  1. What did you find worked best for you?
  2. I'm getting really frustrated with using fluorocarbon leaders! I use 30lb-65lb main line and a 20lb fluro leader connected with an FG knot. When I first started tying the FG knot I would have them come lose 6 out of 10 times on a hook set. I have overcome that issue with practice tying the knot. However, I'm now getting routine line breaks of the leader material.... Very frustrating. I've been using Berkeley vanish fluro for my leader material and I think it may just be the cheap line causing the problem. It's got me so flustered I'm debating dropping the use of leaders all together. I hesitate though because I know I'm getting more hits while using the leader. What are you guys doing? Anyone else breaking 20lb leaders on your hook set?
  3. Yeah It came to a head last night at our meeting. I believe the problem removed itself. Things should be on the upswing going forward.
  4. That's one of those things each angler really needs to find out on their own. Many never do...
  5. Check the sticky thread...
  6. If everyone on the water/park/conservation area made an effort to take at least two pieces of trash out with them, and leave nothing new behind, every time we could quickly clean-up our resources.
  7. Great articles! I don't have too much experience in water as cold as he's describing, but I can vouch for the summertime pattern. In South Florida flowing water in summertime is key!
  8. I was in a park once and started picking up the trash off of the shoreline. My girlfriend and daughter followed suit and before I knew it every kid in the park was lending a hand. We filled 4 large contractor bags full of bottles and cans cleaning the entire park. Meanwhile all the parents sat and watched in disbelief. Ghandi once said "be the change you want to see in the world". Leading by example many times has wide reaching results.
  9. If you're using an add on blocking advertisements through chrome it hides the sign in link behind the BR logo too as the banner ad is removed. You either need to zoom way out to click it or turn the blocker off for the site.
  10. One more... When I was about 11 I went snook fishing with my dad near a spillway which was flowing rather quickly. When he got a blowup behind his topwater plug he totally quit paying attention to the current/trolling motor as he got ready to set the hook. Needless to say the boat drifted swiftly into piling and he toppled out and broke his rod. As he was struggling to get back in the boat, like a good son, I grabbed the broken rod from him and landed the fish. It never occurred to me why he would be so upset at me when he got back in the boat. It was a good catch!
  11. Had an owl pick up my Super Spook Jr. 3 times one day. He was convened it was edible. I'm glad the owls feet didn't have any soft tissue to hook. Also had a sparrow fly right into my line on a cast. (Worst Birds Nest Ever)
  12. Certainly worth it the buy. Perry's writing style is entertaining while also very informative.
  13. I'd say it's abandoned. It's an active choice to turn your back on integrity.
  14. We played with that Idea, unfortunately a large proportion of our members would be no-go on Sundays due to the aforementioned religious obligations.
  15. I like that Idea! Low turnout/payout was an issue for us last year. We had a few weekends with only 5 boats...
  16. Anyone have a good method for curbing in-fighting and backhanded politics in a small bass club? We have roughly 12-15 boaters, and if things continue the way they are our club may have to disband. Most recent dispute is around scheduling. A small cohort of our members have determined that they would like to fish a different tour for a few months, but the tournaments conflict with our clubs traditional schedule. The few guys who are hell bent on fishing this other tour have been trying to recruit some of our other members to their cause on the sly and force an issue where there will be very few boats which show up to our tournaments. We discussed shifting our schedule to accommodate, but that opened a can of worms and the majority of the club protested the idea (Perhaps due to the back door nature of the initial politics). Being recently voluntold into the President position I feel obligated to get ahead of this and resolve the conflict before it causes more in-fighting. Any Advice?
  17. I watch my line. I've learned if it moves I catch em. If it doesn't I switch spots till it does.
  18. 2-3 Lbs. You should teach her how to hold the next one properly though.
  19. Sorry for you loss. I'm not sure these are worthy of the context; but my grandfather had a few sayings that always made me smile. They still do every time I think of him. God doesn't remove from a mans life the days he spends fishing The best time to fish; is when you get a chance.
  20. @Ridi620; if you haven't already read my post about hiring a guide. It may help make it a more pleasant trip.
  21. Being that the water is up there should be plenty of water in Pelican Bay and you should be able to get to the burnt bridges/cornfields areas and look for the big girls. https://www.google.com/maps/@26.7602924,-80.7294038,4480m/data=!3m1!1e3?hl=en If you're not looking to run too far the Grassy flats in coot bay have been known to harbor good numbers of fish. But watch the wind, If it has been coming out of the north at all this area tends to muddy up. https://www.google.com/maps/@26.7692986,-80.906472,3169m/data=!3m1!1e3?hl=en Mayaka Cut (AKA Uncle Joe's Cut), Is also a productive area that seems to always hold fish. Look for the the lay downs, and fish the at both openings. https://www.google.com/maps/@26.8091237,-80.957932,3173m/data=!3m1!1e3?hl=en And here's a few more spots you may try if all else fails. https://www.google.com/maps/@26.7401785,-80.8321014,15088m/data=!3m1!1e3?hl=en
  22. In Florida we really only have two seasons. The spawn, and the summer. A few fish can be found on beds most of the year with the largest spawning movements occurring between mid February and early April. The most drastic temperature swings occur in January-February with stabilization in the following months. In my experience stable to warming conditions trigger the spawn more than the season (length of day), or an exact temp.
  23. Fishing is allowed almost everywhere over there. In the image below I have highlighted a few likely areas. Many of which I have personally done well in. Some you will need to park on the side of the road and tromp through some Australian Pines to get to. Others are easily accessible. Make sure your valuables are hidden and your doors locked when not near your vehicle. I marked Roland's Marina with the Blue and red dot to help set your bearings. Good luck to you! https://www.google.com/maps/@26.7533645,-80.947138,4396m/data=!3m1!1e3
