  2. My arsenal for 2017 is all set. It's taken a while and a lot of hunting for good prices but i'm all set with Dobyns Rods and Shimano Reels. 4 are JDM so far, but i'm looking to build.
  3. I'd say it could help to go somewhere in the middle, maybe a 6'8 or 6'10. Personally i throw buzzbaits and big walking baits on a different setup so a 6'8 seems to be perfect for poppers and smaller baits plus jerkbaits. The best i've found so far is a Dobyns Champion 685 CB for this technique.
  4. i believe the exsence is 8.5 oz
  5. Yeah for me the weight wasn't a huge issue since i was using it as a heavy duty reel. As for the whine, it's music to my ears.
  6. I have heard a lot of talk about DC reels mostly good and I wanted to try one for a while. Now I own an exsence DC and a Metanium DC. The essence seems to be more of a beefy reel internally so i use it for jigs. The metanium i use for fish head spins, small keitechs, and spinnerbaits. Both cast extremely well and perform flawlessly. I am wondering, have you guys had experience with DC reels? I am curious if anyone else has had any positive/negative experiences with them.
  7. Several for me. I love the older curado 200e7s for sure but there is something about the scorpion 200 that i love. I'm not sure if it differs spec wise from the newer curado 200s but it feels buttery smooth. Overall though, my metanium dc and excense dc have both performed flawlessly.
  8. That's the same for me. The stryker top seeks a bit less intense than the surf top but it seems plenty warm. Right now i wear under armor gloves in normal conditions which don't really keep my hands dry but help a bit with warmth. During long runs i use ski gloves over them.
  9. Coming from the midwest we have some 90 degree summers and some 0 degree winters so rain gear choice can be very important. I've been using frog togg pilots for a few months until i realized how they feel in very cold weather. They seemed to do alright with water and would be solid in the summer, but weren't cutting it in the winter. Decided to pull the trigger on a stormr stryker jacket and bib and can say that it seems like it will end up being worth it. Next on my list are some quality cold weather gloves. Anyone have any favorites for those freezing and wet pre spawn days? Anyone else have any experience with stormr gloves or other gear? Thanks!
  10. The dobyns fury 765 is very stout, as it is a flipping stick. The fury on the other hand has a very nice soft tip but plenty of backbone.
  11. I've been thinking of getting a similar combo myself, mainly for finesse jigs and small plastics. It would be a fantastic setup.
  12. I have used both. I had the 734 originally and it handled baits 3/8+ well but i ended up liking the extra flex of the 733. I'm now moving on to the dx 703 as it has the length i like for close quarters, but the 3 power seems the most versatile.
  13. Depends on the length you'd like, but the dobyns fury 735 is a fantastic rod for around that price range. It's a mag heavy but the tip on it is fantastic for what you would want.
  14. I'll mainly be using it for vision 110s, shadow rap deeps, and some duo realis 100-110 Yeah I was thinking of trying the 685 although that could be a bit too much rod which is why I was considering the 682
  15. Hey guys, I'm trying to step up my jerkbait game this fall and winter and I am looking at a few rods. The 684 and 685 CB dobyns champion, which seem to be made for Jerkbaits although I've heard they are a bit too whippy, and the 682. This is not a cranking rod so it would be a bit faster. Have any of you used these rods? Any advice would help. Thanks.
