A 17 foot isn't going to be a whole lot better. I have a 17 ft. and I really have to be careful and check what the wind is going to do on that day I go fishing. I am not saying you can't fish in a 17ft but if I was regular tournament fishing, I would go with a 20 ft or bigger.
About 20 years ago I pulled up to the dock from all day fishing. When I tied my boat up I was looking up at the sky and lost my balance and fell in. Well if that wasn't enough, when I came up my prescription sunglasses was gone. Got the boat loaded and took a Bagley DB3 and started casting for them. On the 10th cast I caught them. That was about a $350 cast.
I was running ethanol gas at the first of last year when I got my boat, the last few months I found a station that was ethanol free. My boat cranks better and idles better. I am running a 90hp 1997 Johnson. Only ethanol free for me. I still run Sea Foam every 3rd or 4th tank.
I used the TRD with the Shroom head with the weedguard. Super easy to set the hook with 7# test line. Warning, if you start fishing it you might get 'hooked' on it. It flat catches a bunch of fish. Junebug is my favorite color.
