Sound to me like they are trying to jack up the price for repair. Did you ask them what is wrong with the carbs, I would try another shop and try to find one that is familiar with Johnson motors.
100 series Bandits, for the price you can beat them. I have a lot of other brands of cranks but seems like a Bandit is always tied on at the end of the day.
1+ on the butt seat from bassboats.com. I have tried a lot of seats over the years and this butt seat is the best I have found. Look at WalMart for a pedestal. They sell all the popular ones on line at a much cheaper price.
I would use any rod between 6'6' and 7', med. light to med. The Ned rig is really not a feel technique. Saying that I would get the best rod I could buy so you could use it for different techniques.where feel is important.
I think it was more the Hula Stix than the head but you was working it right. When you think you are working it slow, slow down some more. Any of the Ned type baits will work year round.
