  1. For what it's worth, I have used the straight lexel/goop method, wet well, and transducer arm methods and I have to say by far the easiest is the lexel/goop. Just put a blob of it and press straight down, don't turn it on til it sets and viola. Done. The wet well method is a bit more difficult to pull off and produces the same results (any difference, if at all, wasn't noticeable by me). If you have more than one kayak I would choose this method so that you can swap transducers between them. It's not as "permanent" as the lexel/goop. The transducer arm method is BY FAR the most inconvenient. I have to use one to utilize my Side Imaging Humminbird. The hassle isn't installing it, the trouble is what it does to your kayak when you have it down. The extra drag the thing creates is very noticeable. A rudder will help compensate, but it's still an annoyance. At "higher" speed (relative to a kayak) it tends to start rising up out of the water. Well, "Just put it up" you say? those darn fish finder things don't work too well when you're stationary! go goop/lexel
  2. For me, the Coosa felt very tippy. The only thing it really has going for it (in terms of stability) is the width. The hull shape is normal. I must admit I got caught up with all the hoopla regarding stability and little design gimmicks. I bought the yak after watching Drew [guy in the coosa demo vids] walking around and jumping like it was nothing. As it turns out, if you look past it all, you see that he's actually not very tall, nor stout. Why do you see more Cooas for sale? IMO I think it's because once the honey moon phase ends the original buyers realize that it's a VERY technique specific kayak (rivers). They then end up selling them to buy more well rounded kayaks that can tackle rivers, lakes, ponds, and salt without sacrificing as much as you would with the Coosa. If you're looking for a river specific kayak, the Coosa has much to offer, scuppers, storage, maneuverability, very comfortable seating, and stability. If you're looking for a well rounded "do-it-all" type kayak, stay away from the Coosa. I for one am 100% happy I jumped off the Coosa bandwagon early.
  3. Standing on the new Ride 135 is a cinch. As for the Coosa, I sold mine off. Did not feel as comfortable standing in it as I did the Commander/Ride
  4. Try BioEdge if you don't like touching the scent, they come in stick form like chapsticks
  5. You must have been there on saturday the 30th during the KBF get together. The wind that day was BRUTAL on the kayaks. Many were first timers at BDR. I only managed to land a 17inch bass, losing another at the yak which would have been ~19. Black/blue jig!
  6. Sorry, just to be clear, on the james: Hickory you can keep, no limit. Herring you can keep, no limit. White perch you can keep, no limit American you can not keep
  7. Wooo! Come down with Josh! Correct, you won't catch many gizzard though and you can use cut hickory for cats...or whole ones if you like!
  8. They're easy to catch and you can catch ALOT of them. They fight hard and pull some nice acrobatics. Some people do like to eat them, and shad roe goes for $18/lb in my area ...
  9. The answer is 288. Final answer. Want proof? Google Wolfram Alpha Plug it into Mathematica, Matlab, C, C++, PHP, Perl, Ruby, Excel etc etc etc Without the proper parenthesis you have to use the order of operations which is done left to right. This is also why mathematicians developed parenthesis! no ambiguity!
  10. I hassled Brokenpaddle to sell me his $600! So ok, maybe not dirt cheap but 50% off retail works for me!
  11. Ok, Ok...lets put this into words we can all understand. Jordan Pier wants .ghoti. to make him 9 swimbaits. .ghoti. charges $48 for 2. The next day Jordan Pier calls .ghoti. and asks him to make three more. How much will .ghoti. charge Jordan Pier (minus shipping and handling)? Heres a hint. It's not 2
  12. I'm sure they all shoot a lot of "male birds" and of course we have to teach those "female dogs" a lesson or two.
  13. I'd have to say that those words are used in their proper context 1 out of 1000 times, the other 999 times....
  14. Nope, just grabbed the image from the visipole site, but I did just pick up another Commander 120 angler edition for DIRT cheap!
  15. There have been a few reports of boats hitting kayakers, I believe there was one incident earlier this year which resulted in one man dying. Anywhere that there could be a powerboat zooming along I try and put up my "Visipole" great for night fishing as well as making yourself seen. Unfortunately sometimes you can do all you can and you still will never be seen by someone who's not looking. It's just one of those inherent dangers of kayaking
  16. Both are the same. What you seem to be missing is that multiplication and division are weighted the same. Meaning you do what comes first in the equation not what comes first in the acronym. This also applies with addition and subtraction. It's more like... BEDMAS (Brackets, Exponents, Division or Multiplication, Addition or Subtraction) PEMDAS (Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication or Division, Addition or Subtraction)
  17. haha! Nice Pretty d**n fast!
  18. presented like you did in the title it's 288 once you've completed the parenthesis its just basically 48/2*12, since multiplication and division are both equal importance you go left to right and do whichever comes first, 48/2 = 24, 24*12=288 only way it would be 2 is if presented to you like 48/(2(9+3))
  19. One thing that annoys me about St. Croix spinning rods is that you tighten the reel to the rod from the bottom up. They way I cast has the screw loosening after a while.... I've learned to check every now and then but I've had the reel fall off mid cast when I first got the rod
  20. Yep, if it's raining leave the scuppers unplugged for rain water to drain. Flag pole...up to you, many kayakers don't in smaller bodies of fresh water, but larger bodies with power boaters or the salt many will.
  21. Like others have said, many PFDs are designed to turn an unconscious person over. Not everyone floats (high muscle mass) and in situations where there's flowing water like rivers or salt, it saves you from wasting energy keeping your head above the water.
  22. Even though the weather is crappy today, the shad are still biting, hit 12 in a hour. The 14th st launch is pretty simple. The current isn't too bad unless you hit the peak of low tide then the water is a bit swift. Biggest pain is walking the kayak/canoe down the stairs.
  23. I'm getting this also. Anyone else? Thoughts? It's when I try to access "http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/" EDIT: nevermind, figured it out myself...looks like a Chrome problem cause it seems to work in Firefox and IE.
  24. It was hot today...I caught about 30-40 on a chartreuse and white fly. The American Shad seem to be rebounding well since the crash, I caught about 15 of them and man, they put up a crazy fight on a 6wt. I caught more American shad today than I've ever caught previously.
