  1. A handle change on these is possible but you will loose the clicking adjustment unless you upgrade the dragstar as well.
  2. This discussion usually does not end well. Anyway, RH using RH reel and swithching hands after cast, it's the way I learned.
  3. Might take a look at the Daiwa SV103, it would make a good reel on a larger rod.
  4. Now I get it, the top is bent back. The angle of the picture kind of make it look like the top of the blade is gone. You have a lot of angle on that bend. How does it effect the action?
  5. The Tatula and Tatula Type R both use Daiwa's Magforce Z braking system. The Type R spool is just a hair lighter. Just wanted the O.P. to have correct info.
  6. Gander Mountain brand FC, made by Sunline comes in 400 yd. spools and costs 19.99.
  7. For legal reasons most if not all of the suppliers no longer offer the open eye style head.
  8. Many of the backlashes with the SX occur at the beginning of the cast. The reel has magnetic brakes that are better controlling the spool at the end of the cast. If you whip the rod the spool speed at the beginning of the cast will be very high and little braking to help control it. Hope this makes sense.
  9. LOL, when I seen it my first thought was that it looked like a "dog tag" military style.
  10. If the handle did not spin backwards when this happened, the only way that I know of that would be possible for the spool to spin fast enough to create a large backlash is if the spool pin came disengaged from the pinion gear. If this is what happened I would look at weak clutch/yoke springs.
  11. That's an interesting looking blade, care to share any info about it?
  12. A couple of squarebill crankbaits would be on my list if I did not already have them.
  13. Boss makes some nice Arkies in a couple of varieties. There website is www.fishingskirts.com
  14. I own a few of each, the old Avid is a good rod, they just always feel tip heavy in my opinion. The LTB in my hands is crisper and just has an overall better feel to it than the Avid. The Extreme is a nice rod also, but I don't feel like there is a night and day difference between it and the LTB. I have not used the new Avid X model but if it were my money I would spend it on the LTB, for 40 dollars more I feel like it is well worth it.
  15. I don't disagree with what you have said. I will add this, do you think it would be better to have the industry comply with a rigid set of standards that may eliminate some of the individualism and creativeness, or, develop a new method of rating rods that would better describe how each rod performs to a given set of standards.
  16. I would guess it will be a good reel, the Tatula has been a solid reel aside from the grooving on the t-wing, which obviously wont be an issue with the new Fuego. Especially at the price you will be able to pick one up for.
  17. Have you ever had the opportunity to use the original Daiwa Fuego? It was a magnesium reel based on one of Daiwa's most successful platforms ever, the TDZ. It is much the same as Daiwa also calling the Aus version of the Tatula the Sol. Both of the original reels deserve better, IMHO.
  18. Could be a few things, many Daiwa fans don't feel like this reel is worthy of the name Fuego. Many others just don't care for the size and form factor of the Tatula based reels.
  19. BB, along with what Jrob78 posted is that manufacturers use different materials, carbon fiber, scrim materials, resin compounds to build their rods, this makes it nearly impossible to develop and industry standard, about the best you can hope for is that rods built by the same manufacturer are consistant.
  20. There are a lot of really nice rods available if you have 250 dollars to spend. One rod will not suit everyone, make sure you take your time, handle a lot of rods and get the one that suits you. Rods in this price range are the ones that you will have for a while if you make a good choice.
  21. Mine currently sits on a Falcon Cara Headturner. I have tried it on an NRX 853 and Dobyns 734 but I like the Cara the best.
  22. Many of the same already mentioned as well as the Super Spook Jr. (Bone White for the win)
  23. If you pull the handle side plate and take a picture then post it, it will make it easier to help.
  24. It may be more helpful if you look at IPT instead of gear ratio.
