. I still hook up my 25 foot rope, and give the boat a shove and off it goes.
I use a bait by Old River Lures called Mr. Hootie. It is local bait that is pretty popular in MS and LA. It comes in all weights but is smaller than your average size spinnerbait. It comes with the old style skirt and has the twist tie instead of the r bend. Really a good bait.
