  1. Are you taking your own boat? Fishing the Minnesota side out of Baudette, you likely won’t catch too many small mouth. Will be 95% walleye and some northern. You might find a stray perch, crappie, and smaller. If you go up to the NW angle you will be in multi-species paradise. Going up to the NW angle also gives you the advantage of islands to break up the wind. Fishing out of Baudette, if you get a strong NW wind for a couple days you will be limited to fishing the river. Never done that in the summer, but most of the fish are out in the lake during the summer. As far as resorts, I have heard mostly good things about all of them. We stayed at Ships Wheel one year, and enjoyed it.
  2. I figured as much. Thanks! I agree with this, a lot of the features of the current Stella have been implemented on the Twin Power. I have one of these on order from the local bait shop. Should be coming in fairly soon. Excited to check it out. Something still tells me I should try a Stella. Just want to want to see if they put any new features on it. I know the twin power and Vanquish are very different reels but if the new twin power is anything like the vanquish I have I will be very pleased.
  3. I have the daiwa “the one” and an 872S. Completely different rods if you ask me. The Daiwa has a slower action as the MRX is pretty fast. I’d say they handle similar weight ranges with the daiwa handling heavier stuff better. Sensitivity wise, the daiwa is very good but if I had to choose I would say the NRX is slightly better. I prefer handling the Daiwa, the handle is a little smaller and I have smaller hands. Not sure it would be beneficial to have the 852S and the 872s unless you really like the 852S.
  4. Hopefully all you die hard Shimano fans can shed some light for me. I am wanting to pick up a Stella, but the new ones are about 4 years old. I would rather wait until a new one comes out, however I have not not been staying up on release dates. Does anyone think we will see a new one any time soon, end of 2025, early 2026? I’m not in a hurry. Last time I did this, I purchased a Certate and they released a new like months after I received it!
  5. I’m actually a spinning rod guy, so 2 bait casters is enough for me. I think you could get by with 5 rods. 822, 872, and the 842. Then the two casting rods you have currently. Of course if you want another one that’s a different conversation cause I’m always trying new stuff. The 872 and 822 have similar lure ratings but I don’t think they fish the same at all. 872 handles heavier stuff way better imo. or add the 852c if you like prefer a casting rod for some techniques. and yeah, the vanquish is a sweet reel! I have mine on 6’10” MLFX Legend Elite.
  6. If you’re limiting yourself to 5-6 rods, I wouldn’t get the 821 and 822. 852S and 872s are going to be very similar. sounds like most of these rods are spinning, do you typically fish spinning over casting rods?
  7. When I was younger I always read about the scorpion and dreamed about getting one. I never did buy one. I hope it lives up to the expectations for you! Also crazy you found a NIB. That color is awesome. I am waiting on my reel to be off of back order. A Shimano Twin Power 2500.
  8. Too much drag? Can you elaborate? If the sustain fits everything else you are looking for just get the sustain. I’ve never heard a complaint of too much drag, but I guess that’s why I am asking. I think the new twin power is a great teal and I’d say is worth the extra cost over the sustain. Especially with the slow oscillating spool, making line lay fantastic.
  9. Very simplistic approach here, but don’t over complicate things. 3000 has the T handle, 2500 doesn’t. Whichever handle you prefer get, go with that sized real. of course there are little nuances to each size but you’d be hard pressed to tell the difference unless you are real hardcore. Either one will work. You don’t need more drag capacity for bass fishing, I can guarantee that. Casting distance is maybe marginally noticeable.
  10. Yeah they would be correct. I tend to look more at balancing, and I know my 872S balances better with ~7 oz reel. At least that’s what I prefer. The twin power will also get closer to Stella performance wise. regarding the 2500 vs 3000, another thing to keep in mind is the 3000 will have a T handle and the 2500 will have an I handle, at least I think that’s what it is called. Some people prefer that, some people hate, and some wouldn’t even notice the difference.
  11. To Tom’s point the stradic (not Ci4 which is longer made) is a pretty heavy reel. I think too heavy for something like an NRX. But a Vanford might also be too light, which is why I recommended the twin power. nrx will be good for anything bottom contact up to like 1/4 plus plastic or weightless stuff as well.
  12. 2500 or 3000 twin power. I like something a little heavier than a vanford for that rod. Could also go certate from daiwa.
  13. That’s great Gim. Birds are slowly making a comeback in Iowa. Which we need. 9/9 is fantastic. I’m horrible at shooting birds.
  14. Heat from wood in a house is almost addicting. Had it when I was growing up. So awesome.
  15. I have eye balled this rod in the past, but never got my hands on it. Interesting build with that tip. Seems like a rod that would be right up my alley.
