  1. Never gets old! YUM 4 incher TX rigged did the trick.
  2. Anybody have any info on Long Branch in Missouri near Macon? Bass numbers decent there??
  3. Hey guys/gals! My dad and I made it out for the first time this year here in Iowa and we didn't leave disappointed. Just jigging for a couple hours and I'd say it was a success.... This one was about 5 lb and caught one other just over 4 lb! Thanks!!
  4. My dad and I went out with just a couple jigs and that's it! It's not often I can say I bested him, but I did. Maybe it's a sign of things to come. I caught this 5+ .. and one other 4+.
  5. Does anyone have any cheap ideas for setting up a go pro mount? I want to put one on my dad's Tracker for our trips this year. Thanks!
  6. tell ya what if I ever buy a jerkbait that is more than $15, shoot me
  7. It's simply consumerism. That's all it is. It's new, it's exciting, but there's no hard evidence it's more effective than a buzzbait/popper/prop baits/etc. You can get some huge hits with all of em. People will just convince themselves that it is more effective because they use it more often as a result of the consumerism. Just try it for yourself. It just depends on the day. But don't get me wrong, it would be nice to have if you get a day where that's what the fish would rather go after.
  8. I'm a budget bass fisherman and the only thing I'm missing now is a separate small tackle box that holds the weights and hooks I'll need for worms/craws/jigs/etc. But.. I don't want to pay an arm and a leg. Can anyone recommend a brand/off-brand or another alternative?
  9. Five setups and I would be spoiled! I live off three and that's plenty for me to catch bass!
  10. Found a Cruxis 200 like new in the box for $35 on CL in my search for budget reels. 6.2:1 Would you recommend?? I know it's an older reel, but if it performs that's all I need!
  11. My dad and I are looking at taking one or two 2.5 day trips this spring/summer. We want to go north or south. What are some awesome lakes that aren't completely recreational? He has a 16.5' tracker so heavy winds wouldn't treat us too well either! I want to catch big largemouth, but also wouldn't be opposed to some chunky smallmouth either. Southern half of Minnesota or northern half of Missouri would be perfect! Thanks! Lately I've just been google mapping and have found some nice options that way too.
  12. My dad's family is from Monte and we always used to have family reunions out there. My dad would just show up everyone that was bank fishing and pull out 16-18 inchers all day long. I used to go to Hawthorn way back in the day with my dad (late 90s/early 2000s) and that lake was on fire. I'm sure it'll get back to that with time... but man. I remember him catching an enormous muskie on a crankbait. Ever since then, I have wanted to catch one. Hopefully this year!
  13. Diamond and Iowa are fun to camp too. Never been camping at Hawthorn. Most of these small lakes are within an hour of me. So awesome.
  14. 3 of the best bass lakes in Iowa right there. I'm not quite sure about south central, but eastern Iowa has some awesome lakes that aren't talked about all that much. Lake Iowa is great, Diamond Lake is pretty solid. Hawthorn Lake was just redone and is already producing awesome fish - 3 or 4 years and that place is gonna be top notch.
  15. First and foremost, Fish to Fish. Tournament angling (unless you do it occasionally to satisfy the need for competition and to be out there with your buddies) is a money pit.
  16. Need some help creating a logo! Hit me up!
  17. Hauled in this PB on the lake I caught the first bass of my life on. The trusty popper at about 7 in the morning. She was a beaut. If any of you all have Instagram accounts, feel free to follow me: @derekjonfishing Take care!
  18. This is awesome. A few careers I've never really heard of. I'm trying whatever I can to somehow have some sort of 'Aha' moment in terms of finding something I get satisfaction out of at work. I literally have no idea what I could tolerate doing 8 hours a day that doesn't require sitting down all the time. My patience is waning.
  19. As far as insurance goes, would you recommend a small agency as opposed to a state farm/nationwide/etc etc? Maybe this question doesn't make sense.. I'm not too familiar with insurance, but I do know people that have made great livings doing insurance sales. One thing I'm very interested in is freelance editing, because I like writing and analyzing this type of communication. But I'm having a hell of a time figuring out how to make money on the side with editing...
  20. I feel like Insurance is hit or miss, maybe you have to get lucky. When I first started communicating my desire to find rewarding opportunities, the first people to contact me were from insurance companies, and I expected this. I'm guessing it has high turnover? Or these recruiters/agents want you to take over small accounts and then get rid of you? I'm not sure. But it sort of turns me off how desperate some of them sound when pursuing potential new hires.
  21. Interesting insights everyone. I do also enjoy working on my feet, but it's a fine line between working on my feet and dealing with lots of bending/twisting because I'm worried about my back deteriorating. At the same time, I have a condition that is improved with movement so sitting all day is even worse for me than the regular person. I was called today about a job opening for warehouse manager/administrative hybid for a small solar energy company which I would be open to, especially when comparing it to sitting at this desk all day long doing misc tasks that other people don't have the time to take care of. The thing about this position is that I'm very passionate about sustainability and I know if I did my time in a warehouse position, I could learn more about the industry and move up in the company.
  22. That's awesome. I am an introvert as well, and pretty 'anti-establishment' to be honest. If I found something like that, something that I can work with my hands on, and not deal with a bunch of people, I think I could genuinely enjoy work.
  23. Hello all! I'm currently in the midst of a very weird time in life where I have no fishin clue what my calling is and am struggling to find something I can put up with career wise. I'm 25, smart (at least I'd like to think so), and am good with building relationships (but I'm not about to go selling crap I don't give a rip about). Hip arthritis and lower back issues keep me from going into skilled trades, which I would love to learn. But with the manual labor factor, I'm not sure it's good for me in the long run if I want to be able to move at 60. What do you all do for a living and is it enjoyable or does it give you satisfaction at the end of the day? I just want something that gives me time for my hobbies and understands personal well being away from work. But also something that doesn't make me dread going to work every day. Fire away.
  24. Don't think about it too much. IMO, structure has always been the most important. Sometimes they just aren't biting, but I rarely get skunked when focusing on sticks/rocks/old junk laying in the bank. Change up the retrieve speed too.
  25. They were hitting spinner bait and plastics/jigs all day long. I will politely decline on the second request. Not a big body of water.
