One thing to check on is if you are running the right recommended plug. My boat was having starting problems. I looked in the manual and found out that I was running a different plug than recommended. I changed out to the right plug and it made a huge difference. When all else fails, read the instructions !!!
Mono is the only line I have ever used, did try FC but didn't like it. Like others have said, diameterin of the line is the factor in how deep a crankbait dives. Seems like most people are concern with cranks running deeper. If you want it to run deeper, use a different crank to run the depth you want.
I changed out my Bandit crankbaits to the Mustad KVD Elite hooks, rarely loose a fish. I also use a glass rod with med. action
for my shallow running cranks.
Congrats on the boat. I believe $2500 is a great price. Getting it cheaply will allow you to fix the little things and add improvements. Now, go catch some fish.
I have been using Bandits since they came out, still my #1 crankbait. I wait until they are on sale and buy a bunch of them. I will use them at some point.
For EWG hooks I use a side sweeping hook set, for round bend hooks, I use the upward swing. Power doesn't set the hook, speed does. I use a 2 handed hook set when I use the round bend hooks, it is kind of like popping a whip.
Like other said, Z Man floats the hook. Theirs is called ZinkerZ. All their baits that is made with ElaZtech will float. Strike King makes one also, it is the same worm as the ZMan worm.
